- Sadly Buster had to be put to sleep on Thursday 19th November 2009 and Paul explains why live on his show. Later at the end of the show Paul has to leave as he can't watch a Buster compilation. May Buster Elvis Savage rest in peace xxx. Paul O'Grady Show broadcast Monday 23rd November 2009 on channel 4.
Over 13 years later, as of the 28th of March, they are together again.

Such lovely lovely words.Has made me weep. Takes me back to when I found my beloved dog Carla at the bottom of the stairs. Its many many years ago now. Even my 2 cat who died within 2 years of each other. But at least all 3 died at home and I didn't have to have them put down.
You're so right, it's a completely different type of grief and loss. My own Buster died a year and a half ago and I still miss him terribly. We already had another dog, and she is still with us, but it doesn't really help. I wish I could have him back. He was far from perfect, but we had a very strong connection with him. Sometimes when I got home from work I was very tired and would lie on the couch for a nap, he would jump up and curl up in my arms, lick me for a bit and then nap with me. And he hated being apart from us (other than staying at home while we worked). Sorry, didn't mean to write a book about and now I'm crying. But it shows what a big place he took up in my heart, and that we were lucky to have him while we did.
Oh I agree 110%, just the other day I was going through the Google pics app on my phone and found an old video of my late staffie blaze with his trademark whimper, never even knew I had that video backed up, first time I heard his whimper in 5 years and the waterworks started for about 5 minutes 😅 it's as bad as losing your mum, dad, brother, sister, it's awful isn't it. At least I know the fat turd's getting all the chicken and gravy he wants in heaven now 😅
Yeah it's definitely different, I felt like I lost my best friend when my dog Molly died, we were really close and she followed me everywhere and cried when I left apparently, I'll never forget her so I know what you mean.
A man who is kind and compassionate to animals and who uses his wealth to help rescue animals, a good example of a celebrity!

I still remember when my Cat passed away in my arms. In September 17. At least she waited for me. She seemed happier once I held her. Then she went.
I sooo agree i have four llhassas and now have 6 pups also on top of that god forbid if anything happened to any of my fur babies i luv them all to bits sooo much they are my life 💕💕💕💕👌👌👌👌

I felt for him when he announced Buster's death he looked devastated you could tell how much he loved Buster and that they had a strong bond. I lost my cat last year he was seriously ill and there was nothing the vet could do so I had to make the difficult decision to put him asleep I was absolutely devastated I cried for weeks afterwards he was my security blanket he was so loving and affectionate I had such a strong bond with him whenever I was sad he would lay in my lap purring and nuzzling me. I said the same thing as Paul as well no more animals its too heartbreaking and months later I changed my mind and I'm now in the process of adopting two rescue cats

To anyone who says 'it's just a dog.' Animals are so much more than that, I lost my dog last year, a week before my birthday, he was 10 and then four months later, I adopted a staffie cross, he just celebrated his one year anniversary with us and he'll be 2 years old next week. In July this year, I lost my rabbit, who I had raised since she was six weeks old and I still cry for her and miss her and my dog so much.

Definitely not just a dog. I still feel the pain of losing my King Charles Spaniel on July 5th 1986!!!! Her name was Misty. Best non human friend I ever had. So I understand how you feel....
A bit different, but three months ago I lost my cat who was aged 13. Now some of you might not like cats, but this one was different. It was the friendliest animal that I've ever had. It used to wash the dogs and wouldn't try and annoy them even if they annoyed him at times. I even forgot he was a cat at times because he was so unique and different.

Paul is an absolute national treasure and one of the most kind hearted men ever! It’s so sad seeing him upset like this but It’s a fact that he loved his animals more than anyone else and Buster lived a very happy life!❤️

When my beautiful Labrador Lucy developed liver cancer and I had to make the decision to let her go, it broke my heart and turned my life upside down. I am so sorry about Paul, I actually cried this morning when I heard the sad news. He felt like an old friend as he was always on the TV. A lovely, lovely man.

Paul's other dog Olga died last year.

He is the most sensitive and kind dog, and of course we love him dearly, as Paul would have buster.

Paul was only 67yrs. Old, far too young, I learned to love that man through Batersea dogs home, I am an Australian, I wish we had all those shows he did, he was a fine human being, and very funny, his humour was never at the other person's expense, not like some other person in Australia, I loved his caring for animals, ALL ANIMALS, we will miss you Paul ❤❤❤❤ RIP
When I was growing up, I watched this show religiously - every day, without fail. I loved Buster and Olga, and I remember this like yesterday - I'm so glad Paul shared those two beautiful dogs with all of us. R.I.P. Buster and Olga!

A pet isnt just a pet, he /she is part of your life. I have been there a few times and it breaks your heart.
In 1997 i met paul in birmingham when he was in Prisoner the musical and i had a photo with Buster. He was such a lovely little dog and very affectionate.

Our much loved 12yr old puggle Blake, passed away just before Christmas 2019 he brought us so much joy and made our family complete, without him there was just emptiness and pain in our hearts......🙁

So sad. I remember watching this episode and felt for Paul. I have also said after losing both my dogs in just over 12 months, "That's it. No more dogs for me I can't got through this again." But guess what, I've now re homed a rescue Border Collie, and I love him already. RIP Buster and my dogs Jake and Hamish.
Benny Hill I think that's the difficulty of it. You question yourself. Am I doing the right thing at the right time,? He still has one or two good days, and as you said me making that decision, the phone call, the actual process is so heartbreaking. But if anyone is reading this and has a sick, poorly pet don't think that the euthanasia process is horrible for the dog/cat. I was surprised at how peaceful and so quick it was. Also vets will come to your home to do it. Which is what I did with my German Shepherd, Jake. I say it's heartbreaking for the owner who has to watch the lights all go out.
Honestly I don’t know how I’m going to hold it all together after my cat goes. No kids and he’s probably (sadly) the most precious thing in my life. Nothing makes me happier than seeing him curled up next to me in the mornings, fast asleep.

I remember Buster from the Paul o' Grady Show to this day over 10 years after he was put to sleep. I remember he was a real star of the show, one of the main reasons I watched it and he is still missed to this day. A kind, fun and courageous dog with a heart of gold. May Buster rest in peace, gone but never forgotten.

When he said I'm never getting another bloody pet, I felt that. I've been there where it's just so sad that you're like why would I ever set myself up for this kind of loss again. It's embarrassing to say but I've felt more grief over my pets than many humans dying.

i lost my best friend only a month ago to spleen cancer i know what paul is/was going through. It's heart-wrenching, but i did it for my pup to have him put to sleep. I would always get another pet because dogs needs a warm home, but nothing will replace the love. Rescue homeless dogs people!!!.
Watching this now Paul has left us suddenly. I feel a great sense more sadness than I have with any other famous face we've lost over the years. I think it's natural - O'Grady was a talent, presented like an old friend chatting to you, and had the biggest heart as seen here. As he said to Buster many years ago "Whereever you are you're gone but not forgotten". I hope if there is a heaven he's reunited with his doggies. RIP Paul ❤

Growing up I didn't have a dog so when I saw him on TV I was in love 🥰 Everyday I used to come home from school and tune in to watch Paul's show. Oddly enough Buster was born in '95 like me so when he died it broke my heart I had never witnessed a sadness like it 😢
