    Most asked questions.
What is so special about The Villages in Florida?
Imagine living in a city the size of Manhattan where the landscaping is mature and perfectly manicured and instead of a Central Park there are over 50 golf courses along the rolling hills and lakes. Golf carts are the main method of transportation and you have 3 town squares that take you back in time to different locations like you are in a movie set.
This is why The Villages at times are referred to as "the bubble" there is no where else on earth you can find something like it. It seems too utopian for many that they think there must be a catch somewhere.
What is The Villages Florida famous for?
Have you ever heard of the term "free golf for life"? There are 55 golf courses in The Villages. 42 of them are executive courses with 9 hole layouts, these courses offer residents free golf for life. The other 13 are country club championship courses, most of them 27 hole layouts with a couple of them 18. There are also several golf instruction academy's for all skill levels.
Do I need to own a golf cart to live in The Villages FL?
The short answer is no but you may want to, here's why.
In Florida you don't need to register or insure a golf cart. The infrastructure for using a golf cart to get around in The Villages has been prioritized and there are over 100 miles of trails dedicated for golf cart use. There are 2 big bridges for golf carts to cross the big roads and hundreds of tunnels that making it a very safe and fun way to get around.
In the town squares it will be a little easier to find parking and there are designated areas for fueling and servicing your golf cart.
Locals estimate that there are over 60,000 golf carts in the Villages.
Is The Villages Florida expensive to live in?
To live in The Villages FL it's only 3% higher than the national average cost of living making it very affordable.
There is FREE live entertainment 365 days a year at all 3 town squares giving us a special place to get together and socialize with friends and neighbors.
The First is Lake Sumter Landing. It is the largest square and it has a seaside town theme that is absolutely beautiful looking over Lake Sumter.
The second is Spanish Springs and this area has been designed to pay tribute to the early Spanish settlers here in Florida.
The 3rd is the newest Brownwood Paddock square, it's reminiscent of an early 19th center Florida Cattle Town.
Can anyone come visit The Villages FL?
Yes The Village Restaurants and town squares are open to the public and there are many hotels to accomodate visitors.
What are the dissadvantages of living in The Villages FL?
The biggest dissadvantage of living in The Villages is the location. You are in Florida but still about 2 hours from the nearest beach which is Daytona Beach on the East Coast. The closest beach on the gulf is Clearwater Beach and it would also be over a 2 hour drive.
Why do people leave The Villages FL?
The most common answer is to move closer to family or grandkids. All throughout south west Florida this is something that comes up from time to time that people want to move closer to their kids. Some really enjoying their grandkids and would like to be more involved vs seeing them around the holidays. Everyone is in a different season and stage in life. Because The Villages is a 55+ community it makes it harder for family to make the move with you.
Another reason that comes up is people want to move closer to the water. For many this is a seasonal home and they would like to take advantage of the water and enjoy the beach life for a season.
I also know of people who sold their beach home and beach condo and moved to downtown to enjoy that life for a season.

Information on this video is old. The theater in Lake Sumter is the only one still open. The one in Spanish Springs is being turned into a gym. While the old guy is being turned into apartments. There has been no word on what they will use Barnwood for. Also Edna's on the Green has been open for several years, it has music in the afternoon 365. A new venue for music called Sawgrass Grove will open in a few months. It will also have 365 music.

It has reached 100+ villages, and is more than 140K people. That’s already been confirmed. Also, you numbered the squares wrong. Spanish Springs is the first square because The Villages was built from north to south. Lake Sumter Landing was the second square, and Brownwood was the third.

@@RealCoasttoCoast I live in and LOVE The Villages - and we do have close to 140K in residents and growing. About 40-50 square miles - all golf cart accessible!! Even though it sounds large, in each little neighborhood, it feels very small town! We know our neighbors- we have fun with them and watch out for each other!!
Spanish Springs was the first town square, built in. 1994.
Lake Sumter Landing opened in 2004.
Brownwood Paddock Town Square built in 2012!
Sawgrass- though not a town square - opened last year and is a fun food and entertainment venue.
Eastport- the 4th town square will be opening in the next couple of years !!

I looked at the Villages and the surrounding area. Homes in the Villages are100,000 to 150,000$ higher priced than homes within short distances away from there with very little property. Homes much cheaper with acre lots are minutes outside there. The community centers with shops and entertainment etc are open to non residents of the Villages. Most things at the Villages are still available in surrounding cities. some of the reviews show lots of fees to live there more than other locations. Do your research....

Our friends moved there and loved it until she developed a heart condition and the "friends" they met, didn't want to be around someone with health problems because they were there to party and have fun and she became the buzzkill that reminded them that they weren't in high school but were senior citizens only a step away from serious health issues themselves. After she died, her husband moved back to North Carolina to be near real friends and family.

My neighbor smokes medicinal pot on a daily basis in his lanai and the smoke engulfs our house preventing us from using our yard and lanai, and The Villages won't take action. If by boring you mean free golf for life, hundreds of miles of nature, hiking, biking, walking trails, a movie theatre, a performing arts center, over a hundred pools and rec centers, lakes for fishing, a bowling alley, numerous bars and restaurants, free live entertainment and dancing at multiple locations every single day, over 3000 clubs and groups to join, car shows in the squares, farmers markets in the squares, craft shows, parades and holiday functions in the squares, softball leagues, pickle ball leagues, water aerobics and on and on……..Then ya. It’s boring with nothing here.
Outstanding video Marina! Thanks for addressing the negative comments in your video. (We all know they’re coming). So many folks who’ve never been here love to comment on unsubstantiated rumors. When you’re number one, they’ll never stop trying to bring you down.
