    I survived Kathmandu. I went to Kopan monastery and stayed at the nunnery. Your video is the most authentic and informative. Thank you.

      the nunnery is so much better than kopan, which was built as a for profit monastery.

    Buddhadharma is nothing like Roman Catholicism. I started my path in Vedanta and Bhakti and studied to be a Catholic priest. Tantra, "yoga", and Guru devotion are all part of the eternal Dharma. Lama Zopa Rinpoche is truly an enlightened being, and his example and teachings are a culmination of all yogic teaching with out sectarianism or caste systems.

      lots of catholics join tibetan buddhism . incense rituals. protestants tend to resonate with paired down thai buddhism..jews gravitate to zen.lots of answering questions with other questions.

      It boils down to internal work and faith. Your last breath and conditions surrounding such will determine your spiritual lot. Buddhist or Catholic? Inconsequential.

    Buddhisum is not about rituals its about knowing your mind buddha never said to follow his path but he taught you how mind works and its impact on life , its a science people really dont understand it.even a monk can't be im right path but a lay person who is doing his work on mind nicely can live his life peacefully he can be called buddhist coz he know how to use his mind for good of others and himself and guards the mind well.yoga is for physical health as buddha said if you want to keep mind healthy you have to keep your body healthy without your body your mind cant b able to take good descions have you tried when you get ill so yoga is good and its use is that much only

    That is so true: the similarities of rituals. Born Catholic as well. I went to a Zen Buddhist temple for a while, then I realized the rituals are all the same, Sunday prayers called meditation, not enough freedom to discover yourself, even festivities are all the same, only with different names. It is good for community building, gathering families with children. This is a good beginning but if you are looking for something for your self, you just need to move on. Buddhism is my foundation, just like you, and now I graduated to Taoism or maybe to just being-free thinker. Experiencing all these though, I still want to visit the monastery. It is something that I need to do. Thank you for sharing.

    • @MarcoPino
      @MarcoPino  Před 5 lety +1

      Oh really? I never been to a Zen monastery but I thought it would be completely different, with no rituals at all. I also attended Taoist classes for sometime, but I was also put off by the rituals. You had to kneel and bow your head hundreds of times to all the Buddhas. But rituals is not really the problem. There are also many rituals in Hinduism which you experience whenever you do yoga in India, but I love those. I guess it’s more about a personal preference and destiny.

    Hi Marco. I will teach english to children in Kathmandu, maybe next year (it was canceled due to covid), i'm thinking about staying at Kopan for a week before i start the classes. When i was looking for info i saw that they ask to leave my phone and laptop out of the monastery, i understand that when taking a course, but does this also happen in a free retreat there? I was thinking about calmly prepare myself and my classes there, so some kind of device use would be helpful. Is it possible to carry at least my phone there if i'm not in a course?
    Thanks in advance, best regards from Portugal.

      Hi Bruno, oh I didn’t even know they have that rule. I’m sure it’s not a problem. I used my iPhone to record this vlog and I think I also used my laptop to work on my blog while I was at the library. So good you’ll be teaching English to children in Kathmandu. I hope you’ll enjoy your time at Kopan and good luck with everything else. Take care.

    Lord Buddha's real teachings are totally free of all dogmatic, ritualistic, free of believes, but however these days lot of ritualistic / belief systems have penetrated into the teachings some due to adapting them from other religions , cultures (Tibetan, Sri Lankan, Thai ----) which are not Lord's teachings. One can weed out those by learning the TRUE DHAMM & practice accordingly. Lord Buddha main Teachings are : middle way + 8 fold Noble Path, + 4 Noble Truths + Causes & effect (Paticca samupada ) + Purifying the mind from 4 main root causes of defilements 1 LUST 2 GREED 3 HATRED 4 IGNORANCE. That is to Buddha's teachings. There should be no praying, Hero worshipping, Offerings, -----------. His true male disciples have to adhere to 227 rules & females 311 rules so that their path become smooth, steady, safe. Females have more rules not to discriminate but due to the nature of their body / for more safety. Develop loving kindness to all beings alike without any discrimination. However BUDDHA can not stop some ignorant acts of misguided that happened even during HIS life time, Theruwan saranai.
