not the most accurate representation. 16 in Istanbul means judgement, one way or another you have to be political, your status, education, belief and sexuality all become targets on your back in a highly polarized community. You have to find yourself and voice under an outdated and corrupted authority. All these kids are at the more liberal standing point. Also the headscarf is one of the biggest reasons for conflict in the country. As religion and corruption has for so long seemed connected. Majority are Muslims, but once you fully practice Islam you are associated with the disliked conservative movement and the Middle Eastern culture that has for so long contradicted the vision of the Turkish Republic. You should have interviewed kids from different high schools. Uskudar American and Robert for the more liberal and complex yet privileged kids, Saint Joseph or Saint Benoit for the old Turkish-European ecole and Kadıköy Anadolu or Cağaloğlu for the middle class that finds independent and ideals in their freedom. Also one of the most beatiful cities in the world, com'on the scenery could be so much better...

To be honest, I feel like my country's teenagers have been represented badly in this video. Living in Istanbul is more than just what you are interested in, what your hobbies are. I feel like they have been talking about themselves more than the impact on their lives that comes from living in Istanbul. Istanbul is not a city where everyone doesn't have hobbies and get to live a life like that. The pressure on teenagers comes from the education system would be so lovely to see. It is not exclusive to Turkish citizens. The refugees' experiences are worth hearing, so that we can see the reality of Istanbul in a larger scale.

I am 21, and i can assure you that this type of people exist. Everywhere in the world, as long as there is Internet. We live in world where globalism had never been more prevalent before. Especially in countries with suppressive authorities youth tends to be more effected by global trends. This is actually a subconscious behavior that allows them to express their will and want of more freedom. This is called reaction formation as defined by Freud. These kids are a part of an ideologically suppressed community. Once allowed(funds, family's support) they will form an opposite reaction the forcefully imposed ideology. Yet most of the teenager in Turkey are not allowed(family's restrictions and others causes...) to form such reaction thus bringing us to the point that video is both right and wrong on behalf of depicting teens of Istanbul.

As a Turk, I need to say that of course 10 or more people can not represent the whole country, you shouldn't expect this. But I think this video shows that 16-year-olds are in need of expressing themselves, they are probably from upper-middle-class, so they have the money to do whatever they want. Still, it doesn't change the common need: expressing yourself.

Eğitim kalitesinin önemi her geçen gün artmakta. Evrensel düzeyde başarılı olmak istiyorsak kendimize yatırım yapmak en mantıklı seçenek gibi duruyor.

Honestly, imo, I think this video is completely fine. And I'll tell you why. First of all, I'm not Turkish nor have I ever been to Turkey. So I can't complain about the lack of diversity and social classes amongst these kids. That's for the Turkish peeps to do.
What I will say is that these videos will obviously be rather shallow and "pathetically" made simply because it's a fashion/arts/music (idkhow to classify this) magazine. They want to highlight the good parts. Hasn't fashion/pop culture taught us that? All it wants is the glam and glitz. If we really wanted to know what it's like as a 16 yo in general, someone can make a short movie about it. Would be a lot more impactful, especially if it's local people who make it. More perspectives would be involved.
And, I think that it's nice to know that there are some people who will push for change. Whether they're rich or poor shouldn't matter as much because they do wish for change. That's all that should matter.

Okay let me tell you what it is actually like to be an average 16 year old in İstanbul today part by part:
1: I agree with that one.
2: it is true that most teenagers hate the current government but this is not all of them there are very religous teenagers still supporting the current government. Plus the teenagers that hate the government(even tough they are right) mostly mob mentality idiots who take all their political advice from twitch streamers.
3: I agree with that one
4: Most of the teenagers today never go outside and they cant get friends outside of computer games. Plus the current education system wont allow you to do anything else from school if you want to be successful and go to a top university. Therefore it is really tough to do sth else like programming in your spare time.
5: 90% of us dont have boyfriends and girlfriends and only the most attractive people in highschool date with each other.
    6: agree
    7: agree
8: nothing to say abput that but know that only 0.0001% of people do art
9: Most of us are skinny fat and just dream and procrastinate going to the gym. So congrats to this disciplined guy
10: nothing to say about that.
11: this is actually true a lot of girls dont wear it only for family reasons like it used to be people can now wear jeans and a hijab and no one judges you.
12: this is 30% of the teenager population and people who are above 90 iq hate the app.
13: As a teenager whose family is middle class you cant afford to have dreams like that. And your family forces you to choose realistic and safe jobs. SO probabaly that girl is rich.
14: nothing to say about that.
15: The party CHP spesificly does propaganda to the youth to get their votes I am not saying it is bad I am just saying this is what it is. (Just like AKP doing propaganda to religious muslims) so the akbil move may not be that he cares about the youth so much.
16: The music culutre here consists mostly of trap that makes no sense or youtubers making songs and getting100m+ views.
bonus: living in istanbul you dont get to live the perks of living here because there is no time left from school and going to home. Anneni sikerim

Being a 16 years old kid's like you are not even at the beginning of your life. You just started to have a conception of the things around you like art, music, religion, politics etc. Most people have to wait to turn 30 so they can make their way in their lives. So I'm assuming the ones who tend to judge the teenagers in this video are not adult also. I remember my high school years and I'm so regretful that I wasted my time instead of spending it on different things that actually matter. I feel like I postponed my life. This video doesn't claim that they show you the general perspective of whole youth in Turkey.

People keep telling that this is not what are teens like but if you try to get to know them , you can see that this is really what are the teens like. Of course there are teens who are growing up in such bad places of İstanbul but there are kids like that all around ttthe world . so this is İstanbul , this is the original teens of İstanbul. But there are a bunch of thoughtless, empty teens too.
