Your simple tutorial saved my life as an enraged 8 year old breathed down my neck that I 'broke' his bike. Was just tryin to put new grease in his gunked up hub, and couldn't figure out how it went back together. And now he's off and happy that it coasts longer than it used to. I think this video will serve many for as long as coaster brake hubs are around. Thank you.
Dude, I know you made this a long time ago but THANK YOU. My son and his friend tried an experiment of tying floss to his bike and unspooling it. Long story short, his bearing fell out when I was fixing it and had no idea how it went together. Sir, you are a hero today.
Thank you for making this video. I've oddly never taken one of these apart before and didn't want to fly blind. I took pictures of it together as well as with the parts laid out in order, but simple and to the point videos always always make things easier.
Thank you so much! I bought a used bike for my kid and it sounded like it had rocks in the rear hub. Your video showed me how to take it apart, and I could see that the bearings were etched. Got a new set and put them in and the bike rides like new.
Winner of a video, I've been looking for "how to fix your bicycle" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Viyackson Yenacob Review - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy got excellent results with it.
I was trying to figure it out on my own to no avail. This video proves that youtube has immense value. I'm late to the show, since I avoid using how to videos but this has truly proven it's worth. Thank you so much!!! My son and I had a great ride in the park as a result.
Thank you so much for sharing this helpful video! My teenage son watched it carefully pausing in certain places and now he's down in the basement repairing the bike coaster brakes. Thank you once again! ❤️🇵🇬
Holy cow man! Thanks so much! My 12 year old daughter took her little brothers bike apart this weekend and put it back together incorrectly. I wasn't sure how to put it right for him. Thanks for the tutorial!
Gary, I don't mind taking anything apart; for the life of me I couldn't figure how this went back together. Your simple video saved this old 'coaster' bike from a trip to the dumpster. Thanks a million
My assembly has : brake arm, bearing, 2 brake shoes, clutch, a smaller bearing, then the driver, another bearing, and sprocket. I’ll have to grind one of my wrenches too. It’s on a child’s pedal bike having 12” wheels. But your information about packing in the grease holds everything together is the important part. My assembly was lacking enough grease. The brake side , I wasn’t able to get loose. So left it alone. Either side of sprocket are bearings. I believe I’ll use marine grease since children play in water while on their bikes. The bike was a give me type and was neglected.. It’s all greased and assembled and rides great. Stay safe and thank you👍🏻❗️🇺🇸 7-19-2021
This video saved my life I bought a motorized bike and had to remove the coaster brake arm but couldn't get the coaster brake back together properly. Thanks to you I was able to get it back together and working right. Thank you Thank you Thank you
Thanks for making this easy video. I had to finally service a coaster brake at the age of 64, that was full of monofilament line. I wasn't sure how it was gonna go back together, but your instructions were great.
Gary: Thank you so much for this video. My kid's bike has a Dachang hub and I couldn't find an assembly diagram for it. Your video was perfect. Steve in Sierra Vista, AZ.
Super huuuuuuuge thank you for this video!!! My coaster brake was bad, so I took it apart and re-assembled it. But, then the wheel wouldn't spin freely. The problem: I tightened the 'cone' with a wrench and it was too tight. After hand tightening the cone the wheel spins smoothly. Strangely, I don't know what went bad with the brake in the first place. But, re-assembling it fixed it. Now it's back to normal.
Too Many Years and had Forgotten to Put the 2 little ears into the Brake Assembly Slots and Then Grease the Brake Cups (2 ea) on the Shaft. Appreciate Your Time for Making this Video Thank You.
wow, you saved me. please do NOT EVER take this video down. this is the easiest and most accurate video. it's amazing. i completely understood exactly how to fix it. one view and i got
awesome!!! check this, be me: almost a 60 year old man, sees ancient 70's era huffy bike on craigslist, buys it, the bearings are dried out, old grease is dry, i take the hubs apart, clean and repack with grease, front wheel was a cinch, the rear wheel is the gotcha, i had it all apart, bearing cage is loose and bearings go everywhere, i pick all the bearings up in a rag, clean everything, pack with grease, even the broken bearing cage i pack with grease which will now hold all the bearings i dropped and luckily found them all, thanks to your video i managed to put the rear hub back together including the bendex brake (otherwise i would not have brakes or peddles working, kudos to you and your helpful video :) new tires and seat, bearings are repacked with fresh grease, time to take this old bike for a spin around the park
Great Vid, real simple. Took one out of a project bike for my little girl who was a couple months from ready for a 20" and as usual, got sucked into the spring power equipment prep so it sat, completely disassembled but thoroughly cleaned in a project tub patiently awaiting my attention. I get it all lubed up and for the life of me I couldn't remember how the darn brake shoes went back into the hub correctly. Feeling like an idiot, but at least now it's right. Thanks dude.
Thanks Gary, I just watched a video that showed putting the brake assembly in before the shaft. But, building the brake assemble on the shaft, and installing like you did seems so much easier. I'm new at this, and easy is much better for me. Now, it's off to the basement to see if I can "get 'er done."
Nice, quick video. Last week I decided to change the rear cog on my old Schwinn cruiser... to make it easier to pedal for an old guy... And then got it all apart and wasn't quite sure how to get it back together.... your video was perfect! Tanks and Jeeps
Thank you Gary! This short video is exactly what I was looking for. After disassembling the hub, I wasn't exactly sure how to put everything back. Perfect and I just subscribed your channel! Please post more useful videos!
Thanks so much ! My friend taken apart his kids bike hub for some reason and could not put it together so it ended up in my hands in a plastic bag , I’m gonna try later with this video on hehe
Very good tutorial my good sir. Main thing is my spring and bearings are completely destroyed and so is my rim hub where the spokes connect. QUICK EDIT! Very nice machining work too.
Great tutorial. Our bikes got a dunking in salt water from hurricane Irma but I was able to repair them after watching this. I would suggest to disassemble the hub from the sprocket side as shown and leave the brake arm attached to the axle on the other side. And be careful to get those two little "ears" into the slots before inserting the assembly into the hub. Toughest part was finding a thin wrench to lock the cone in place. I had to widen with a grinder a flat wrench that was a bit too small. Thanks for the help.
Thanks! I got the biggest thing I needed (the position of the small bearings when reassembling) and got my coaster brake hub replaced... now to save the parts from the prior one and get a replacement clutch/bearings so I have a spare again... and to NOT jam the brakes on so hard it strips the clutch again.
This video is a lesson that tutorials don't need to go for 45 minutes to get their point across.
You sir, are doing it right.
Well no, because he starts with it already taken apart which tells me nothing about how to get it apart.
@@legendxcarisso taking aparta is the easiest part.. 🤗

This is the most concise and clearly articulated instructional video I have seen on CZcams. Kudos!
I've been riding bicycles over 50 years and counting. Have to say coaster brakes are my favorite. Nice how-to video.
Thank you for making this video. I've oddly never taken one of these apart before and didn't want to fly blind. I took pictures of it together as well as with the parts laid out in order, but simple and to the point videos always always make things easier.

Thank You! I cleaned up my Skyways and got the coaster brake working flawless.
Man with all the cool tools you have at your disposal, forget the bike I'll make me a flying saucer.
Thank you so much👍👍👍.. I took kiddo’s back hub and didn’t know what i was getting myself into🤦🏻♂️..✌️
1st bicycle component to stump me since I was a kid. Thanks for the enlightenment!
The shot of how the brake are placed on the assembly is what cleared up my problem . Thanks, this was a short and right to the point display.

Thank you ! This was simply precisely what I needed to learn to repair my sons bike! You made it magnificently simple!!
THANK YOU! You have the only video that doesnt skip over the break assymbly!
