I have a little shop in my garage where I do custom fabrication. I worked my way through College in a Machine Shop and I never got it out of my system. I'm part of the Maker movement.
DIY Nut and Bolt Wire Bender
I made this Wire Bender for a couple specific bends in 4 mm wire. I started with the Nut and Allen Screws because they were hard. I'm still tuning, and I have a couple ideas for my next bender already but this is pretty good. Better than expected. I have a store bought standard bender made to bend anything but it could never grab the end of the wire and do these tight little bends all together.
The whole thing is small, built to work with my bench vice. I could have used my grinder to make the nut but I wanted to see if I could get through it on the little mill. In the end, Carbide cuts everything.

Does the inside of the hub wear out over time? Is it a cast steel insert or do you need to change the whole hub?
Seems like it has to wear. But I've never encountered it.
@@GaryTruesdale thats what prevents me from going coaster on my rear hub. I might burn it up lol.
This was so helpfull
Thank you so much! I bought a used bike for my kid and it sounded like it had rocks in the rear hub. Your video showed me how to take it apart, and I could see that the bearings were etched. Got a new set and put them in and the bike rides like new.
What is the part with two pins called? how can we buy it ?
Thx, I put the donut piece in upsidedown
Just found your channel and subscribed. Very nice work. I like your lathe
I just got one out of the garbage model 101.2295 and it looks pretty good and works good so I think I'm going to be crooked and sell it for a good price of $200. I should be able to slick somebody on the deal
Dude, I know you made this a long time ago but THANK YOU. My son and his friend tried an experiment of tying floss to his bike and unspooling it. Long story short, his bearing fell out when I was fixing it and had no idea how it went together. Sir, you are a hero today.
Just saved me man, thank you!
Is your blade running from left to right or right to left? It’s hard to tell from viewing the video on my phone.
why have you greased a brake that don't sound right
Thank You! I cleaned up my Skyways and got the coaster brake working flawless.
Good evening, I was been educated by watching your metal work on a bit of Al minium. I was trying to understand a word that you used to describe the creating the grip on the handle you use the word describing it. I am trying to understand that word on your video, but I am not spelling it right I am an amateur looking at this professional man at work. My inquiry is because someone has asked me to design a grip handle for them, and I was trying to understand, the word used to describe the process of making the metal have that grip after trying to cut the long story short. Have a good evening whatever you are in this world would appreciate your response. Thank you.
Knurl. A Knurl is formed with the process of knurling. Good luck.

Excellent video
I have tried it on both forks and every orientation but no signal getting to the head. It shouldn’t matter which side it’s on so I put mine back to the side without the brake assembly so it’s cleaner. I must have a defective sending unit but I will try another battery before I return it. Thanks for the video
Battery was upside down in the receiver
I threw it all in the petrol, easy, now I'm here, haha
Thanks. An easy fix now that I see how it fits together. (LOL).....
Awesome bro !
Gary, nice job on assembly! I have a question for you. On my Atlas 12”, the cross slide as you back out with the hand wheel and you back it off all the way out the slide comes disengaged from the screw. I would think there is supposed to be some sort of stop to prevent it from doing this? I’m wondering if my lathe is missing something that would prevent this. If so, do you know what part does this? Thanks
Mine is the same
@@GaryTruesdale Okay thanks, I might mount a bracket then to keep the cross slide from backing off the screw then.
When I took mine apart, and I got to the part I’ve learned is called “the clutch”, I pulled the spring out and a washer came with it, how do I get it back in? Also the a washer is bent in a funnel shape, is it supposed to be like that?
liked the rebuild and i have one of these saws for more that 30 years and love it but i am in need of that nylon gear do you have any idea where to get one?
Thanks! I got the biggest thing I needed (the position of the small bearings when reassembling) and got my coaster brake hub replaced... now to save the parts from the prior one and get a replacement clutch/bearings so I have a spare again... and to NOT jam the brakes on so hard it strips the clutch again.
Gary, this effort is magnificent and well done! I've got a different problem. My front stoop is a combo set of concrete blocks that were poured when the house was built in 1984. The main and largest block, and 2nd from the top near the door, is probably close to 2 tons or 4,000 lbs. I wanted to get it removed but based on what I've seen on your video, 3 people and a series of winches & rollers will not work. I have picture of it but I don't think I can post them here... If you have an email address I'll send you the pics. I'm just searching for some advice on how to remove these without spending $10K to do it. Thanks for your reply, if you have time.
this helps Thanks!
Okay I have a coaster brake also everytime I hit the brakes it catches and throws my feet forward on the pedals then the back wheel loosens up why
Thanks so much really helped
This is so hilarious 😂 such a cleaver 🐌 snail... Not today mate!
Well done video. Update: The coaster brake on our bike hub for some reason is engaging apparently when you pedal forward. A half turn on the pedals and the pedals will lock up and you can no longer pedal forward. (The pedals spin freely without the chain attached so not a pedal sprocket issue). The rear wheel will spin freely with the chain attached as long as you don't engaged the hub sprocket in a forward direction. This problem started all of a sudden. At first the wheel seemed a little hard to pedal, but after about a 10 minute bike ride it now will not pedal forward because the brake is engaged apparently. Any ideas? Thanks and very well done video. Phil
Thank u!
Short and to the point, PERFECT. Thank yoy
Am using 27.5 tyre what size should I chose on the device there's no 27.5 option?
I can't remember what brand they were but were made of steel and indestructible. And there was at least one by every single door in the whole dang school, even the cafeteria!😂
Had those in one the schools i we t to
I want one.
When things were made by last it's VERY Old
That's what I was thinking. It can go another 100 years.
I guess you never went to school. Every classroom has one. 😂😂😂
No, no, I was there. Last minute everything, 'the dog ate my homework', the whole nine yards. We had Boston Champion Pencil Sharpeners. They're probably still there. They were good too. This one is a little nicer. 😄
What is a pencil?
Very clear instruction. Thank you!
Nice find and well done video! Are you still using the Atlas lathe and this mill?
Yes, I'm in the machine shop today!
That is a very, very cool little machine. I would love to see you make some new videos using it. I just picked up a Rong Fu mill drill and will be making rookie mistakes here shortly.
What am I doing wrong? When coasting it seems to shutter like the brake was grabbing and realizing a little! Problem was there slightly before I got in there.
請問有在賣嗎
I installed mine but it isn’t tracking the mileage. I set up the computer with the time and looks like I installed it as you did on the tire and frame of bike. Is there and on button?
Its been a while so I'm not 100%. I thought I put the battery in and it was on. I picked up the front tire and gave it a spin and it worked. Maybe double check the magnet on the wheel and the magnet on the frame are close enough. Good luck.
@@GaryTruesdale ok I’ll give that a try. It confuses me too because it seemed all set on the screen. Thanks for responding.
I have to do the same repair on Logan 400 I just bought. Thanks.
This is exactly what i needed thank you so much for making this
even better. cheers!
this is exactly what i was looking for! thanks
Thanks for sharing this, Gary! I see some people want to get mad and complain that you are not providing a full class but I just want to acknowledge that you shared a video to help people and kept it within many peoples short attention span. apprecaite the tip on cutting a new window in stucco. I have not found many tips on this- so thanks!
Thank you! I tried unsuccessfully so many times to get it back together until I watched your video
