- Rover 75 Cylinder Head Teardown And Testing - Valve Inspection & Head Gasket Update
I recently bought myself a 2000 plate Rover 75 Club. It's the 1.8 K series engine (yep ... head gasket drama)
We took the car for its very first Road Test. The Rover 75 was going well ... And Then It All Went WRONG

This could turn into a full rebuild - not out of neccessity but because your dad likes to do things properly. This is the old school that we will miss so badly in the future.
Were lapping in new valves as I type
Yes very true, Ive got the Rover 75 V6 Saloon and okay she has alot of miles on the clock and the parts for the usaul wear and tire are always come if you like it or not.
Aleast O know what ive got
@@JonCouplandYou may as well be fully confident in the refreshed engine so you can thrash it on the road and enjoy the K series character.
I’m still not sure if a neglected cooling system caused the head gasket failure, or if a failing HG made someone try a bodged quick fix using Stop Leak or similar. Or did tge typically failed fan controller cause overheating and subsequent HG failure.
Nothing beats watching someone who obviously knows exactly what he is doing! I love watching tinkering, but blimey your dad knows his stuff. That head will end up better than it was when it left the factory - nothing will get past the inspector!
Dad was taught at Gaydon by Rover so I'd hope they told him the right information 😂 but things change as do technical issues etc. thanks for watching us. Glad you're enjoying it so far
These 75 videos are great, dad is a rare gem 💎. He definitely knows his stuff.
Thanks for watching ☺️
Excellent video without all the shouting, American, over the top effects! Down to earth, no glitz and straight on with the job! Don't change.
Many thanks. We pride ourselves on being just some blokes in their workshop in Lincolnshire. No fuss. No drama
Excellent.@@JonCoupland
Just brilliant to watch your dad work reminds me so much of the older technicians when I worked at Mercedes they had a great way of nurturing and explaining what was wrong and how to fix it he’s making a cracking job on the 75 and will be better than new I would expect well done both on a great video
I'd definitely class him as an old school mechanic
I did this for the first time on a Hillman Hunter GLS with the Holbay 1725?engine around 1989. It’s a bit time consuming but well worth it. The car will run sweet once this is done, and you also know it has been done properly too. Great work Jon’s dad👍👍
Nice work!
Your dad sure likes to do a good job 👌D.I.Y ... I can put up a shelf, but not that 😂 he's got skills he doesn't know he has ..great to see it done 🙏 keep up the good work you two 👍
Thanks for watching ☺️
Poetry in motion 👌.
Many thanks 🙏
Fascinating mate your dad knows his stuff
He certainly does 😊👍
Jow would i have handled it, umm I'd be sitting in the corner rocking back and forwards making gurgling noises 😂 Fantastic job by your Dad as usual. Enjoyed the video as usual.
Thanks for watching as always ☺️
Your Dad and me agree that for a lunch tinned fish on toast or dried noodles do a bang up job
I cant argue with that
My personal fave is pilchards in tomato sauce on toast - Mrs thinks I am weird yet she only eats Xmas cake with Wenslydale cheese. Horses for courses I suppose @@JonCoupland
High Guy's. Another episode in the can. Two words that your dad used and which I have not heard in a very long time.
"DECOKE & COLLET'S". Descriptive words which I knew exactly their meaning. See you in the next one. 👍👍
Thanks for watching ☺️ hope you are enjoying the process
Hi another great video thanks jon your dad certainly knows his rovers i have just watched another video by matt from furious driving titled k series gasket replacement there is some really good information in that video certainly worth a watch
Many thanks 🙏
Very much enjoyed the vid, really interesting 👍🏻
Thanks for watching :)
I stumbled across your channel looking for Rover 75 content, i own a 2005 ZT with the turbo version of your engine. I must say I'm throughly enjoying the 75 saga, very informative, and loving the banter between you and your dad. He's proper old school mechanic, very knowledgeable and modest with it. Keep up the excellent work. Well done mate, as your dad would say.
Thanks for watching Mark. Glad you are enjoying the chat and content. Plenty of Rover 75 'stuff' here and still to come 😀
Perfect content for Sunday afternoon 😃💪🏼
Thanks for watching 😀😀👍

Dads A proper old school mechanic. do it once do it right Great viewing
Thanks for watching ☺️
Another good video
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
Dad was Grumpy Greg at the start. 🤣 So would I have been, to be fair.
Aye but in fairness to him. Someone had backed into his car sadly that morning 😭
Have you tryed these White sponges for cleaning the Motor
Which ones? Happy to try anything 😀
What would you do without your dad, I guess you'd have some very big garage bills to pay. Great video you two, as always interesting and entertaining.
I wouldn't have a collection of rot boxes 😂
Hope your dad can work his magic and get the old 75 back to its Previous glory
Many thanks 🙏 were getting there
@@JonCoupland Cheers 🥂
Does those sealants have a use by date? Those bottles look old..
We have bought new sealant 😊
Surely Rimmer Bro's at Bracebridge, just outside lincoln will be able to help with the parts and sundries that you need seeing as they are Rover specialists.
Sadly we've found they are quite expensive in comparison to others such as MGRS
@@JonCouplandThey are in most cases but they're always nearby (in my case and yours) to get what's needed the same day if necessary.
Throughly enjoying this series. Top work both 👏👏👏👏
@@verved1 many thanks 🙏
The car has been under water in a bit of flooding and not recommissioned properly?
Were not sure. We don't think so ... But could be?!
