What are The Villages in Florida known for?
According to Blechman, the Villages made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the world's longest golf-cart parade by lining up 3,321 of them. There are other records the Villages holds. “We have the highest consumption of draft beer in the state of Florida,” one Villages official boasted in 2002
The Villages is just the best place to live !!! Soooooo much to do and see and such happy and friendly people !! And close enough to our favorite beaches - St Pete Beach and Treasure Island - about 75 minutes away!! And far enough away of a hurricane surge!!!

@@solideomusical Great question- people who live in the coastal cities of Florida evacuate to central Florida when a severe hurricane is forecasted. The homes in The Villages are built to withstand 140 MPH winds- I think we haven’t had a wind greater than 60 MPH. The Villages is world renowned for flood prevention system- countries come from all over the world to study how The Villages prevents/manages severe flooding. We have retention ponds that are connnexted with a maze of drainage system to collect the rain water to water the landscaping and for us to irrigate our yards. If one retention pond is flooding, the water can be moved to another pond or sent to flood the golf course or sprinkle the golf course. If a retention pond is too lowC water can be transferred to it. If it is raining too much and retention ponds get too high or homes might flood, they divert water to flood the golf courses to prevent flooding of homes. The golf courses are used as flood fields. They will flood so the homes won’t. You will also see golf courses and roadway sprinklers going even if it is raining to reduce the retention pond levels and prevent flooding homes.
The power lines in the neighborhoods are all buried- so power outage is very very rare. There are big big power lines do run threw some areas in The Villages but then get buried as they come into the neighborhoods.
@@Mushkiepotamus Wow- sounds like an impressively planned system! Please indulge me one more question: in the random event of a power failure in the middle of summer what would the people do? I am talking specifically about air conditioning as I understand the summer temperatures can be extreme.

The Villages are terrible. A bunch of greedy seniors, acting like jerks. Their monthly, undeserved, Federal welfare checks should be eliminated. Their Medicare premiums should be tripled. These common sense policy changes would benefit all Americans.

@@billpasaki4769 ......I did. It was stupid. You're apparently angry and need meds. If people work 40-45 years and earned a pension why would you want to deny them what they earned? My suspicion is you don't have a pension, didn't save enough to properly retire, and you have to work until you die. Embrace it - life is about choices.
