Traveling Utah by Overland Truck Camper!! The Amazing Moki Dugway and the Moon House Ruins.
Next on our southwest USA tour we visit Cedar Mesa/ Bears Ears National Monument and take and amazing hike to the Moon House ruins. After a night at Goosenecks Sate Park we climb the Moki Dugway.
Permit in hand, we take our truck camper down the windy, dusty and bumpy back road to the Moonhouse ruin trail.
After a somewhat sketchy hike across the steep red rock valley we arrive at our goal. The Moonhouse ruins don't disappoint as we explore the site and marvel at the amazing pictographs.
We cap off the day by boondock camping off the roadway with a beautiful view of the iconic bears ears and the juniper forest. It doesn't get much better while out on the road.

    I was up there in the same area about 3 years ago around Novemberish. I stayed over in some tiny home cabin like places in Leadville right by the main strip. To your point regarding your truck and the roads over in the marble crystal area, I remember seeing signs that advised beyond a certain point to only use a short and narrow wheel base 4wd. I had/have a 2 door jeep and it was difficult for me. I think I had seen private property signs in crystal and some of the old crystal cabins had residents there (I am sure seasonal only).

    Don't know much about machining, but common practice is to step the hole up. Use progresively larger bits. Each run is much easier and using a small bit to start helps accurately center the hole. Takes more time overall, but won't burn your drill and easier on the arm.

    • @ventureoutthere
      @ventureoutthere Před 3 měsíci

      I tried that and unfortunately it didn’t work out well for me. The drill bits are a hardened material that is very brittle and if the bit grabs at all they snap. Torklift also recommends not doing this. Maybe if you had a large range of hardened bits and could do it on a bench drill press it would work out. That is my experience at least. I understand that they make a version that clamps into place now. You only have to drill a dimple and not a full hole.

    The decal removed on the front shows an unfaded gelcoat under so there's a faint impression of the removed decal. Did this fade with time to match the area outside of the decal?

    • @ventureoutthere
      @ventureoutthere Před 10 měsíci

      The front was the worst and showed a fair amount of "ghosting." It polishes out fairly well, but the surrounding area does chalk up quicker and it reappears. I has gotten somewhat better over time, but is still visible if I haven't polished the area for awhile.

Pretty cool item that I didn’t know were available! Btw, where in Colorado do you live? I lived in Westminster (I-25 North & Hwy 36) just north of Denver after I got out of the Air Force in 1972. Ten years later after going into trucking Denver didn’t even look the same as when I was living there. Sad! I truly LOVED living in Colorado back in the 70s, but, after 38 years in trucking I’ve seen it become like most of the states in our country now…especially towns like Denver and where I lived in Westminster. My 2 cents: In my opinion the solution is not to go 'direct' on to the battery at all. On your ground side that large cable should be going to the block and or chassis at another point, so any ground side connections should be routed to that connection point and a distribution block used to allow multiple large connections. Same on the positive side, a distribution block with fuses should have all of your accessories going to it to provide individual appropriate fuses, all in a central location that then connects to your battery positive lead. Of course all of this must use amp appropriate cable and connection sizes. I get that using direct to the battery is common, and thus parts are made to assists that. But that really stems from the desire to have the connections visually simple to keep things easier to understand. It's not the best way, merely the simplest. Better load handling and organization of your accessory connections and fusing can be had by adding a sort of 'sub' fuse and distribution box (something like an electrical sub panel in house wiring) to handle the power requirements.
