Our Experience On Disney World Property During A HURRICANE | Our First Hurricane | Signia Hilton

- This is our first hurricane experience. Since moving to Florida we realized we did not purchase any hurricane supplies. When we tried to find supplies everything was gone! We decided last minute it would be best to check into a hotel since we did not know what to expect. Of course we thought it would be safest to stay on Disney World property. We could not say enough about Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. Such a beautiful hotel!!

I am glad your family had a good experience. You were lucky and blessed. Winds can tip over semis, your heavy patio bbq and storage box could be dangerous at home. PS My cousin's grown children in Fort Myers had their business building float out into the ocean, their cars were totally submerged, and water in their home was about 5 feet deep. Cell phone communication was cut off. We in California, Wisc., and parents in Minnesota didn't know if they were safe. We saw in CA 4 minute newsreels of devastation in Fort Meyers and tried to remain calm without much success.Praying for all persons who lost loved ones, and for people to band together and help others.
Yes we were very lucky. I know there are many others out there that have lost almost everything. I hope your extended family in Fort Myers are all safe now. However, I know it will take a long time to recover.
Side note- We used to live in Anaheim, and Irvine for a couple of years before moving back to Chicago area. We are very familiar with your families locations throughout the US.

Hello from Naples, Florida. Thank you so much for sharing your hurricane experience with us. Take care and have a great week.
Hello! Thank you for watching and commenting. Hope you and your family are all safe!
It is interesting because though I'm from Canada and have only been to disney once (and I went to the California one) one of the things I've always heard about Disney in Florida is that it's among the best places to be to ride out a hurricane, like that the buildings are extremely sturdy, they aren't likely to loose power ever, and running out of food is not gonna happen because Disney . . . like what I've always heard in videos about Disney during major storms is that the storm is barely a blip on the radar for the park, they're like "due to inclement weather, we've had to close the park & pools, please stay inside" and that's about it, then they provide food and movies for the kids and everyone just waits for the weather to go back to normal.
Thank you for watching and commenting! What you described sounds like our experience in a way. I heard Cinderella’s castle is built to withstand a category 4 hurricane as a direct hit. I’m not sure if that’s completely true, but I believe it.
@@magicalfam Honestly that makes total sense and I believe it if for no other reason than "Disney is a business and they want as little downtime as is possible after storms" (and Florida is definitely prone to storms) that right there is more than a good enough reason to build the parks significantly stronger than they probably needed to be when they were originally built, I mean the Disney park in Florida originally opened in October 1971 (according to google cause I just looked it up) safety regulations back then were far different than they are now (as is evidenced by the waterpark that was part of Disney Florida called River Country that is now abandoned czcams.com/video/qewT3SYFqNw/video.html) so there may have been some pushback when it was being built like a builder being like "the chances of having a hurricane that strong are unlikely, we don't need to make it so strong" (likely as a way to try to save money on the project as builders do) and more than likely someone high up was like "too bad we're over engineering this anyways so deal with it" I mean the more over-engineered a thing is, the less likely things get damaged long term or after big storms.
I used to work for Hampton Inn which is owned by Hilton. Great company to work for. I managed a Hampton Inn and we took good care of our Gold Members ❤
Small world! I used to work for Hilton as well in Chicago. I was at the Palmer House, and The Drake. Hilton definitely is a great company to work for!
Glad things worked out for you.
Thank you very much. We lucked out; I know many people in other parts of the state did not.
Why not Disney :) glad your home was ok! We were fine too, had some river flooding but not in our home!
Glad to hear your home is ok too! Do you live in in central Florida, or closer to the coast?
@@magicalfam we are in Central Florida but a little closer to the coast, 20 miles birds-eye-view. We are North East of Disney. I’ve lived here my whole life so been through a lot of hurricanes in my time :)
Fir next hurricane, stay in a Disney hotel. They bring the characters in during the storms to the hotels it's amazing. Sooooo many things for the kids and the cast n characters play with the kids.. u can bring ur pets (just book a hotel that ur connected to main building)
That is the game plan for the next one. This time around we waited to long to decided if we were staying, or leaving. By the time we decided Disney shut down their reservation system for new bookings :(
We have defiantly learned to be more proactive next time! Plus, the girls would LOVE to see the characters. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I wonder why they left the chairs outside by the pool.
We did notice the chairs were chained to trees, or poles. Good point though. I'm not sure why they just didn't bring them inside. Thank you for watching!
Staying on WDW property is part of hurricane preparedness since Disney generated their own power and water and won't run out of food! That was the smartest thing to do! Next time, bring the grill inside the garage perhaps. Thank you for sharing your hurricane experience!
Thanks for your comment! Yes, we learned that it is best to bring everything inside next time. We were lucky this time, but next time we might not with the furniture if it was left out.

Thank you Kelsi! We greatly appreciate it!
@@magicalfam you're welcome
Is that a Disney hotel?
It is not. It is a Hilton branded hotel in the Bonnet Creek area. Almost similar to the hotels near Disney Springs
seem like you didnt need to spend them days at Hilton you didnt get hit that hard with that storm you probably could stay home
That was our conclusion after the storm passed too. Best to play it safe! Especially since this was our first hurricane.
Thanks for watching!
Where was your dog?
She was with us in the hotel room. She stayed in the hotel room when we walked around the property.
Disney is over priced for the common man,but they do wonderful work in a hurricane ,or any natural disasters, but still will never go to any of their properties, I can buy a nice 4x4 and have change left over, and not owe till am dead. All these bloggers got it made, am to honest for my own good.
There is nothing wrong with being honest. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Glad you are ok... Signia Hilton not Disney....
Thank you for your comment, and watching! Signia Hilton is on Disney World property, and a good neighbor hotel like the other third party brands near Disney Springs.
Signia Hilton, like the Waldorf Astoria and Bonnet Creek resort, are not Disney properties. Disney property almost encircles these properties but no they are not ON Disney property
