Back in 1984, Wes Craven took the horror world by storm with the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, about a horrible dude named Freddy Krueger that hunts teenagers down in their dreams, with real world consequences!
The movie is a horror classic and led to a whole lot of sequels and even a reboot. However it definitely raises a lot of questions. Like how exactly do Freddy’s powers work exactly? Is there any consistency to what he can and can’t do? Where did Nancy get that insane library book that helps her defeat Freddy? Why is her mom so chill about this whole thing? Why doesn’t anyone believe her when obviously supernatural stuff starts happening around town? Does this movie hold up?

Freddy was always such a scary character. The concept of someone killing you in your sleep was really good as a kid. But looking back on this as an adult, none of the concepts make any sense and its plot holes galore.
That's because it's all a dream.

That was the thing about older horror movies though, they were so cartoony looking in places and it had you thinking 'That's not right'. These days horror movies just rely on jump scares.

It always bugged me how there's a ton of evidence documented by professionals and witnessed by them and Nancy's mom that SOMETHING weird is going on, but everyone goes on treating Nancy like she's crazy.
it was the 80s, it checks out.
To be fair, that actually makes a kind of sense with the reveal that the whole movie was a dream, because "something dangerous is obviously happening but no one believes you for no reason" is absolutely dream logic.
I love the pure joy expressed by the studio exec about having a lizard tail.

I've been binge watching all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies over the weekend and just finished watching part 5 tonight when I log onto CZcams and immediately find this video! Haha great timing! 😅
I remember seeing this movie for the first time when I was 7. For about a month afterwards, I wouldn't go into the garage alone but, more importantly, thanks to the bath scene everything time I took a dump that month I always thought some claws were gonna come up and either skewer me or drag me down the toilet hole. Somehow, this turned into a love for horror movies within a year.

In Nancy's mom's defense, there's really nothing she can do about the whole " two of Nancy's friends got killed within a few days of each other" thing, but, taking her to a sleep clinic MIGHT help her sleep. Which is pretty important.

That... actually would've been a great twist if the entire movie was *just* a nightmare...
the ending of this vid actually happened between West Kraven and the producer. Wes wanted it to be a single movie, and it was a nightmare, with an uplifting message at the end. The producer was like "no, I want sequel options." Also, the inflatable doll through the window was his idea and a bad one. but the soupy stairs/hallway was his idea and a good one. i saw all this in a documentary.
@@westingtyler2 well hate to say it but the producer had the right idea of it :/ if it only stayed as it was, we wouldn't have gotten the awesome films that followed and the awesome Freddy Vs Jason!
@@killeing we could have still gotten Freddy vs Jason, but yeah, we wouldn't have gotten part 3, which is probably my favorite for how campy and ridiculous it is. Although, that also means we wouldn't have gotten any past 3, so, maybe it would have been worth it.

Freddy gains power by fear which allows him to reach into reality. He plays with them to keep their fear up instead of just killing them so can gain more power.
I think it's sad to also note that immediately afterwards, he figuratively and literally takes the lives of the children he kills in order to gain strength.

These guys are great! Their synopses enable me to chime in knowledgeably about films I'll never see--without going through the pain of sitting through a movie. And they're more entertaining. (Based on a very limited sampling, i.e., movies I've actually sat through.)
