Musashi was a Ronin in Japan from 1584 to 1645. He is probably the most famous swordsman from history with an undefeated 61-0 duelling record.
Not only was Musashi an excellent swordsman, he was also a writer and philosopher. His book, The Book of Five Rings, is still printed and read to this day.
Musashi's philosophy is one of self reliance, inner calm, acceptance, and discipline. His work is read all over the world to help people develop mental strength and the qualities needed for a resilient and happy life.

These principles have been repeated time and time again. Every great man from Europe to Asia, from 600 BC until now has tested and proven them. Makes me wonder sometimes why still to this day 99.9% of us can't seem to grasp the completely. For the record I find myself in that category being driven by anger, lust, pleasure seeking, and emotional attachments far more than i care to admit. I wonder why it's so hard to transcend our baser nature when doing so appears to be the secret to true success.
We are imperfect, and without former education in these matters one can't apply those principles.
Also people in general don't apply these virtues, because it is hard, it demands dedication, commitments and conviction to grow and follow
such values.
It is easier to go with the flow of our society, to be with the heard, to be greedy, envious and egoistic than being virtuous.
The problem lies in us, and every one of us must make this change.
One can change, but as a whole, it requires a lot of trials and failures to achieve.
It is simpler just to conform to the actual standards.
I had, and still have, problems with self control, anger and confidence , but I shall overcome them.
Because our baser natures are what keep us as a species alive. Without hunger we would not eat and die. Without lust and love we would not reproduce and go extinct.
Ask your self a few questions.
Like " how do I feel after I do (blank)?
Why does this no longer make me happy?
Am I even happy?
And whatever you answer to yourself. Then ask. "Why" or "why not"
And keep asking why. It will help you find your problems and in turn help you find yourself. Then. You can make your own principles to further better yourself. And when you do. You will find similarities with Miyamoto Musashi
As said by Foxman, I think you shoukd go to meet what you call baser nature. It exists and refusing them is for me the best way to be under their rules. Go and meet them, ask them why are they here, what are they meant to bring to you, be honest to yourself, look for the answers which are inside you, even if they are pointed out by an outsider, you are the only who can say if he is right or not.
Many things are born of habits ans schemes given to us by society, Nature has nothing to do with it.

this is Japan back in the old day. You can't compare this to 21st century. If those rules are useful for what, they seek, let that be their way of life.

Always be willing to get up and go at it again and again and again, for that’s the person who has their hands raised later in life, because that was the person with dreams and goals. We are what we do repeatedly, because today it begins, tomorrow it continues and it never ends, until we reach our goals.
this is why i don't regret what i was nor what i did in my past, because i wouldn't have turned out the way i did without them. My past is a part of me, i accept that, i do not let it define me, but i learn from it, and i am all the better for doing so.
Reflecting on theese teachings i lived so long, i have to admit...i failed you master Myamoto. 28 years i kept the sword in my heart. It was to hold on to it. It was to give meaning to my existence...but now i realise...i just used the sword as reason to hide from the world. To hide behind it instead of doing what my life was intendet to be.
Be happy.
A simple task, yet so difficult to accomplish.
Now i realise that it holds lots of simularety.
The parh of the sword and the path of life.
Thank you for all your teachings master, my time of lonelyness is over. I lay down my sword, for it has no use to me anymore. I will allways keep it next to what fills my heart now. Rest in peace.

This is so true. I tried to be detach and I know I was more logical but ppl around me is calling me indefferent and emotionless (not seeing the good result of my detachment). Gaslighted me and went back to an emotional person. Guess what? Needed therapy to be emotionally stable again. After what happened, I decided to be Logical and detach emotionally than to suffer again. I wont care anymore for what others say.
Total detachment is something like living like a Robot. Its the feelings that makes us human
Sorry ash. But wrong. Emotional attachment is what makes sheep. Sheep, know what to think, but not how to. Sheep, know where to go when told. Not how to get there on their own. Rise above your primitive ape like being. .. Discard emotions. Yes. Some, are good. But like tools, emotions are only useful in certain situations. Like tools, you will always have them, simply, learn how to utilize them. You don't need a screwdriver to change a lightbulb.

And again it's about the ABILITY to detach from emotion not about being detached from emotion all the time.
Even being able to do one of these gives you immense power there was times when I didn't have the money to eat what I wanted so I ate what I could and thought about his teaching and it gave me power over the situation and this is only one time ... D

Detachment is an interesting concept. For example, my foot wasn't looking for the thorn in the carpet, and indeed, it certainly found it. "Detachment" took on a whole new meaning for me at that 'point'. Specifically, I very much desired to detach the thorn from my toe. It certainly was emotional. Similar happens for things that have more of a positive experience attached that just sometimes show from time to time. Great video and interesting principles. Thank you for sharing!

I like all of these things but I see it more of a thing that you shouldn't fall too deep into. Take your cup of water from these things but don't over indulge. I think having a good meal, having love, having fun, having interest and passions are great but they conflict with some of these codes. So me personally I think you should be allowed to have the joys of all these things just dont let it consume you. Moderation is key to being healthy in mind, spirit, and body.

You'll have to arm yourself with much more knowledge and be fully open and willing to let go of what you think you know if you want to be able to follow all of these.
The biggest thing you have to do is be fully aware of your ego. One can never truly shed all ego, but you can be conscious of its attempts to effect you. The rest comes naturally as you sharpen that understanding.

Why isn't the philosophy good.
So beautiful in Islam we practice all of the things he mentioned in order to become a Arif(Mystic) we practice an ascetic life to show that the only pleasure comes from worship and we worship God because that's our sole purpose in order to reach perfection and the perfect man is the one that seeks only God's pleasure and no longer cares about even the pleasures of the hearafter he only cares about God. We even believe in Shia Islam that Socrates, Aristotle, plato were all prophets of God as they taught monotheism. Miyamoto Musashi is an amazing philosopher thank you for your amazing videos
It's a stretch to say that Socrates and Aristotle taught monotheism. Plato's ideas were used heavily to inspire monotheistic tradition, and not long after he lived either. Socrates, although we know so little about him and his teachings, a lot of stuff attributed to him could be used to argue against any sort of higher power. Aristotle was also used in a similar way to Plato, but they had to work pretty hard, and make some questionable connections, in order to connect him to a monotheistic god.
I would be interested in hearing a rebuttal though! After all I haven't done an intense study into each of their respective histories or beliefs. Aristotle kind of, the other two I know through a few book chapters on them, podcasts, and an article or two.
If someone can explain the context behind these quotes that would be neat! some of them are pretty straight forward but i am guessing some of them will probably hold a deeper meaning.
Irony here! A man this wise is a result of accumulation of life experiences walking this earth. And yet, everything he warn against he has for sure tasted it himself. Otherwise he is just piggybacking another man's experience which takes the awe out of this romantic samurai advice.
To warn against something doesn't imply that the person warning has never done it.
But I'm pretty sure Musashi didn't do most of these things in excess.
Also these teachings are thousands of years old. Musashi didn't invent it, he just rediscovered or respoke them.

One is emotionally attached, the other is just acting out of will.

of course I look forward to my future. I'm curious if I'll actually become a neurosurgeon. i already love the child(ren) I'll have, or my relationship with my partner. but if i died this moment, i wouldn't have any regrets.
the main reason is, I'd get to meet Allah Taa'la. as a Muslim it's my belief that we came into this world from paradise, and that's where we have to return too. yes I'll make the best of the chance of life I've been given, but i don't fear death.
and I was not talking about suicide yknow😅 i love Allah too much to throw His gift of life away like that. my parents and brother too, i can't do it to them.
