Poor Poppy, what jerks her previous owners, I wish they had been publicly shamed. Her cries break my heart but, she is now being loved and cared for with lots of friends, thank you Lee.
Tbh she probably missed her children… Washable marker doesn’t hurt and she may have liked it, being quite a baby herself… because dogs aren’t truly colorblind. If a dog’s ever going to notice colors it’s as a puppy…
I felt her missing the children. She doesn’t know they were doing anything wrong. She just misses their little faces and little hands that never hurt her. She was probably so confused.
@@rockdisappeared9203You are SO wrong! Kids do things to animals "for fun." They don't consider the animals' feelings, safety or fear !!!
I've been around animals AND kids a lot longer than you have, and you don't know what you're talking about.
Your stance that "kids will be kids" is ridiculous -- what an unconscionable disregard for accountability !!!
@@jaeashleystewart9326you are making a lot of assumptions based on nothing. You don't know a thing about how those kids interacted with that dog.
@greenboots_4661
As are you to the opposite
negative extreme. Under the circumstances presented in this video, a logical viewer would conclude that this newly surrendered/adopted dog is obviously whimpering because it's uncomfortable in its unfamiliar surroundings and misses what it had known before. By contrast, a newly adopted dog from a pound or shelter probably wouldn't react the same way.
@@jaeashleystewart9326 I have been around dogs and children longer than you without knowing their age is outrageous work .
I lost my beloved basset a year ago...I miss him every day. Rest in peace, my little donkey.

Lee Asher and his wife are truly amazing people. I absolutely love coming across their videos.
That's good to know! I've never seen them.
@@maureenlaneski2802 if you look up the Asher house here or tiktok it will bring you to the amazing videos he has with all his dogs that he's saved and adopted as well as all the fosters he rescues. I promise you will not be disappointed with his page and foundation.
He’s not married. She’s just his girlfriend, and he has never shown her face on camera nor given her name.
Disgusting how parents can allow their children to harm a dog or any animal by letting them paint or colour their skin, I’m glad it all came out and Poppy was able to start to live as a dog, my favourite breed.😢
RIGHT😖😖..... It's infuriating. Some people are wretched evil monsters!
Bassets are the most affectionate dogs I've ever owned.
Aww
that crying just breaks my heart and I'm a cat person.
It makes me wonder if she was truly abandoned... Ive met only 2 people that just let their dogs go and treat them like trash, but I've seen several times people try to walk up and take dogs they thought were pretty. Curious because I'm seeing a lot of videos with people picking up dogs that look like they had been taken care of. I don't agree with kids coloring on a puppy, but I do know that sometimes little toddlers can get into things quickly. He still looks shiny and well fed.
@@LoveLyriks This guy runs a rescue. Stop trying to blame him for animal neglect and abuse.
The family who surrendered her should be investigated, that’s so cruel to see her so scared and traumatized like that. Who lets kids draw on a dog like that! Thank goodness she is now happy and loved!
Frankly, a lot of kids around 3 years old would do that. They're just coming to terms with their surroundings, curious and impulsive, and just don't know any better. Did it occur to you the owners might have surrendered the puppy to save it from further such impulsive acts?
@@Electricshrock did it ever occur to YOU that parents are responsible for teaching their children proper behavior?! At three years old a child is old enough to be taught what is and is not acceptable, it’s a simple as that. Parents that don’t should never have had children in the first place, as they are not committed to raising that child properly. Another point- if you can’t ensure you can teach your child to appropriately treat an animal- DO NOT GET ONE!! Excuses are for the lazy and the ignorant.
@@saragrant9749 "At three years old a child is old enough to be taught what is and is not acceptable"
That's barely old enough to TRY to teach the basics of what's acceptable. Kids develop at different rates and I just picked 3 years old as a ballpark figure for when they might have the ability to pick up a marker and flail it around but lack a full understanding of what animals do and don't like. That such an inflection point in their development may exist is not necessarily testament to bad parenting even with a "normal" child, let alone one that may have underlying issues.
You can't talk about 'ensuring' a toddler knows this or that like checkboxes on an insurance form. Sometimes it just isn't possible to anticipate your child's inclination to do something until they do it. You hope for the best, try to teach the lessons that seem the most obvious at the time, but when the worst happens (and actually drawing on a dog is far, FAR from the worst) you deal with it as best you can.
@@Electricshrock you have CLEARLY never been around three year olds. I have, spent quite a bit of time in both a preschool and daycare working with children that age. YES, they can be shown and taught how to properly handle a small animal. You expose them to a small animal- a kitten or a puppy in a controlled situation (ie mom and dad are right there) and demonstrate to them how to behave. You reinforce good behavior and work with them to learn not to do things that could hurt the animal. It’s called raising your child- something you and much of today’s society have forgotten how to do!! My parents started teaching me right from wrong, including being gentle with animals at age two and a half to three. The younger you start, the more they retain the lessons learned. You want to wait until they are seven or eight? Good luck with that as many behaviors by then have been learned and become habits- and are much more difficult to unlearn! Today’s society has this misconception that very young children are too young to learn proper behavior and habits- and use it as an excuse to justify situations like this. It is an example of how much we have devolved in parenting- and is exactly why there are so many easily preventable behavioral issues today. If you’re going to sit there and say that a three year old can’t be shown how to safely handle a small animal like this, then you should also be saying there should be an age restriction on when a family can adopt a pet!!
@@saragrant9749 yeah you definitely aren’t a parent lol.
First of all, a daycare or school situation is more controlled than a child at home who has access to their toys and their coloring books and art supplies without the same restrictions you would have at a daycare setting, and a toddler often gets bored and does things like draw on the wall or draw on themselves. Maybe even draw on the dog a little bit. It’s not abuse to get a little bit of nontoxic marker orpen on something on a dog. It won’t kill anybody. I can’t believe the coloring part is the thing you are hung up on.
The dog was not not traumatized from being colored on. The dog was probably traumatized because the kids did way worse than color on it. Probably pulled on it and screamed at it and picked it up and held it wrong. Coloring on it was the leastof puppy’s issues. That’s just something that happens sometimes and isn’t gonna hurt anybody.
How blessed this dog got away from that cruel family who had her before, and can now live the life she deserves.
I wouldn't necessarily say cruel. Those kids just didn't know how to treat her. I've seen what real cruelty looks like...
I don't think they were cruel to the baby .. they were just babies themselves .. this pup is now in great hands.
Just ignorance. The parents bought her “for the kids”, quite small kids, without teaching them that an animal isn’t a toy.
I'm That Cruel Family 😇😇😈😈👹!
I wouldn’t say cruel they were just little them selfs probably 2 young too have a dog yet.
Young Lady Poppy with her stick showing her rescuer that she's now a confident an all grown up career girl that can bring home a stick 🥰
Seeing her carrying her stick at the end was like
" yeah, shes gonna be just fine"
She is so adorable especially when she was biting that tag. Her cries in the beginning made me want to cry. She’s so tiny. She deserves so much better than her previous owners.
Lee Asher is the absolute best person to adopt precious Poppy! She hit the jackpot because all of Lee's dogs will love her!
You won't really know until you see it personally. A video is not reality.
He really is. I just love everything about @theasherhouse ❤
You should check Lee out on The Asher House. ☺☺
@@RealityCheck6969 Lee has a lot of videos showing how his dogs interact with each other. He'll take his time introducing each dog if they need it.

Oh my gosh. Poor little thing. Glad that family did at least one thing right and gave her up. The better thing would have been to teach their children how to take care of a fragile puppy, but she is in such a better place now. Thank you Lee for all you do for these neglected and abused animals. Your love for them is boundless! 🥰
I couldn't agree more they are so lucky to have found Lee! I just can't understand cruelty in any form. I have had three rescue dogs and all have been wonderful! It shows such a lack of character to be unkind. I have had such wonderful love from my three it's beyond my understanding as to why be cruel instead of loving to these gorgeous beings. So glad they're happy with Lee now!

Thanks Lee for being light and love.
It’s contagious.
That Basset was all Bassety
First, how can people let that happen that's so wrong to let your kids draw on a puppy. With your beautiful heart and gentle ways you brought her out of her shell. And now there is no stopping that Poppy she is just beautiful love her, the pack, and of course you!!❤️🥰❤️🥰
I'm so glad that the family surrendered the puppy. They were not ready for a puppy. The kids learned an important lesson, I hope. Puppies aren't toys. When you mistreat an animal, the animal gets taken away.
A REAL CUTIE..anyone, kid or not, who could abuse such a SWEETHEART PUPPY like this is evil & will probably grow up to be a despicable person. GOD BLESS & PROTECT THIS LITTLE PUPPY & GOD BLESS THIS MAN WHO ADOPTED HIM/HER!!
I think basset hound puppies are just the cutest puppies ever
Absolutely love Lee Asher & the Asher house for all the rescues they do🙏💙🐕🐱

Hi, Poppy! I bet you’re all grown up now! I’m a Poppy, too, and sometimes I also need extra hugs.
I hope you have the best, most beautiful life, precious girl.
Does your Dad know he can put your ears in a scrunchie so you don’t get tangled up in them and they stay clean?
Sending you and your furever family all the love in the world. You are a good girl and you deserve it. 🐾
Who is it that couldn’t love a Bassett? They are a gift!
I have had 6 basset hounds and have 2 right now. How anyone could hurt such a sweet beautiful creature, I cannot comprehend. Bassets are the sweetest and most loving creatures God ever made. This is heartbreaking that such a sweet baby was treated so badly.
Hands 🙌 up AMEN!

Hello 👋. It's nice to meet you here
I saw a basset hound coming out of church. We looked deeply into each other's eyes. They are cute dogs. So loveable.
Lee to the rescue. Thank you Asher House.
She is so precious! Lee’s pack is so friendly 🐶 🐾
Considering I just brought home a little Basset girl myself, this just hurts on a personal level..
I'm so happy she's making the best of herself now with that awesome family!
I had a Basset named Charlie. I rescued him off the street near my little ranch. He was 12 and was able to give me only 2 years before he crossed the Rainbow Bridge. What a sweet, funny, adorable hunky boy. Big bark to wake up the household in the morning, giant paws for digging after critters, and a giant presence. I still miss him. WOOF! 🐶🥰
Basset require gentle handling because they a sensitive heart .
Because of thier sensitivity you have to understand that you can't use negative reinforcement ,once I raised my voice to my puppy I hurt his feelings so bad he was sad for three days.
You have to centre your life around these special blessings ,but the joy and unconditional love is worth it
No creature on Earth can unleash cruelty on another like a Human is capable of doing . Thankfully this Puppy is now in the best hands possible .
Lee is a gift to the universe.
Little angel Poppy could not have found a more perfect, more wonderful, more loving home than with Lee Asher at the Asher House. Hello 👋. It's nice to meet you here
How could you not want to love that beautiful little angel?
I am constantly amazed at how animals react to Lee Asher. He is truly one of those unique souls that can charm just about any animal. A trait not all people have. I like animals and for the most part I think they like me, but for people like Lee animals love them and they love animals. It's almost like they have never met any kind of animal that they didn't love. These type of people tend to end up working with animals whether it's becoming a vet, starting a sanctuary, working with a rescue, something to do with animals. It's always a joy to watch Lee bring out the best of a broken or sad or scared animal. He is truly a miracle worker sent from heaven.
I'm glad that this angel of a man for getting that sweet little puppy. Who lets their kids color on a animal anyway? Doesn't say much for the parents. But now this little puppy will have lots of love and lots of friends to play with every day. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Lee’s love for pups is one of the most awe inspiring things I’ve ever seen.💝
Safe to say her former idiots bought her thinking she was a cute toy for their kids, and gave up when she started crying. Because she was a BABY. I'm so glad she found a truly responsible adult to take care and raise her up into the wonderful pup she's supposed to be.
