    This the stage version of Evita , which calls for a different type of performance than the subtlety of film. Different types of audiences, too. Broadway audiences expect superior vocals, which they definitely received in this production. Films often cast bigger names in the leading roles, often sacrificing vocals. In the film version of Evita, the keys were changed and the tempo slowed to accommodate Madonna's pop voice.

    @Stoni_Mitchell Před 12 lety +7

    Sorry I didn't respond before.The belting has nothing to do with those in the back row hearing. It's a style of singing. Recording artists belt too. This is a belting role, and Madonna isn't a belter and has a much smaller range. Therefore, the keys were lowered and the tempos slowed down to accommodate Madonna's voice. It wasn't the same Evita that audiences fell in love with. I agree with the sets being cool, but at the end of the day, it's about the story and the music. (cont)

    Actually "Another Suitcase In Another Hall" is not sung by Eva, it's by Juan Peron's lover that she kicks aside. Which if you're listening to the original album the part of Juan's lover is played by Barbara Dickinson. Julie's only part on the song is the beginning ("Hello and goodbye! I just unemployed you!"

    Well I have to say Patti LuPone probably sings the best Evita that I've seen, it's currently playing in my hometown and the actress who plays Evita is from Broadway but she has to literally yell the high notes to hit them where as Patti just does it will amazing ease and that is what she's so renowned on Broadway!! And the musical I believe shows the true Eva where as the movie tries to make you sympathize with Eva

    I don't know how these ranking things work, but he was also called General Peron. In the Peronist anthem "Evita Capitana" there is the following excerpt:
    Por Perón y por Evita
    La vida queremos dar
    Por Evita Capitana
    Y por Perón General
    Which translates to:
    For Perón and for Evita
    Our lives we will give

    I don't mean to belittle the movie as I believe hard work went into it and it wasn't bad really, but I just fail to understand how you think the movie is better. They softened Eva by giving her Another Suitcase and not having a strong belt like Patti. The Evita we see in the movie just doesn't equal the one we see here.

  • @jenniferann7212

    One thing I find interesting is how the different productions of Evita reflect Andrew Lloyd Weber’s changing perspective of Eva Peron over the years. The Evita of his 1976 concept album, voiced by Julie Covington, was more shrill; the Evita of the 1979 Broadway production, played by Patti LuPone, I think of as bitter and hard. Madonna portrayed Evita in the 1996 film as tough, but more damaged than the less complex version of the character Weber originally had conceived while still in his 20s. This can perhaps best be reflected in the song, “You Must Love Me” (which first appeared in the film) along with revised lyrics to the other songs and the reassigning of “So What Happens Now?” from the character of Peron’s 16-year-old mistress to Eva herself. Because of this, I don’t find one actress’s portrayal of Eva as “better” than the another's, because in many ways they were portraying different women (and that's not taking into account the different type of acting for stage vs. screen).

It's just not possible for them to dye her hair every night from brown to blonde and then again brown for the next night's performance... you should really think more before commenting...LuPWNED!
