- For my mum's 60th birthday, I took a 2 week trip to Vietnam with my family. This is what happened.

I like how Joey's travel blog rarely puts music in the background, it makes the video feel more natural and actual experience of his travel.
yup true, great job Luke these vlogs are nicely edited
Yep! Obnoxiously adding really loud, shoehorned-in music ruins quite a few travel vloggers' content.
Agreed, it's just real rather than forced liek a lot of other do. Some music is fine for transitions but talking etc it feels good
even though i do enjoy good b-rolls but there are times where it just gets too much
So true! Also, his family seem so sweet and it makes me feel like I'm on vacation with people close to me. To think about just a glimpse of what soldiers on both sides of the war went through just to survive.. I cant even imagine. ❤ Thanks for sharing, Joey!
Now I get all the stories about his dad, he's chill af
He has a good video of him interviewing/chatting with his dad on the channel that is worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
I think Joey's dad would be a great dude to have a pile of beer with! Lol
As a Vietnamese fan, i'm glad Joey was enjoying the traveling experience in Vietnam. Btw, just a small correction only, Hanoi is Vietnam's Capital city, while Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam's major economic center, which is why most people mistook HCMC for the capital.
Hehe anyway, thank you for showing us your trip. Hope someday you will be back in Vietnam for more experience. I would recommend trying Vietnamese authentic street foods, they are delicious!
he haven's tried bún chả and phở too, that is so sad
I want him to try Bun dau mam tom now, it hits hard.
@@Phucsle383Yes 😢
its a mistake he made that we can gladly accept 🤌🏻
Seems like it's always the way, I've probably been to more places in Japan than I have in Australia where I live, and I only went to Japan for 2 weeks.
as a vietnamese, it's crazy to see joey see almost all of vietnam while i haven't seen even 1/10th of it
wished i could've met joey but i never go out like a real trash taste listener so it was never possible for me to meet him
Same. I born in Vietnam and don't know half of it culture
You may feel sad, but funnily enough thats the majority of people on earth. People are less prone to visit places that are in a hand reach already and basically know nothing about their own city that would otherwise interest tourists.
I still wish to visit the cages of vietnam once more though, hardly remember them, I was 2 years old last time
It is expected for most of us when the avarage salary is ... Not great and you can't just take many days off to do your thing
is it expensive to travel vietnam as a local? @@constellation_kita
@@HelloOnepiece For me and supposedly many Vietnamese ( I myself am one ) we are restrained from doing so due to the lack of money or time or both. For a somewhat middle class family I'm in we still get to travel plenty but usually never had enough time to fully immerse ourselves in the culture. Still nice seeing tourists enjoying Vietnamese like Joey here :D`
That guy with the table across from you guys' at the cafe was a real MVP. You can see him motioning and talking to the cafe staff concerned you guys weren't mixing your egg coffees before drinking it which was why the staff came up to you and told you what you were supposed to do.
Your mom was turning 60 and yall still climbed like 3 different mountains on her birthday vacation? That is impressive. It's nice that she's able to go out and see these beautiful locations in person.
East Asians.
A family friend from Taiwan are 95-91 years old couple, they still travel to Japan by themselves, booking their own ticket and planning their own itinerary. In Tokyo, I met 80-years old oba-san, climbing 10 metre subway stairs by herself while carrying groceries.
Goals, Imma grind at the gym so Ill be able to do stuff like this at 60
@@ntrg3248 or just get sporty hobbies, like hiking/camping/cycling/rock climbing that will keep you young and vital ^^ im 38 now and i got the feeling im doing it right, 400miles bicycle trip sounds like a vacation for me ^^
Such a japanese moment
most 60 year olds are still able to do that. it's not like she is 80
Rare Vietnamese viewer here! Thank you so much for visiting Vietnam! Our country is very beautiful and the culture and food is top notch! I really enjoy your videos. Love from Vietnam ❤
Hey man. We're not that rare around here
Same here xD
chắc ko rare tới dị đâu bro
leave a comment so you know that we're not that rare :_)
also vietnamese here 🫶
Bro you have the chillest and coolest parents. You are soo lucky. Cherish all the time you spend with them.
Somehow, it feels oddly refreshing to see Joey or the boys in another country other than Japan 😂 Don't mind more travel vlogs!
i also find it refreshing compared to another "heres something shitty some mangaka did" or "something shitty done to a mangaka" or "some dumb law/whatever done by the japanese government". I dont dislike that kind of info, but too much bad news...well, feels bad, y'know? Not that im saying thats all he does. It isnt. Its just depressing sometimes. Its why following news in America is so tedious.
@@shino4242 I do find that kinda weird actually, how common Joey makes the videos you're talking about. Because I saw his stuff on Trash Taste first, where he's always happy and joking around. Then a lot of the stuff on his own channel is all doom and gloom.
@@PerfectSense77 Doom and gloom videos tend to get more views, it's human nature to be attracted to negative news because we remember it more vividly compared to good news. Kind of wish Joey had a rule that for every "bad news" video he makes he HAS to make a "good news" video. Would keep things more balanced that way.
I lived in Vietnam for 8 years and watching this gave me nostalgia thank you Joey
Is it hard for an non Vietbamese-Speaker to start living there and learning the language?
@@lopton1Seems there's a decent amount of English spoken if you live in a touristy area, so you probably could get by without a full command of the language, so long as you don't live in a remote area.
@@lopton1 Shouldn't be too hard as long as you start living at the cites... but still recommend to learn some common lines if you want to stay for a long time.
You welcome.
@@lopton1 It's not hard living in the country without knowing any Vietnamese but it's definitely hard to learn the language
Joey learned fast: In most of Southeast Asia, the higher up you go, the less humid it becomes (with some exceptions for coastal areas, or anywhere near large bodies of water); this is usually why people escape the hot weather by either going up the hills, or vacationing by the ocean. Japan is further up above the equator, and thus would usually be cooler and drier.
Joey and his family hit all the great spots and took joy not only in the scenery and the food, but also getting to know the people they met in their travels. I think that makes for a perfect tourist experience.
Vietnam looks absolutely beautiful.
BTW, a good way to remember the difference between stalactites and stalagmites is stalactites have to hold tight to the ceiling or they'll fall, and if a stalagmite grows tall enough it might reach the ceiling.
Or just say StalagTite = (From the) Top, StalagMite = Mound (on the Ground)
@@Gilthwixt1 that wouldn't help me, but if it helps you or anyone else, sure. Whichever way helps. 😊
I always remember this trick and also C for ceiling (stalactite) and g for ground (Stalagmite)
End with tittis hangs like tittis. That's how i remember it 😂
But in German the pronouncing is more similar i guess😅
Many people mistake HCM city as the capital, but it’s actually Hanoi
It seems like the tropical weather gives you a hard time traveling, but I’m glad that you are able to explore some beautiful sites in Vietnam ❤️
@@D3g3n24 with the power of anime 😂😂😂
We Black Lagoon?
Bro wrote the title like he spent 15 days in prison😭😭
I mean to be fair... 😂
fr fr!! Lmaooo
I mean...
It is blazing hot there so I mean…..
as a vietnamese, i mean...
I live in Vietnam currently, (native New Yorker) and watching this felt like a trip down memory lane. The first time I went to Vietnam I went to most of the same places that you went to (Sa Pa, Hạ Long bay, Hội An, Marble Mountain, District 1...). The first wide shot of Hanoi that you took in this video was from a venue that I went to last week! Glad you had a great time here! I've been living here for 5 years and it's been a cathartic experience for sure.
This video actually made me miss home. I'm from Vietnam but I've been living in Ireland for the past 5 years now. It's nice to see my culture seen by someone I watch for such a long time and seeing some of the place I recognise as well. Thank you Joey. Maybe come and visit Ho Chi Minh next time, would love to show you around.
he did visit ho chi minh
@tdat1828 how are you finding Ireland in comparison?
@@tdat1828 oh shoot i probably should have watch the entirety before commenting 😅😅
@@miunya Less crowded, more peaceful, but horrendous weather 🤣
The anxiety level experienced just watching Joey through the screen was palpable. Super contrast at the end from all the beauty and wonder of the first half. Definitely a powerful journey and an incredible vlog, Joey. (And Happy B-Day to The Anime Mom!)
This feels like such a different side of Joey thanks for the tour of Vietnam
It's like the olden times Joey
I’m so glad that Joey visited Vietnam. As a Vietnamese, it is so awesome seeing his reaction to our culture, foods, cities and places. Hope he will come back again someday.
Ur dad is so chill i love his vibe we need more people like him on this planet
Us Aussies are hella chill 🤣
I went to Vietnam last year as part of a group tour and it was an amazing experience. It was so much fun to see each new place Joey visited and to be like “hah! I was there!”
The food was great, the history was super interesting and insightful, the architecture was amazing.
The only downside was the heat and humidity but you have to expect that in South East Asia.
But anyway, I could live of Bahn Mi for the rest of my life.
as a university student currently living in viet nam i totally agree (about the banh mi part)
+1 on that statement.
Thanks for vlogging your Vietnam trip! Wow this makes me want to go to Vietnam myself. Im Viet-American and my mom immigrated to the US right after the Vietnam War so she doesn’t have many good things to say about her homeland sadly. But I feel like her view is skewed and that Vietnam’s changed a lot by now. It looks so beautiful!! Wow!
Hiii Joey, glad to see you enjoyed yourself in Vietnam. I saw you in Sapa but wanted to leave you alone with your family (absolutly not because of me freezing in the presence of you lmao). You're always welcome back to Vietnam and show case what Vietnam is really about!! Sending our Vietnamese love to you ❤❤
You could just see the pure happiness on joey’s face
You’ve already been to quite an amount of countries now, it’s nice to see you’re having fun :)
Love this!! Your family is very chill. I’m also amazed that both of your parents can still hike up mountains and caves at their age!
I'm from Vietnam, been watching Joey for a while now but for some reason, I never expected him to visit Vietnam. Me and my family are going to Hanoi pretty soon for a 5 days trip and watching this gave me a bit of insight on what to expect. A bit disappointed that my hometown (Da Nang) didn’t get much screen time though but it’s still a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
the viet cong were so innovative, some of the best to ever do it. truly a testament to lengths people can go when motivated by a just struggle for liberation.
Thank you for the video! You could have not vlog your stay at Vietnam since it was a family vacation, but you did. I'm so glad for that because it's been so many years since I visited. It feels nostalgic and I'm glad to see some things stayed the same and that you and your family enjoyed Vietnam!
Ooh we're eating good today! More vlogs and now with Joey's family! Happy to see you enjoy your time in Vietnam!
Love Joey's vlog style, its so raw and authentic. Hoping to see even more of this kind of content in the future!
Joey your travel vlogs are beautiful! I love that you show a genuine appreciation and respect for the places you visit! Thank you for sharing your experience and thank your beautiful family for letting us tag-along!
Living vicariously through travel vlogs and this was an amazing view of Vietnam! Your family is so cute and your dad is cool AF
That was super interesting! Thanks. Happy Birthday to your Mom.
Some fun fact about every place Joey when by in Việt Nam:
- Hà Nội is one of the oldest city in Việt Nam and had being the capital since the 1010 (yes).
- Bus trip in Việt Nam mostly have a half way break every tip, mostly for the driver because maybe it were their only break time for them, plus car license test is expense and most of bus trip driver is 100% do have license from military duty. The rest area is mostly made from the local though
- Sa Pa is the only place in Việt Nam able to have snow in the winter, it not as beauty as you would think. Sa Pa is a small province, it was never been a tourism place before because it was mostly small villages of Vietnamese ethnic live. But since the weather was so great that they open the tourism from it.
- Hạ Long bay is an UNESCO World Heritage and the second one in Việt Nam, the name meaning is "descending dragon".
- Hội An is also an UNESCO and the third one. The town official name if "Ancient Town Hội An", although have been keep the look since the 16th-17th century and way before that more.
- Hồ Chí Minh city is maybe not an ideal place for tourism but since this is the biggest city and not the capital, they have a lot mark of modern history in Việt Nam and you mostly know it was the Vietnam War (we called it American War though). The France influence in Việt Nam also made this city having more better environment than the North cities. Those are reason made this city a second best place to go in Việt Nam, Hội An is the best after all
- The Củ Chi tunnel was dig bigger for tourism, imagine it was smaller and darker and so fricking deep in the war. Still can't imagine how the veteran made that.
Happy birthday to Mom!! She looks great!! Gg love this video! Love the video! I love learning about different cultures it’s beautiful!! Love 🤗🫶🏻
I'm surprised that you came to our country for a trip. Hope your family and yourself enjoyed the trip in our country. Thanks for coming on behalf of all of your fellow viewers from Vietnam
Im a Vietnamese and been living abroad for 3 years now. Seeing ur vlog makes me miss Vietnam so much. Btw Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, not HCM city although HCM city is bigger than Hanoi. Nice vlog nevertheless
Haha love that you filmed this trip! I've always wanted to go to Vietnam but who knows if I'll be able! So living bicuriously through you is awesome! And it's also mind blowing that with the war neither side won and it essentially was just the most horrific war crime war you can imagine.
What an incredible trip you had with your family. Thank you for sharing with us.
Happy Birthday to your mom! Never knew how much beautiful scenery there was in Vietnam. Lots of interesting history too. Looks like it would be a very interesting country to visit.
BEAUTIFUL VIEWS!!!! Happy birthday to Momma Anime Man ~
Feels somewhat surreal seeing Joey walking the places I've been to before, it's nostalgic. Part of me wished I was outside during his stay so I might get to meet him lol.
I feel like the crusader in Indiana jones at the moment by saying "You have chosen wisely" to pick being with family over anime expo. lol. I am so glad you were able to go and have a amazing time with them. There are times I wish I had spent more time with one part of my family before we moved and I do regret not being able to. (I was really little though so I thought I had all the time in the world then)
omgggggggg Joey I can't believe you're finally experiencing Vietnam. Love ya and the boys alot!!
I LOVE Joey's vlogging style. It's simple, nothing crazy, well edited, plenty of his own thoughts, and I feel like this side of Joey has always been the same.
Always been really down to Earth with his vlogs, and I like that a lot.
No need to try hard here!
I hope you loved Vietnam, Joey, it looks like an awesome place, rich with culture and history. My only experience is with the absolutely DELICIOUS food.
Highly recommend Vietnamese food. Food is the gateway to the soul.
Edit: Oh my god... Vietnam is BEAUTIFUL.
Thanks for the vid man, I'm putting this place on the list to visit for sure!
This was very fun to watch - now I want to go to Vietnam! Also your dad is a whole vibe
That's so crazy! I also went to VN for 2 weeks for the first time, in between June and July and my family and I did the same thing where we went all the way up North and then back down South! I wish I got to spend more time in Ho Chi Minh City. We did so much hiking and got to see the Angel's Eye Mountain as well as the waterfall. As a Vietnamese viewer, I'm so glad to see more people posting their visit to Vietnam!
I'm off to Vietnam this November and this has got me so excited! Gland you andyour fam had a great time and Happy Birthday to your mum!
All i ever saw was the hustlin and bustlin of the cities of vietnam.
I didnt expect those views outside of the city. Its beautiful and kinda evokes a feeling of wanderlust in me.
Great Vlog! 😊
Nice one Sir, you have captured the re-watch trifecta: The atmosphere, Mood, Immersion (i just made that up), Can watch this over and over. Good work :D
so cool that you and your family went to Vietnam. My family hasn't been back for almost 20 years. The last time was only for my dad to see his family for a funeral and that was 10 years ago. Thanks for filming it was so nice to see Vietnam through your pov
Love how, when Joey and his dad are together, they're just vibing big time.
Reminds me of whenever I team up with my mom and we inflict ourselves on the world.
Hi Joey! Loved that you showed my motherland in your vlog! Vietnam holds a near and dear place in my heart and watching your vlog brought me back to my childhood! The next time you visit, definitely visit Hue! It has a lot to offer, especially since it was the old imperial city! Much love my dude!
Happy belated to your Mom from all of us. thank you for sharing this cool family trip - appreciated.
Love this video. I’m actually planning to go to Vietnam in the next 2-3 years so I’ll be sure to rewatch this once I know I’m going for ideas.
As far as where you should go, I went to Taiwan years ago and loved it. Wonderful place. If you’re looking for some place further away, Malta is a small island in the Mediterranean and one of my favorite places on earth
19:27 I climbed up that same mountain when I visited Ha Long Bay back in early 2020. Lots of steps to get up, but the view was amazing. And as Joey mentioned, it felt more dangerous going down. Not only was the incline steep, but the steps were not very wide, either.
Cool to see Joey visit a lot of the places I went to when I visited. Missed out on Sa Pa, though, so that's on my list when I go back in the future.
You’re like the 5th of my fav content creators uploading Vietnam trips in the last two weeks ahaha and you’re all vastly different types of CZcamsrs ahaha
This video is a breath of fresh air for me specially because im heading out to my first year of college soon and it definitely took some stress away so im very glad you uploaded this joey.
Welcome to Vietnam, Joey! I am glad that you have visited our country. Sorry for any inconvenience that may occur during your trip but I hope that you really enjoyed your time spent here.
a little correction on the video, ha noi is actually the capitol of vietnam, and hcm city is the most populated city in vietnam. thanks for visiting vietnam, hope you had a great trip and i enjoyed this video very much!
Thanks for the Vlog Joey! It was great!
...honestly it's got me thinking I should record some of our travels in Africa >.>...
I really love your travel vlogs man, thanks for doing them!
The caves at the bay was probably my favorite part. The war historic place was a very harsh reminder of how bad war is. I think people often forget that in times of peace. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
I personally always wanted to travel the Greek isles. Love me some Greek mythology and taking a cruise in the Aegean Sea would be a dream come true. Probably why I loved the caves the most in this video. So spiritual and mythical. They also somewhat reminded me of the temples in Final Fantasy X.
your mom is having an awesome birthday, I would like to visit Vietnam too someday.
Nice! I didn't think you'd be visiting Vietnam. Hope you enjoyed the experience! - From your Vietnamese viewer :D
the bunker is claustrophobia nightmare fuel. it's like it kept going on and on and on and there's no end in sight.
but this was a lovely vlog! Thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the video. except for the bunker snippet. Your family seems like fun people to hang out with too!
may I know if you've traveled to Cambodia? there are a lot of places there that feel mystical too.
Animom telling the buffalo “good job!” On their hike is so cuteeee
Vietnam is a fantastic place to travel. That sapa hike was super nostalgic, especially the mud slopes and buffalo
yayyyyy im so glad you got the chance to visit vietnam!!!
I've been super craving going cave exploring the last few weeks so seeing at the incredible caves you got to visit (the tunnels were amazing as well) has me hyped even more to find somewhere!
1 hour of Joey travelling? What an unexpected treat!
I went to Vietnam this year for the first as well, it was quite shocking sometimes but it really put things in perspective. I'm editing all my Vietnam videos right now, and I look back on it very fondly!
Good shit, i rarely enjoy these typa vlogs but this one was quite enjoyable
I’m so happy that you decided to visit Vietnam, I was just there for 2 months and it was very fun!
Glad u enjoyed our country mate
This was awesome! I can’t wait for the Korean trip!!!!! North to South again pls
Welcome to my country. Thanks for this wonderful vlog Joey.
Thank you for showing us a vlog of the trip!!
Went to Vietnam for 2 weeks for a school trip like 15 years ago and remember visiting some of these places, Ha Long Bay and Marble Mountain were some of my favourite places.
Thanks for visiting our country 🇻🇳
Watching this video gives me insane flashbacks on when I went to Vietnam several years ago. We only stayed around the parts of Hue (middle Vietnam) and Saigon, but I loved the view rewarded climbing on top of those mountains. Even the mundane lifestyle I stayed at a relative who owned a small coffee shop, was such a sight and an experience! Glad you enjoyed the trip!!
Awesome vid man thanks for that
Joey should try vlogging more often. His vlogs are really nice and seem authentic.
Opening scene..."we're not going to do anything illegal...on camera." Love your trip videos!
I got to travel to Vietnam too this summer, unfortunately never got to travel to the northern part. Glad you enjoyed it too!
Amazing work as always Joey
Thank you for sharing our country's natural beauty with international friends. Viet Nam always opens arms to welcome foreigners. There are a lot of gorgeous places waiting for all of you guys.
For me being Vietnamese I appreciated that you traveled there!
Officially my fav videos of yours, these are so legit and freaky
It’s crazy seeing you in Vietnam. Very cool of you visiting my home country!
As a Vietnamese viewer (of your anime channel though), I can't believe you reached Sapa but didn't go to the Fansipan! The view and humidity up there is insane, definitely worth an experience (be prepared though)
Vietnam is beautiful. I can't help but be reminded of similar places in the Philippines that Aki can take Joey to the next time they visit. Places like Hundred Islands in Pangasinan, Coron and Puerto Princesa Subterranean River in Palawan, Banaue Rice Terraces, Sagada, Baguio, Vigan, Tagaytay, Chocolate Hills in Bohol, etc.
I'm Filipino and I've been to Halong bay and experienced the overnight crew ship package. I've also been to Coron/El Nido but I must say that the view and the islands of Halong Bay are way better than ours.
Im really enjoying this one as I loved my time in Vietnam. Shame the weather isnt so good. I hope it clears up later in your footage
I've been to Vietnam twice now. I miss that place. Your video makes me miss it even more. Thank you for sharing your travel vlog.
VIETNAM MENTIONED 🎉🎉🎉🎉
VIETNAM MENTIONED!!!!
YAY! I'm so happy you visited my home country, its been a long time since I last visited Vietnam, man everything in this video feels so nostalgic to me. Thanks for visiting my country and hope to see you in Vietnam someday.
I know its not really a main part in the video, but joeys rain coat is so cool, i love the hand bits!
Keep up the awesome work and videos Joey
