- How many times have you heard atheists say that they do not believe in God because they believe in the Big Bang theory? Somewhere in that reasoning are unchallenged assumptions about the matter, or material, that makes up the universe. Is matter eternal like some suppose? Can it produce intelligence? In this mock debate between Dr. Sproul and Dr. John Gerstner, they look at the question, “Is There a God?”

What most atheists don’t appreciate about cosmological classical apologetics, is that it does not posit God as a hypothesis for the creation of the universe.. but rather deductively builds up the properties of this first cause, where it’s properties are built up to the point that merits the term “God”. God is not merely submitted as an explanation, but is discovered in the inquiry.
This is how Jesus built His ministry. He never outright claimed to be God, He just acted in such a way that it would draw people to the obvious conclusion.
Wow! I started listening to Sproul in 1995, but I've never seen or heard John Gerstner. Now I see that all these years R.C. Sproul was emmulating his mentor. Immitation is the sincerist form of flattery.
I put a baptism lecture on while I was doing a job at home and for the first few minutes, I was like "wait, I didn't not click on R.C. Sproul." Went back to my phone and it's this John Gerstner guy. I bet myself 100 bucks he taught Sproul and I just found this out to be correct. Everything about their speech is identical!
Yikes! Can you imagine unknowingly debating one of these two men about ANYTHING?

I Love you Fellows and seeing you passed on RC Sproul to be with God in person through Christ on the good side of the river or gulf do to the One who paid in full for our sin debt owed unto the FATHER by the one who not only died for our error and sin but rose according to the Holy Scriptures and for our justification, I find it in me by him of time past and present and to come by saying hello and believe you can now hear me according to Faith and I believe for it is true and that I can't wait to see also my creator who shall in a time to come and yet is already here hello my Lord and brother RC for to be absent from the body said Paul mine APOSTLE is to be present with the Lord and I believe your with him . This is a good video in every way I could describe something as Good
I love these debates I listen to these many times over and over. I guess in the end it's up to finding out the truth when it's all over and done with one side will be right and the other side wrong. Either there is a God or there isn't. I would never use the so called law I d causality or the first cause in an argument because, if we postulate that there is no God, then obviously for the universe to exist now then it had to have always existed in some form or another as it cannot be it's own cause.

The Big Bang moved into motion that which was not in motion. In order for that to happen, a cause that was unchanged prior to The Big Bang catalyzed that motion. That Unchanged Cause is GOD.

It’s troubling to see folks idolizing RC. He did teach most things very well. But he was a man. He loved his new Mercedes. He was less than nice to some like Van Til and Bahnsen who had better methods of apology. Yet people put him on a pedestal.
By the way, this is nothing more than a battle of intellect. Not everyone has this education. The starting point always has to be God. You cannot prove anything apart from God.

God came as Jesus in the flesh to go and pay our sin debt on the cross, we deserve hell we deserve to take our punishment but in His great love and mercy He took our punishment and sins to the cross. He died and paid for our sin debt in full ( John 19:30) then God the Father rose Jesus on the third day with glory and power and triumph and He conquered hell, sin, death, satan, the world. Jesus broke down the wall that separated us from Him so we can come to Him and be saved and have a relationship with Him. believe and repent of your sins and God will forgive and cleanse you and make you born again by His Holy Spirit ( John 3). today is the day of salvation, you don't know what day or hour or minute or even the second you'll die. Heaven is eternal and hell is eternal as well. Prove God real? Actually, that is the one sure thing that you cannot do! And why do you quote from the Gospel of John when it is not an eyewitness account, the actual author of the writings being unknown?
There is no credible proof of any god anywhere at any time.
What proof would be good enough for you??
Do you want him to spell out your name in the stars? You wouldn't look, the stars proclaim his majesty every day.
Do you want him to leave his intelligent signature on every cell, every atom in existence? Would you then admit that he must've created the world?
What if he did something more subtle, like come down to earth, perform miracles, raise others and himself from the dead to prove his power?

@@RocketRodCub Well, there certainly are things like reason, morale, ethics. These are man-made rules, and yes, humans have the opportunity to have or make up or even change their scale of what might be ethically okay and what not.
But that doesn't make that fact any less important or valuable.

@@RocketRodCub The source and origin of evil tends to start with logical absolutes. Virtue ethics is one such example. And then it gets into subjective and experiential territory which no human being is exempt from. This goes for both atheists and theists. Only it's rare for theists to admit that their idea of "evil" comes from any social experience because they'll point to a deity (which is the product of social rituals and traditions, etc.). From the theist standpoint it would beg the question of what part of our actions and beliefs Isn't social? It's a murky area.
That said, the Christian's biggest trick, is convincing people that the devil's biggest trick is to convince people he doesn't exist (which is kind of virtuous for someone THAT narcissistic and evil tbh, even if it's for a few minutes).
