These are $20 for 1 or $35 for 2. Price includes USPS shipping.
This video answers some of the most common questions I get about using the Notch-O-Matic. I also demonstrate the tool by notching a Kirk Corner Notch point.

I am looking forward to using mine, it is on the way, thanks Ted
I purchased two Notches-O-Matic tools. Shipping was very fast! I’m a fairly new knapper and this tool works extremely well and has made notching so much easier for me. No more stalled notching platforms. You don’t need any certain skill to use the Notch-o-matic. I purchased two of them so I can make one paper thin and it will make super tight notching channels. Works for other things like removing step fractures and islands. I also found it to be easier than pressure flaking in serrations on points. Way more than satisfied with this tool. For the price and efficiency/effectiveness you can’t go wrong. Everyone needs this tool in their tool kit. It’s plenty strong enough to notch through the thicker spots of points without breaking anything. Very happy I purchased these tools.
Thanks Austin!
I was hoping you might tell me where you purchaced the Notch-O-Matic? I have looked and looked. I am at this moment attempting to make one. The spring is the toughest part to find, says I. I think it'll work but more options are always a good thing. Thanks in advance!

That’s an interesting tool I have only just started knapping and have never seen one of those before, I’ve been making all my own tools as flint knapping isn’t as popular in the uk, really enjoying the videos, keep em coming, thanks 🙏🏻
Great instructions Ted. Such a handy tool for troublesome notches and hinge fractures. 👍
Thanks Randy!
Good Video….. just what I needed! Thank You! 0:19

Everything stated in the video MUST be adhered to. In particular, the seating has to be miniscule. This one thing is critical when notching thinned points and brittle stone like Obsidian. A tiny platform and a very small pull-back against the spring is critical otherwise the “ear” will be blown off.
I practiced on flakes first. On small points, holding the point, holding the tool and pulling back on the spring requires dexterity you must learn BEFORE tackling an actual point or you frustration will erupt.
The next critical thing not mentioned in this video is the first starting flake(s) best done with a “needle” tip flaker. As Jack Crafty’s videos taught me square the notch on the edge and get the notch started BEFORE using the tool or you will blow out the edge. Thereafter, VERY carefully square off the extreme left and right edges after each flake detached by the notching tool. If you don’t do the latter the little “C” flake removed can be too large and blow off the ear.
This tool has entirely changed my success in notching points!
Great feedback. Thank you.
Just delivered my notchOmatic can’t wait to use it, thanks theolithics
I hope you like it. Happy notching!!
Thanks for the video, it answered a lot of questions I had about my Notch-O-Matic and how to use it. Took too big of a bite last night and totally blew apart the base of the point I was working on.
Glad it helped!
First we got the knap'o'matic now we get the notch'o'matic.
We got spring loaded pressure flakes now?!? 😂😂😂😂 not only do I want one, but I’d never think flintknapping would ever evolve!
I'm sure this won't be the last idea. Flintknappers are about the most creative bunch I know.
You should check out the Thebes video I just posted.
Chasing symmetry is like chasing ghosts. You might believe it's there, and keep trying to find it... and keep trying... and keep trying... you've seen someone else with proof, but dangit, can't get your own. 😆😅🤣😂
My notch-o-matics should arrive today. I can't wait to try it.
That's truth on symmetry!
Oh wow thanks for the info, notches aren't easy for me
Looks cool.
Mine are in the mail, can’t wait to get them and start knocking some hinges off.
And maybe I’ll notch some, but that would require me finishing a point, and I don’t know if I’m that cool yet.
😄
And I bought a scribing compass just to help me with symmetry.
It always felt off to me otherwise.
The compass is a good idea. Symmetry is my 2nd biggest problem. Notching is first.
Hi Ted!
Hi Jim. 👋
Smart Indian’s would make a straight line from tip to notch’s. Best cutting with two straight lines. Look at a Fred Bear broad heads. Dt.Paul,Minnesota.
My dad told me how to get the most out of my tool when I was 14😂😂😂
How do I go about getting the notch-o-magic

Was that you at Flint Ridge selling them?
No. I sent some with my buddy Clay Wykes.

Where did you get that horseshoe nail flaker?
The receiver part is from Dave Parker of Red Rock Lithics. rrl1@netins.net
Couldent you use a flat head scredriver and wack it with a wood handle pushing on a flaker dose the same thing your using two tools to do what the pressure flaker dose alone dont get it
Never tried it.
All of that and your notches were not even !
Never are.
