Basically the point is, black people should absolutely not have to continuously be expected to create the space that is still necessary for racism to be dismantled. It's yet another form of oppression. It's not their responsibility to end racism when they're not the ones who started it.

I get your point. But also, it's good for black people to plant the seed into a racist's mind about how they feel. At the end, its the racist choice on which path they take.

Its good to have dialog and get someone to see a different perspective, but she's saying he's not gonna really learn from the conversation right then and there and more importantly being the target of racism and trying to reason with the racist perspective is exhausting. She doesn't feel minorities are obligated to have to be the one to teach him he's racist because we're not the one empowering him to feel like its okay. It's his comfort with being a white man and the people who validate that. So white people who benefit in the same capacity every day should be the ones to have that conversation with him. As the minority, we're busy dealing with the repercussions of said privilege. We've been trying to have these conversations for years.

I agree with Amanda. He realised he was alone, not that he was wrong.
And from personal experience, it’s very difficult and sometimes impossible to make a racist person question racism.
I recently had a conversation with two so called friends who I realised were racist. After they said a very racist thing about black people in front of me, I tried to make them realise that what they said was fucked up and not right. They never really got it. It’s so complex. The fact that I’m black, that they truly appreciated me as a friend, but were still racist shows how complex racism is. To me it’s not rational and when a person is not being rational it’s really hard to make them see reality as it really is.
I think it will take a lot of personal experience and work for those two girls to realise how dumb they were for saying what they said.
And this is funny how a few weeks back, I saw this segment and didn’t agree with Amanda. I really thought it was my job to educate racist people. But after this experience, I’m with Amanda, AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!

There are tutorial videos on how to do everything get fit, make up, learn etc. do the work and do less separating from reality. 9to 5 is 8 out of. 24 hrs. This is a great discussion! I was just discussing with others today about how much racism is both religious and political. Because people in the klan are actually taught that they are from the lineage of Jesus, and that it is their right to rule over everyone as they see fit and it is validated biblically. So they actually believe that when you tell them they are being racist that they are given the ability to rule over everyone else by God. That’s what’s very troubling as well. At least to me it’s troubling.

    • @Anana315
      @Anana315 Před 3 lety +1

Rasheda Porter Good question! I thought of that too. And I have a very long answer to that 😄
So yes I’m a Christian. But I don’t think Christianism is the problem. It’s the people who wrongly used religion as a way to confirm their racist beliefs.
And even if I’m a Christian I have a very particular way to look at religion and the different beliefs. I do really believe that whatever the religion, we all believe in a bigger power. Even if we represent it differently, that it manifests differently it is the same and only power. And to me religions are just different ways to express our faith, our love for the same God. If that makes sense... and when we look at every religions, they’re very different but so similar at the same time.
Maybe it’s a defence mechanism that helps me make peace with knowing that if colonisation didn’t happen, my faith would’ve been different. So it helps to know that even if it was, it would’ve been the same God, just another religion.
Or maybe it helps me be at peace with myself knowing that my religion participated in the suffering of my ancestors. Maybe, I don’t know.
But I know that it’s the only answer I have when I ask myself “if there are multiple religions, than only one can be right, what if we (christians) are wrong”. So I like to believe that we’re all right. And if that’s the case, than whether I still practiced Christianism or my ancestors’ religion, it doesn’t really matter at the end. Christianism is just the way I see God, the way I want to worship him, and the way it’s right for me to worship him.
I hope it all makes sense. I’m still figuring all of this out. Still trying to get closer to God so... yeah.
I hope nobody take offense to what I said. I’m still on a journey to strengthen my faith, and that’s what helps me make sense of all this.

I don’t think Amanda looks young because she doesn’t drink. Tamara and Jeannie look really young for their age but they drink alcohol. Especially Tamara who drinks a lot of wine. I think most of the time it’s genetics.
Edit : I know alcohol really does accelerate aging but sometimes when people have it in their genes, it seems like it doesn’t really affect them that much. Just like some people who have a very unhealthy diet but still have beautiful skin and hair

I'm with Amanda. I don't think people are stupid. He knows what he blurted out, he knows it has to be offensive to at least some people. Even if he was serious, why couldn't the man just not be in Mexico? What does he have to stay in Mexico for? But saying racism is wrong and telling the man this is where the issue of racist kids comes from shuts it down and says we will not tolerate it. Then, to avoid being shut down again in public like that, he won't do it again. He will have seen the consequences and felt the embarrassment. I feel like asking the man to speak about his view more only enables it and will make him think it's OK to think the way he does. I respect Amanda a lot and I always find myself awed by her words and views. Love her.

I must say I do think the amount of money that these celebrities have also helps them in hiring private chefs and having the best workout facilities available etc of course that is going to help. So I don't know why people are surprised. I suppose you could say they are more just impressed.

So like here’s my philosophy right... I believe the saying “ you look good for your age “ despite it being a compliment , I actually feel like it can come off like underhanded or backhanded because it comes off as if the person giving the compliment expects for the average 50 something year old to like actually age in their face... the same with women who have multiple children and have these bomb summer bodies some people say ‘ you look good for a woman that has 3 kids “ like you’re expecting for the, to let themselves go... so I think it’s a nice thing to say it’s just the extra verbiage that can throw certain people off

Tamera’s comment on how the room reacted to the racist man’s response; she said that she liked how the white people were not agreeing with him. By saying that, you are implying that you expect white people to be racist. That room was filled with people of many different races who didn’t agree. Thats the race you picked out to be racist? Anyone can be racist. It is a stereotype that you are feeding into when you say things like that. On another hand, You also said that there are stereotypes on Hispanics and black people... I’m sorry but this conversation was discussing Hispanics. Where was there racism in this situation to black people? There is racism against EVERY race on this earth. It’s unfortunate but it’s true. Not just black people experience racism. Every race does! Asian, middle-eastern, American Indian, etc. And yes even white! That is a stereotype in itself, that “white people do not have stereotypes.” They do! Every race does!
