- Gaming Pastime reviews Burnout 3: Takedown for Xbox.
Developed by Criterion Games and published by EA, Burnout 3: Takedown was released for Xbox in September, 2004. Burnout 3: Takedown is one of the greatest games ever made. Racing doesn't get more exciting than this.

Burnout 3 and Revenge is where the series peaked.
I don't think Paradise was terrible. I just think it was blasphemous to remove crash mode. I think they could've designed some great crash mode levels in that open world if they tried.
@@habadasheryjones Paradise was decent. Hunting for / chasing the unlockable cars in the open world was really fun.
@@habadasheryjones Exactly! I remember discovering there was no crash mode and my heart sank. Like why take away the 1 thing no other series had :(
I would just say 3. Revenge was alright, but the only new thing it brought to the series was HD visuals, which is nice, but it had those next gen grey and brown graphics and I had a hard time seeing where the hell I was going half the time. Either everything is too dark and shadowy or the sun is shining in your face and I would always crash because of that. And the shortcuts were way riskier than they should have been.
@@Ckoz2829 shit man I remember that now, it didn't even have contrast or brightness settings I had to mess with my tv settings in order to actually see the road better even then the sun was still flaring.
"Running over pedestrians would have been awesome." Haha I never noticed their absence.
But then again it would just get
an m rating, and if you want a racing game that you could run over pedestrians check out carmageddon.
To be fair there were people in the cars.
Sorry for the late comment.
@@CryptidWubz You can clearly see that there's no occupants inside of the cars, especially when the doors are open.
@@buggy730 I can send a screenshot
@@CryptidWubz ok
The menu music (at the start of the video) was my favourite thing in this game.
Count me in as well, indeed. Too bad you only hear it at that one time while booting the game.
Sadly it's the only piece of original music in the game
@@ChaseMC215 Don't forget the song when you unlock a new car. ^^ And the original OST is available in Paradise (Yes there was an original soundtrack before they put licensed songs)
If only EA gives #NFS series some rest & let #Criterion revive the #Burnout franchise 😔
Agreed
That would.d be great. NFS is more mainstream and more popular. Apart from the name, I suspect this may partly be due to the licenced vehicles. But I just find the Burnout games more exhilarating and more fun. And I actually _like_ that the cars are unlicensed. We see the same cars again and again in so many games and movies. But these cars are not bound by the limits of what actually exists. The developers are free to create whatever they can imagine. These cars are all new and different (even if some may remind you of existing vehicles).
I find it exciting to see what cool, interesting and exciting cars will come next. It makes the next car you discover, as much of a mystery as the next track or event to be revealed. These games are constantly rewarding the player with something new, which makes playing them an exciting and rewarding experience.
The Undisputed king of arcade Racers if there is any game that deserved an HD remaster it's this one but damn it still looks good even to this day
Road Rage Mode / Silver Lake track / any fast enough car = hours and hours of fun
Hey man, the soundtrack's the best part of the game.
Video would get leg dropped with copyright strikes but definitely agree
Agreed.
You can't turn off MCR and FOB on PS2.
Shit is S U R R E A L
Was listening the sound track at work the other day which brought me here!
As someone who never played Burnout 1 and 2, I really like these reviews. It's cool how you showed the gradual evolution of the Burnout series and how it formed it's own identity, especially with its lack of licensed vehicles. I agree, Burnout 3 is one of the best games of all time, period. I have over 100 hours logged on my PS2 memory card, so it was definitely a big part of my childhood! Just the right amount of brainless fun and high speed skill.
Great review, great content!

One of the best racing games ever made. They don't make it like that anymore
One of my fav Childhood Games
This is the best Burnout game, full stop, Burnout Revenge was good but bloated and took the focus too much off of racing, Paradise was ambitious but a bit crude in implementation.
This is the one game that made me say out loud to myself:
“Where has this game been all my life?”
I recently started playing Burnout 3 on emulator, and the constant feeling of adrenaline rush I get from it beats my previous best experience with Doom Eternal.
And I have no one to thank for introducing me to this game, than your reviews.
My first Ps2 Game that still finds itself being replayed to this day...
My favorite racing game of all time. Getting the gold on the crash mode levels was a damn fun way to spend a summer.
Summer gaming is the best. On the days when you decide to stay inside, nothing is better than being in the nice, cool basement with a cold drink and a huge stack of video games.
If I could resume my childhood in 2 games?
Burnout 3: Takedown
Burnout: Revenge
For me its B2 and B3, revenge for me was just more of the same.
It’s literally criminal that this game hasn’t had a remaster. It’s like, the one racing game that literally everyone adores.
I agree, I’d rather get a remaster of this burnout instead of the burnout paradise.
Best game in the series, love to see another entry in the same vein as takedown because that is considered the franchise's finest hours, revenge was awesome too, but it was missing some things here and there that prevent it from being the complete package, plus the traffic checking mechanic isn't for everyone.
Nope. 1&2 are still the best ones.
I grew up playing Takedown and absolutely loved it. Last week I bought Burnout Paradise Remastered hoping that it would capture that same magic, but while it is entertaining, it doesn't even come close to the focused, action-packed Takedown. It's the intently designed tracks that I sorely miss. I haven't played Takedown in well over 10 years, but I can still dream every turn and corner in those tracks. The cluttered map in Paradise hasn't left an impression.
Anyway, great review.
Do you happen to still have Takedown at all? Along with an Xbox/360, or Ps2/Ps3? Might as well play it again. Lol I still do here
@@whenyoucantthinkofanewname I do! Actually saving up for a good upscaler so I can connect my old Xbox to my 4K display (without it looking like a pixelated mess haha)
@@ObscuredJellybelly Haha that's cool, Hope it goes well. I got an original Xbox hooked up to a older Tv I have in my room in full screen. Unfortunately it's Av but I'm not too bothered, I also have the Ps2 hooked to my newer Tv on Av. The graphical difference is crazy now lol (I have a Wii and Ps2 to HDMI converter. Only using the Wii one atm)
@@whenyoucantthinkofanewname Yeah I'd prefer to just buy a CRT just for playing old consoles, but I really don't want to bother with having an old beast of a TV sitting in my living room hahah
@@ObscuredJellybelly Haha yeah huh. I prefer bigger TV's now, hence why mine is 4k and Samsung.
Everything about this game is amazing and I'm currently replaying the game on the pcsx2 emulator, though it is a shame that burnout 3 never got an official pc release.
i love this game but sadly we will never get to this level of arcadey goodness ever again
gimme like 7 years im working on it!
@@markwatson3248 hurry tf up 💀
Coooos, it would be the same game
This is the greatest racing game for me. Great visual (although looks a bit outdated today due to low resolution), full of action because of crowded traffic, linear routes and aggressive opponents, and authentic properties (I like every continent have their own unique traffic vehicles)
So many memories... Great Review!
You could release this game as it is with only the resolution bumped up and nobody would believe it's almost two decades old.
Burnout has been my favorite arcade style racing game because of the destruction you can make out of just one crash or accident i remember getting this game on my Xbox and crashing on my first race thinking it was the objective of the game but now that you fully reviewed it I kinda wish the developers would remaster the classic ones or make a new one i also remember playing burnout on my old psp and me and my cousin would always take turns doing races especially on Fridays
The crash mode was AMAZING! It had I think nearly or over 100 levels!!!
Excelente video, are you gonna do a review of legend for the psp?
Yes
My record back in the day was 118 takedowns in one road rage. I heard some people got to 300+
The Lakeside Getaway Face-Off was the bane of my existence back then
I have this on PSP and loved it back in the day. I might pop it in again.
Burnout: Takedown and BLACK were my go to games on OG Xbox! We need remasters on both!
i found it weird u couldn't play custom soundtracks on what they made, try too but I couldn't figure out how to activate my songs
wow, as opposed to most other games from my childhood, this still looks pretty decent and better than I recalled
How are you playing these original Xbox games now? Are you actually using an original Xbox? What hardware, software or emulators are you using? There are so many original Xbox games I would love to be able to play.
Miss this game sm
Best burnout game period. Best soundtrack in game period and sadly that is why i believe we will not see it remastered.
One of my all time faves.
Why are these games not on EA access for Xbox or on Gamepass?
When you mentioned custom soundtracks my mind went back to young me with Burnout 3 and Black Eyed Peas-Lets Get it Started, because I had no reference for truly great music yet. Using USB sticks is how I do custom soundtracks now while playing online shooters.
B3 is a masterpiece of the genre, I can't fault anything bar some of the soundtrack and the Face Off AI mentioned in the review that will pass you and then the ticker says you are 15 seconds behind 5 seconds later.
Shoutouts to Burnout Legends. Basically Burnout 3 for the PSP :)
Man I sunk so many hours into that one...
One of my personal favorite racing games of all time.
As always, great review. I don't know if this sounds a little "out there" but I prefer the clean visual style of this game to Revenge. Two good games, I'm sure. Just something I noticed.
I've only played Paradise. I'd like to play Takedown and Revenge!
1:39 did you just slip "dangerous driving" in there or what. I feel like you might as well review that lol
Burnout 3 is one of my fav games of all time played it as a kid so much also very raging in fact my entire music taste comes from this game
I suggest that you play revenge's xbox version, the x360 is kinda "off"
Burnout 3 is my favorite game out of all the burnout games ever. Paradise is better in some ways, but I prefer 3 over Paradise 99% of the time. The only reason, in my opinion why Paradise is better than 3, is because you can play it on modern consoles. You either have to emulate or buy a 360 or Xbox or PS2 (or a launch ps3 if you're lucky) to get a chance to enjoy Burnout 3.
Plus this channel is extremely high quality and I can see it actually going places, keep. it going guys!
Great video, really captures why this is one of the best racers of all time.
Burnout - the John Woo of racing games
My favorite in the series and was the first in the series I played
Awesome! Now let's wait for the review of Burnout Revenge. Also, Burnout Legends and the underrated Burnout Dominator! 😁
All the burnout games are awesome
Righteous Burnout, mate!
Back when video games were actually FUN😢
Good memories
The best game ever made and the only game that will always have a place in my heart helped me through a lot
Loved this game. Just finished and played for like the 15th time it again.
Love this game. Crash Mode is the most fun I've had in a game like this .... ever !!!!
It still chaps my ass to this day that EA decided to remaster Paradise and not Takedown
Brought this game disc only from a video shop for about $2 absolutely no regrets
GOATed game with a fantastic sountrack.
the only racing game i ever 100%'d, what an absolute treasure
one of the finest racing games ever made
Looks very fun
"i turned off the music"
Heresy
Review dangerous driving
Note this is also one of the few games out there that has absolutely NO cheat codes for it. (unless you softmod Xboxs) This game is entirely skill based if you want to unlock something.
and axe billboards
EA knows better then to remaster this game cuz that would take away sales from the newer crap they churn out. They KNOW this game was just too good.....
I didnt play the game before i have an xb1
I love this game, it is outstanding!!!
It was cool because of the crashes I remember thinking it was the best game ever and burnout paradise too
Is this game still available for purchase on XBOX Series X?
No.
EA should port these games to pc and the new console generations.
This game used to make my eyes bleed but damn i had a lot of fun with it as well.😁
Xbox version all the way for custom sound tracks.
cant wait for revenge * - *
my first and only burnout i played
I used to stack my ps2 game collection from favorite to least favorite going down and burnout 3 always stood on top and I had games like the MGS games, GTAs and other masterpieces
Best songs to listen to when playing Burnout 3: Takedown and Burnout Revenge. Are songs by Dragonforce..... hands down. 😎
You're about... 15 years late
For?
@@Gamingpastime64 I'm just teasing you cuz this game came out in what, 2004? But *man* I love this game. When I was in fourth grade we would come home and play it on his PlayStation 2 for hours. Those were good times
That 16 year late review tho... Nice !!!
Not a fan of the muzak in this game eh? I'm not as well, outside a few certain tracks. If the muzak is licensed, I usually don't care, but other people for some reason usually do (especially read: this one series having something to do with automobiles, theft and grandness). If I can, I'll just turn off what sucks.
I recall the PS2 version of Burnout 3 Takedown forces you to listen them tracks through at least once completely (!) before it allows you to turn them off (at least in the PAL region). I also turned the Dee-Jay off, the guy was annoying.
💥💥 I never liked the burnout series
Burnout 3 isn't one of the best in the series.
It's THE best in the series.
I remember this game had buggy save file so it could corrupted easily and left your save file useless.
No screen tearing on the PS2 lol
Damn, I actually really want this on iPhone!
Burnout revenge > 3
Wow! it looks like garbage on crapbox
bro its literally the best looking version of the game, on the system that was objectively the most powerful of its generation. but console wars gonna console war i guess even for nearly 20 year old games
