      +Luke Darga I'm not all for the new turbo era, but it is likely that this record will fall this weekend (weather permitting), as the turbo engines have an advantage at higher altitudes compared no n/a engines.

    • @MarcSob22
      @MarcSob22 Před 8 lety +21

      +Campbell Fleming actually if it falls, it is because the asphalt Interlagos improved two seconds this year, after the new reform, since at the time of the V10 cars were still far stronger than those of today, just the fact of being turbo not compensate the huge difference of power in 2004 amounted to some house of 1000hp, nowadays fail to 700hp.

      +Campbell Fleming doubt it. Last year the turbo engines were out and we didn't get any record. I know this year's cars are slightly faster, but I don't think it'll be enough. Plus the cars today don't have refuelling so only a few drivers will go for a fastest lap, since they might be saving fuel or tyres.

    I hate reading comments from disillusioned 'fans' who think this era was so hard (especially compared to this year)... but they had traction control, ABS, launch control and other driving aids... they might as well have used a virtual racing line like the video games. The current era deserves a lot more respect and appreciation for how difficult the cars are to drive.

    • @EduXicao
      @EduXicao Před 8 lety

      +Forgotten Mustard This was in Race. The pole lap that year was in bumpier asphault, they could have done much better in 2014. One year after, you see how degradated the track is, despite track was green, the cars have improved engines and tires compared to 2014. Pole, 1.11.2. Ahh... 2004 was without DRS. F1 cars in 2000 years wasn't faster because the V10, but the downforce was much higher and didn't loose as we see today when same cars are having to slow down when they are one behind the other. If cars of 2004 had slick tires, we would have seen the better battles in F1 in the whole history, but Bernie was so much concerned about safety, and he was right that time. Maybe now F1 in general has much more knowledge and know-how than that time plus safer oriented track layouts. I think 2017 we will see F1 as we have never seen, even without V10. I hope only the financial issues not be a problem for the teams and track owners and FOM and FIA be concerned about his consumers, not the old ones, but who hadn't connected and "passioned" to them yet.

    You can see that the front wing is flexing to give less drag on the straits.
    On current cars it is defenitely a disqualification.

      Merc has hit about 1000 bhp in quali trim. The bigger part of the speed were the downforce and tires.. these cars had better tires by far and much more downforce.

    • @LimburgGaming
      @LimburgGaming Před 7 lety +3

      Actually, back then the tires were worse than theyre now. The slick has a much bigger surface that touches the actual track, so if we would put those tires on the 2004 cars, those cars would maybe go half a second faster per lap because of even more mechanical grip

    Monster lap by Montoya , that BMW was quick, pity it wasnt reliable, wouldve loved to have seen Montoya be an F1 World Champion.
    In the right car could've easily happened for him.
    Quick, talented, brave, driver.

    I love the V10, the late 90's early 2000's are my favorite F1 seasons, but I rather see F1 with the current V6 Hybrid than a V10 with Traction Control.
