Check out her live version in Japan!!! You’ll thank me later…I promise.
This!!!
💕
YES! YES! YES!
TRUTH!
Yesssss 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Documentary "20 Feet from Stardom" is great. The Live Version of this is BREATHTAKING!!!!! You can only bow to her greatness.
Lisa Fisher is so respected that Luther Vandross sang backup on her rendition of New Birth's Wildflower.
a must see documentary!!!
AGREED! *FANTASTIC* documentary!!
Her vocals were stellar! Luther Vandross is the one to push her to go solo. She didn’t enjoy being out front and preferred to stay in the background. Please listen to her sing this live at a show in Japan. Her vocal gymnastics were incredible!
Love that story cos Vandross did backing vocals on Young Americans and Bowie encouraged him to go solo..
Yes! That performance shows just how talented she really is.
She has been performing solo for about the past 10 years. Very powerful vocalist.
Please please check out her live version in Japan
This reminded me a bit of Mariah Careys vocal range . Impressive.
Lisa did win a grammy for this in '92 for best r&b female performance. Patti Labelle also won in the same category that year.
She won the 1992 Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for this track.
She was also one of Luther Vandoss' MAIN backup singers with Cindy Mizelle!!! She did NOT want to be a solo singer and only agreed to do ONE album because she LOVED and PREFERED being a backup singer. She won a Grammy for that song, and if I am not mistaken, she tied with Patti LaBelle that year.
Well don't understand why she didn't have much more music becuz she's better than Mariah Carey!
They did tie and they were so happy for each other. She can saaaaaaaaaang!!!
Yes she did
I absolutely LOVE this song! When I heard it on the top 40 every week, I knew I had to get the cassette single. I love sad songs, so this one was right up my alley. I remember during the awards show in 1992, she was competing with Whitney Houston. Whitney kept winning, but then Lisa beat her in a category with this song. In her speech, she jokingly said something like "I got this one, Whitney!" Whitney laughed from the audience. It was a great moment. 🙂
She earned that Grammy, beating Whitney Houston, and just the superior quality of the track.
Since she never followed it up with anything on this level, I guess she did it to prove a point.
Point taken.
I got the cassette single too when it came out LOL. Yeah, she did an amazing job and I think, if she wanted to, she really could have gone far in her career. But she said she had her moment in the spotlight but it was enough for her and she chose to go back to being a backup. She a rarity in that industry.
Those were the good ole days we had some REAL hitters in those days.
Lisa has a kick-ass voice. Famously she toured with the rolling Stones for years as their backup. She also toured with Tina Turner as backup
Y'all definitely need to see her live performances of this song, it goes even crazier....her vocal control in the whistle register is unparalleled! And like Stephanie Mills, she can still hit those notes today. She does this thing with two mics, that I've never seen before.
She was one of the back up singers for Luther Vandross. she sang back up on all of Luther Vandross songs, She can sing her face off!!! if she ever was a woman that was hurt in a relationship, she put it in this song and oh, she’s going to take you there!❤
Now give us some Phyllis Hyman.
Yes she can 😮
this was what I grew up listening to back in the day. They didn't play about their vocal abilities. Its breathtaking
She is amazing and so underrated. She can definitely sing LIVE! ❤
Lisa Tunner what A fantastic voice she has."LOVE IT"...❤😂You can hear the cry in her voice it's beautiful.❤
Her live performance is even better 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lisa was featured in the Oscar and Grammy winning documentary ...about background singers called 20 feet from Stardom...also featured the legendary Darlene Love.
YES!!!
Also featured Merry Clayton, who threw down on the recording of Gimme Shelter. Goddess.
She sang backup for The Rolling Stones, she has an incredible voice
Lisa Fischer is a beast! You need to see her live version of this song when she was in Japan with Luther Vandross on tour and he let her sing this song. It's incredible. She still doing her thing I got a chance to see her a three years ago. 🔥🔥🔥
Yasssss❤
Saw her perform that song live in 1993
when she was on tour with Luther Vandross.
A packed theater, when she started
to sing it, we were all mesmerized.
Even Luther got hypnotized watching her.
Thee absolute BEST.
Please read the "comments" section! You reacted to the "studio" version of this song. Oh No! The studio version is very good, but her live performance of this song (in Japan) to me is an "unforgettable moment in female vocals" - so much better than the studio version. Lisa's vocals "live" of this song is probably the best vocal performance I've ever heard! Please re-do this "Reaction Video" and substitute the live performance. You can find the video clip on CZcams!!! Then you two will really be "Shook"!
yes....the live version is mind blowing
Oh I didn't read this until after I posted my comment saying the same thing. I thought that live performance was even better than the studio because you get to see her in her element.
@@aresee2003 I can't believe they didn't react to the live version in the first place.
@@JustTanya. In the "studio" version - Lisa sounds restricted or contained in some way. In her live version - I felt like I was hearing her for the first time.
@@jimmydaves I agree. I think it's the performer in her. She feels the energy of the band and other singers, the audience, etc. I mean, she's still performing live. Even her own music. I think she's just comfortable on stage and that helps with her performance.
One of our greatest voices! She also sang background for PATTI LABELLE! Great Video! Great Reaction!
And Mary Clayton. A true powerhouse!
Now y'all have to watch her sing it live!
YESSSSSSS PLEASE!!!!!!!
If you haven't already seen it, watch the documentary 20 Feet from Stardom. It's about backup singers including Lisa, Darlene Love, Merry Clayton and a few others. It is a really good doc!. I've seen Lisa many times at Rolling Stones concerts and she is the real deal!! LOVE HER!!
I second this
Great documentary!
I came here to post the exact same thing until I saw your comment.
That whole Album is a Gem and Lisa is so underrated
She sang back-up for Luther Vandross, The Rolling Stones and Tina Turner amongst others.
Her voice is phenomenal! She right up their with Mariah, Minnie Ripperton, and Denise Williams!! Amazing!❤❤
MAN! KILLIN the high note (7:38)
I was one of the ones telling you to do this one!
Amazing, underrated song. Won her a well-deserved Grammy but just did ok as a single
Billboard Pop #11 in 1991. She ended up being a one-hit wonder. How do you follow this?
She left behind a solo career to sing backup because she felt more comfortable there. But in recent years she's gone back to singing solo in small venues. But this is the only solo album she ever did. She's incredibly talented. She can sing anything and her range is insane.
To this day, i have that CD single,
and her "Save Me" CD single in my archives.
I saw her live as a featured guest at
a Luther Vandross concert in Las Vegas in 1993.
Her vocals are so GOOD!!
For sure you must watch her live performance in Japan of this song it is mesmerizing and a MASTER class in singing, she does the whistle better than Mariah and is one of the best vocalists of all time. One word…PHENOMENAL 👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏼🙌🏼👍🏼👍🏼💗💗
First of all how about y'all stop disrespecting Mariah Carey. And the fact that y'all think of Mariah straight away tells you that she's the standard.
Lisa Fischer doesn't have the whistle register, what she does is Super headvoice, not the same thing.
Mainly know Lisa from her work with this Stones from 1989 until a few years ago. Her voice was always incredible and she has a great stage presence and ability to play up to Mick Jagger on stage. It's always good to hear her solo songs👏👏👏
More proof why I have been begging for a Luther Vandross reaction of House is not a Home Naacp awards show live. One of the best live performances ever, she was a back up singer for him. Lisa also does a live version of this song that's even better than the record. Hopefully one day we get those reactions.
5:10 - Lisa Fischer said that she was simply more fond of singing backup vocals for other artists. The whole solo career wasn't really her idea, but since she has such an amazing voice, others convinced her to release an album as a solo artist. She compared backup vocals to a "tuning fork", and thus vital to the creation of good music. She said she simply got more satisfaction out of creating great music while supporting other artists. Not for nothing, if she wanted, she could definitely have had a much longer, and notable solo career, for sure!
She toured with the Rolling Stones for over 25yrs. When she decided to stop touring with them, it upset her that much, she broke down crying. What a voice though.
Lisa regularly sang Gimme Shelter live with the Stones as one of their touring musicians. The record where you are remembering the vocal with the voice cracking was done by Merry Clayton.
There was and never will be another voice like Lisa Fisher!!!
Point of reference....Lisa Fischer was a back up singer for Luther Vandross for many years and of course was a back up and featured singer for the Rolling Stones for many years. Lisa is also featured in the documentary "10 Feet from Stardom" that tells the story of Back Up Singers, their craft and their relationship to stardom. Great Doc!!!!
u gotta see her live version omg she is Awesome ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
OHHHH I WISHED U DID THE LIVE VERSION..... ITS 10000 TIMES MORE POWERFUL... SHE IS AMAZING
Listen to the live version of this song. Phenomenal!
Oh wow! I was born in 1964, so the 80s & 90s were my adolescent and early 20s years when i was really into music. I have never even heard this song before or Lisa Fisher! WHY, HOW? I mean...... Hoowee that lady can "sang"! And those higher than high notes🤯 blows my mind. Thank you for picking this one today. ❤🎼🎙
Put “20 Feet From Stardom “ on your movie list. Lisa’s in that documentary about backing singers and their struggle to get solo opportunities. She’s still touring, and she reimagines this song and others she’s backed on in a totally different way. She’s has an ethereal, otherworldly presence and vibe. A true artist who followed her true self, totally immersed in the song and the sounds. I am not exaggerating. At all.
I think Lisa FIscher became disenchanted with the industry, and decided to go back to singing backup. She has one of the most amazing voices. You can hear some of her story in the documentary,, 20 Feet from Stardom, about the lives of some of the best backup singers. Phenomenal stories in that documentary. Maybe you can do that for your movie reaction.
By the way, your faces when Lisa hit that first super high note, the way your eyes bugged out... PERFECT (and wonderfully honest) REACTION. ABSOLUTELY. ❤ I may have rewound the video a couple times to watch your reaction to that again, because it was awesome. 😄🤣
Amber asked about an award or trophy. Lisa was awarded a Grammy in 1992 when she and Patti Labelle tied for best female RnB performance. She picked up another one in 2014 as part of the cast of "20 Feet From Stardom", which won best musical film. The film also won an Academy award for best documentary feature. In it Lisa goes explains that she doesn't see stepping out of the spotlight as a step backwards. She simply loved, even preferred, singing backup. She remained humble through it all, despite being drop dead gorgeous and talented on the most elite of levels. There are several of her amazing live performances on CZcams.
There's a live version of this & Miss Lisa absolutely kills it!
Also, she has the best vocal control ever. If you watch her live, you will see her movements on how she controls her voice. Very well trained.
This song alone puts just about all R&B music today to an utter shame.
Record company (to be frank) should be embarrassed at the drivel and garbage they're putting out right now, as compared to this. Heck, this song (How Can I Ease the Pain) still holds solid even to this day.
There's a relatively recent live version on CZcams where it's just her, a pianist, and two microphones, and it's simply mind blowing.
Don't really know anything about this singer, BUT she really knocks it out of the park. What a stellar voice!
Her album is worth a listen. She doesn't like being out front. Had to be talked into going solo and even after this hit still toured doing backup.
I definitely recommend you hear her sing this live! It will take you to another world!!
Lisa is one of the few singers that can regularly put goose bumps on me you could grate cheese on! Her voice just sails me off into the cosmos.
Lisa won a Grammy for best R &B female vocal in a tie with Patti La Belle for this unforgettable song!
She was a one hit wonder. I had this album. Great album. Sadly, she didn't get the recognition & exposure she so
Desperately deserved
This is the music that I grew up, listening to brings me back to the 90s❤️❤️❤️❤️
Such a beautiful song and her voice is simply stunning! This song stands the test of time and is a true R&B classic!
Pure FIYA Vocals!!! I love your Reactions, lol ....She blew your minds!!! lol Lisa "NO JOKE" Fischer is a Diamond!!!!
I reacted the same way when I first heard Lisa Fischer tackle those high notes. I lifted my jaw off the floor after swooning over her vocal acrobatics. Sadly, she hasn't offered much after the success of HCIETP. The documentary "20 Feet From Stardom" explains her retreat from the spotlight.
You guys missed a Golden Opportunity to watch her live in Japan. The studio version pales in comparison, my all-time favorite female vocalist. She won a grammy and then went back to singing backup, including for the Rolling stones for many many years. Many of her contemporary backup singers says she owns that space.. You need to watch the Documentary "20 feet from Stardom" about mostly, black backup singers bringing the flavor to Rock music that the artists like the Stones could not get without the back blackup singers. She is highly featured in this documentary. After seeing more success from this documentary and quit the stones, formed her own band and now travels the country doing lounges and nightclubs and is perfectly happy in her new role.
I can't believe they didn't react to the live version in the first place.
Lisa Fischer is hands down one of the most underrated and possibly unfamiliar artists because of the trajectory of her career. That being said in her day she easily would’ve held her own against the great voices like Chaka and Whitney. I’m so glad you’re listening to the full version, she deserves so much more recognition. Look for her live performance of this song in Japan with the incomparable Bobby Caldwell ironically singing backup for her … she provides chills n tingles…this woman is a Queen of song and harmony. Enjoy ❤
I’ve known of Lisa Fisher for 35+ years having seen and heard her live with Luther Vandross.
She really is one of a kind.
And was plying her trade way before the commercialised Whitney and Mariah.
She won a well deserved Grammy for that vocal.
A true genius.♥️
Soooooo glad you guys finally got to this song, and to this artist!! Her voice is amazing! :)
Yasssss!❤ Finally Lisa Fischer - The singer's singer.❤ And part of her story in docum "20 Feet From Stardom" - a must-watch.
Finally!! Oh goodness. This is one of the female singers I've been waiting to hear for a long time. Lisa is absolutely great! This woman can just SANG. She never really got all the attention she deserved in my opinion. I love her voice.
You guys have got to hear the following singers. These ladies were in a league of their own vocally! You'll both love them. Please give a listen. Lisa and the following ladies sang during the same time.
1. "Angel" by Angela Winbush (pronounced Ahn-juh-luh)/1987
2. "Baby Come To Me" by Regina Belle/1989
3. "Congratulations" by Vesta Williams/1989
Wow! Amber, thank you for choosing this one! I was born in 1964, so the 80s was when I was REALLY discovering music, and I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS LADY!!! What a GORGEOUS voice!!! Don't know how I missed her, but better REALLY late than never, right???
Edit: She gives me Toni Braxton feels, one of my absolute FAVES!!!
You really have to listen to Her sing This song live at a concert in Asia, it is mind blowing! She effortlessly hits notes regular people need ladders to reach...lol!😊
When this song hit the airwaves in the early 90s, (1991 or 1992), it just totally blew me away. A torch song for the 90s, with a phenomenal singer that seemed to come out of nowhere, with just one solo album (of course, as you noted, she did do background vocals for many people for years; I looked into her work with Luther Vandross). I've watched some of her more recent performances here on CZcams. She still sounds amazing. She chose to do the one solo album and then go back to singing backup for others, despite her talent. She didn't want the added pressure of being a solo artist. That said, the whole 'So Intense' album is wonderful, and there are many live performances she has done available to watch here on CZcams.
Lisa is featured in the Academy Award winning movie Twenty Feet From Stardom…. It features some raw footage of her singing with the Rolling Stones that will blow you away….it also will answer some of your questions about her career
Thanks guys, I’ve been wanting you to react to her but you MUST react to her LIVE version of this from Japan ! You won’t be disappointed!
I LOVED Amber’s reaction when she hit that note. Many people credit Mariah Carey for starting that “whistle” in Vision of love, it was Lisa Fischer that I first heard it. She’s one of the truly spectacular talents and her singing this live in Japan is phenomenal! I need to see this reaction again
Mariah Carey did not start the whistle note. Minnie Riperton should be credited with that.
@@amontaineaurore4700 I forgot about Minnie Ripperton Loving you! Right?
@@amontaineaurore4700well no Minnie shouldn't either because she wasn't the first, the whistle register has been around for a very long time. Nice try though
No it wasn't Lisa Fischer you first heard it because Lisa Fischer doesn't use the whistle register, she uses super headvoice. And no Mariah wasn't the first but she sure as hell popularized it
Have been suggesting this for months! So glad you finally checked it out. Killer vocals!
She did win a Grammy for this. She actually tied with Patti Labelle for a song SHE sang background on.
Next to check out is her live version, then Lara Fabian - must be a live performance.
I’ve had the distinct privilege of being on a Luther Vandross tour with the group Sounds Of Blackness. Lisa performed this song for 180 shows, and each performance was just as flawless as the first. If you really want to get to know her - - she is in a movie a documentary about background vocals called 20 feet from stardom and she is featured in this movie. She has a heart of gold and a highly sought after background vocalist and lead vocalist to this very day. She is one of the most successful background vocalist out there, which is why she’s always called on tour with the Rolling Stones or Chaka Khan.
This wonderful singer, now 64 years old, has spent many years being a back-up singer for many stars, as you noted. As a result, she is one of a few singers featured in the 2013 Grammy Award-winning movie, 20 Feet From Stardom, about four of the most talented back-up singers who had not quite made it as stars in their own right. That movie is frequently on cable and you and your followers would find it fascinating.
This is why the R&B of the 90s are unmatched. The 80s, too, but the 90s were the Golden Era of hip hop and R&B. Quiet storm was a thing back then so this track would fall into that sub-genre.
Lisa is no joke, period. But also give a listen to Chante Moore, get ready to be blown away.
Almost forgot about Moore... underrated for sure!
Love her! Had the cassette. "So Intense" is another amazing song of hers❤❤❤❤
I loved your reaction, Jay and Amber. I'm glad that you discovered her, Lisa has an amazing voice. Another singer for 'Female Friday' I recommend is, Judie Tzuke tracks by her: "For You", "Stay with Me Till Dawn", "Chinatown", "Jeannie No", and "If" there are many others but these are some of my favourites.
I am SOOOO glad someone finally did a reaction video of Lisa. I have been recommending this song for a couple of years. She is a goddess! There is a wonderful live version of this song on CZcams with even better vocals.
She can still sing just as well, her voice is still amazing. And it's telling that so many artists with far less talent are far better known, far more "successful" when Ms. Fischer can blow them out of the water. Glad you finally listened to this, but you should also check out one of her live performances. She is just thrilling live.
The Live version of this when she sang it in Japan is absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!
Wow! I've never heard this before! So good. Going on a playlist, for sure! Some of those high notes reminded me of Mariah Carey back in her early days (early 90s) with "Emotions". But Lisa Fischer is on another level, damn!
The best high register notes was hit by Minnie Riperton and the highest were by Betty Wright in the live version of "No Pain No Gain"
@@themajicman745well actually the highest is someone else, but Mariah's highest whistle notes studio and live and higher then both Minnie and Betty.
The highest was by an Brazilian female and Betty Wright was measured as having the second highest followed by Minnie followed by Lisa Fisher. I might suggest Rachelle Ferrel next.@@codywalsh2075
20 Feet From Stardom has already been mentioned several times, but I will reiterate how great it is because I re-watched it 2 days ago. I must have seen it 8 times now, and there is some great focus on Lisa Fischer and her career. She's a powerhouse!
I am a Rocker, but I Absolutely love early '90's R&B Pop Soul Music...What a Voice!!! Love You Guy's...Man I Miss those day's.
I've never heard this artist before. She is amazing. Thanks for introducing me to some great music.
She prefers singing backup. But I bought this album when it came out and it is still one of my favorites. She does a rendition of New Birth's Wildflower that will make you weep.
Man this song was in HEAVY rotation in the early 90s..a strait up powerhouse singer..beautiful talented woman..this brought back a lot of memories..very nostalgic!!
I loved this song the first time I heard it years ago. It’s still on my playlist till this day. Her voice is beautiful.
Lisa Fischer was a back up singer to all those musicians that you mentioned, and then she went solo for one album. This was her opening song. However, she did an interview I heard on the radio, and she stated something to the effect that being solo and out in front was a different energy. She decided to return to back up singing and has had a phenomenal career.
My sister loved this song. Rest easy baby sister ❤
Lisa was featured in an Oscar winning documentary, 20 Feet From Stardom. The documentary was about all the great background singers who, to date, have never really gotten the fame and individual success they deserve. Her voice is quite unique and very beautiful!
Lisa should have been a mega superstar. Such an amazing voice!!!!!!
You need to see and hear her do this live. Wow! The range is unbelievable!
OMG Loved it never heard this before thank you RSR Even got goosebumps !!!
Her debut album, with this song, is wonderful.
T
As a singer all of my life I remember striving to hit these notes with that power when this came out at 14 or 15 years old❤.
She has such a fascinating voice. Such sultry sounding voice. I first noticed her singing with the Rolling Stones singing Gimme Shelter. I was hooked then.
I get goosebumps every time I hear this song.
Saw her perform back up with the Rolling Stones and she got a standing ovation for her vocals on a couple of songs. You should watch the documentary "20 feet from Stardom" to learn more about her and other backup vocalists
Yes she won a Grammy for this song ❤
This song was very popular back in the day. ❤ it
Thank you so much for covering this song! I have not heard this in over 20 years and was amazed at how quickly the lyrics came back to me! This song is stellar classic R&B. ❤
I will say it flat out... this is one of my favorite songs!!! This is still played on the radio here in CT all of the time!!! These last couple of days, you guys are picking some real masterpieces. Keep it up!!!
There were a few that have that whistle registry in popular music. Mariah, Denise Williams, Minnie Rippleton, Shanice Williams, Melba Moore, Christina, Chante Moore, Ariana, Betty Wright And Mrs Fisher.
Betty Wright had the highest register note out of all these women and you can also throw in Phillip Bailey of EWF.
Regina Belle, Micki Howard and Phyllis Hyman also.
