    I don't think people realize how crazy it was to get a camcorder into Broadway theater back then. It would be like smuggling in a toaster & then trying to make toast without the usher noticing you.

      silentsmurf silentsmurf Yes thanks to the recorder. The VHS tape recording must’ve been shot from the last row of the balcony. Every now and then the camera points down as if people were coming. And the cameras wereabout the size of a trumpet case. Making a DVD of the video tape was easy, but about 12years ago When the technology was available, converting the DVD to a video file took my computer over 12 hours. And sometimes wouldn’t even work resulting in an error and have to start over again so lots and lots of work… Glad you enjoy

    Nothing beats seeing Evita in person. Even a great movie can't really give you the clack clack of the goosestepping soldiers, the twirls of the tango singers, the tender ballads turned crazy crowd scenes. Saw it in London; when I looked for the soundtrack, it had this guy with the funny name...now I'm such a fangirl of Mandy Patinkin!

    His voice is simply at another level. Tremendous power and purity. It's actually laughable comparing Banderas or Martin to Patinkin.

    When I first heard this song, I SO thought the chorus was singing "money, money, money" instead of "rolling, rolling, rolling." lol I'd go around singing, "money, money, money."

    The original Hal Prince staging had been so overused and thus taken for granted for so many years. I am happy to be one of those people who always loved his staging for Evita and always saw it as innovative, exciting, and endlessly creative. Ingenious direction like that never gets old and I value it so much, ALL worldwide productions of this show could have his original staging forcefully imposed and I wouldn't mind one bit. Chances are, it would be better than the many misguided treatments this musical has seen onstage, including the horrid Broadway revival which was a too-serious film version wannabe. I'm amazed at how Hal's simple, spare staging never has a dull moment. NOT ONE.

      @UmmOopsy Před 4 lety +1

      I actually saw a similar staging during one of the recent international tour, however what triggered me was there were a few major and minor peices that looks like it was from the revival.

    Ok.... so I just noticed this.... but in the part where Patti sits down on the "people chair" in the third verse.... does she practically BOLT there and jump in the chair really quickly? If so... IT IS AMAZING.

    People hate Madonna, but that's stupid. She was singing for film where Patti was doing Broadway.
    But OH GODS what a sad joke Banderas is compared to Mandy. The power, the heartbroken bitter cynicism. Pretty boy Antonio doesn't have a clue. I never saw Ricky Martin, but it couldn't be *that* much worse.
    So amazing. Saw it in 1979, nothing more powerful. Not even seeing Mandy in "Sunday in the Park with George" in '85, or "The Wild Party" in '97.
    (That was my "Sunday" reunion day; matinee with Bernadette Peters doing "Any Get Your Gun" [w. Tom Wopat], evening with Mandy and the fabulous Eartha Kitt, the sexiest 75-year-old I've ever imagined. But this was still better.)

    • @kevinwilson3609
      @kevinwilson3609 Před 2 lety +1

      The real problem with the film was the approach to the story and the direction. It watered everything down in an attempt to make Madonna/Evita more sympathetic which conflicts with the lyrics. Bandages was the best thing in the movie but the characterizations were changed so he seems not to compare to Patinkin. Madonna of course couldn't act or sing the part so the changes made to her character come off even worse

      Are you deaf how can you say Madonna can’t sing her voice is smoother and richer than lupone. Banderas is equal to patinkin especially with his Latin accent

    Haha, me, too! I thought it was:
    Money, money, money, money, money, money
    Money, money, money, money, money, money
    Money, money, money, money, money, money
    Money, money, money, money, money, money
    Rolling on in, rolling on in, rolling on in, on in
    (or "Rolling on out" in other instances)
    I think it trips off the tongue better than saying all those R's in quick succession.

      The difference between film and stage. There's nothing like the energy racing through the audience in a theater. Don't get me wrong, I love the film. But the theater energy is a whole different experience.
      My daughter was obsessed with the Depp Sweeney Todd film. And it was good, with some surprisingly good singing (Alan Rickman didn't surprise me only because I'd heard him sing before). Then I showed her George Hearn playing Todd on stage. She said, "Damn, mum, who knew?"
      It's just a different way of doing things. Preference is personal. Cheers.
