  • I’m currently in the process of doing an LS swap in my 1988 Chevy V10 Suburban 4WD with TBI. I wanted to know what wires I needed to use and not. This video is a description of all the wires that come from the bulkhead plug for the engine on the firewall. I will not tell you what wires you need to use, keep or discard from the bulkhead, but I figure if you know what the wire are for, you can figure the rest out. When I was searching for what each one of these wires were, I couldn’t find a good video that explained them all. So I did some digging and found wiring diagrams and identified them all.
    Enjoy!!

    Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I've been going crazy trying to find material that matched what's in my truck, this was what I needed. Straight forward, no rambling about unnecessary bs. Perfect.

    Thank you for this. Just bought an 88 k5 and apparently that block melted before I bought it. Truck still runs but certain things aren’t working but this will be fun redoing.

    This is just what i needed except for a 88 obs 4x4 looks almost identical but wires are in different spots such a shame cant seem to find the bulkhead diagram for it anywhere. I may be able to cross reference some of the different colored wires.

    Thank you so much for this. You gonna make anymore videos of the LS swap wiring? I'm also doing an LS swap in a 88 suburban V20.

      Glad this helped! Sorry, I’ve been away from for a couple months for work. I’m just now starting back on the LS swap. I’ll be getting into the wiring more in the next couple weeks. Probably try to post more videos on the wiring process as I get into it.

    Which wire supplies power to the gauge cluster? I believe there's 1 wire that powers all the gauges. Gotta find it somehow, gauges are dead. Confirmed it's not the ground.

      @markwestbrook7834  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, TBI has lots of different stuff to monitor, etc. I basically eliminated everything from the bulkhead except for 3 or 4 wires for 12v constant, switch power and purple starter wire.

    What's the difference between the V10 and the R10. I have an 88 R10.

    • @markwestbrook7834
      @markwestbrook7834  Před 2 lety +1

      Pretty sure the only difference between V10 and R10 is the "V" represents 4WD and the "R" represents 2WD. Hope this helps.

    Hey, I noticed you're not using the term "fusible link" correctly. Not understanding them could have disastrous consequences. They are a failsafe against electrical fires.

    • @markwestbrook7834
      @markwestbrook7834  Před rokem

      Yes, calling it a fusible link is incorrect. I think it really is just a power junction block. It is black diamond shaped and mounted on the firewall between the driver side of the engine and the brake booster.

  • @anthonyalvarado5899
    @anthonyalvarado5899 Před 2 lety +1

    Best thing to do is to take all that off and start over from the fuse block instead of trying to figure out all that crap out all the wires on the fuse block are the hots the u bride from the fuses
