    That's kinda how I make my ocarinas. Just have to keep the cat off the tree now lol!

      Hi Gerald. Very cool. I love the ocarinas but there is a lot of skill that goes into making those for sure. As far as the cats go, that is a whole different problem, haha, but they are so cute, right.

    Great video - I usually hate watching videos because the maker seems to be the focus rather than what is being made. Yours are clearly presented and only the necessary information is presented so I do not get bored I think I will try a couple of these..

      Hi Sara! Thanks for watching and I am glad you re enjoying these videos. Actually you hit the nail on the head as far as what Jim and I are trying to do with our videos. I come up with the content and teach myself the most elegant and efficient way to teach the projects, and Jim is the master at videotaping them and editing out extraneous things. We know that people are busy and we only have their eyeballs for a short time. We try and make the. most of it.

    Lovely ideas! I would roll a small ball of clay in tissue paper and put it inside before edges are sealed up, people love it when they jingle!! also busy with bells❤

    • @JohnLowes
      @JohnLowes Před 7 měsíci +2

      Also another use for cracked or exploded bisque, break it into smaller pieces and use them inside closed forms to rattle.

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Před 7 měsíci

      Hi @margotpenney8608 and @JohnLowes. Great idea!! Actually you are reading my mind. When we were shooting this video, I told Jim that we should put some little clay balls in the center of the ornament to make the ornaments rattle, but the idea was nixed. One thing we try to do with these videos is to keep them short between 8 minutes and 15 if we can. This one was getting long so we kept it as is. Good luck with your rattle bells. We actually did a video where we made a rattle top lid using the pinch pot method. What we could have done is refer back to that video and put the link to it in the video---I always think of these things too late, haha. Happy potting.

    So adorable! My family and I make ornaments every year on our Christmas weekend. But we have never made clay ornaments because of time constraints. Maybe someday we can, if so these would be great to try❤️🤗🐝

    Would it make sense to hang them in the kiln on a special little "rod" I have to fire beads? Would the little handle of the ornament be able to support it ? Thank you for your great ideas.

    Are you willing to share the price range for these ornaments?

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Před 6 měsíci

      Hi Diane. Pricing is always a personal choice for each potter. You have to take under consideration where you are selling for instance I might price more if I am selling in a gallery, but I wouldnt expect to sell it for as much money if I am selling at a farmers market where people like to haggle. To come up with a price range, I always take into consideration how much work I have spent on something (although I can never expect to charge by the hour, of course) and how much I would be satisfied to sell it for vs. how much money it took you to make it. A good rule of thumb is when first price it ...put the highest price you might hope for on the piece. Be confident about your craftsmanship and presentation and really hustle to get the word out that it is special and available. Fingers crossed that it will sell if you do that, but If it doesnt sell, then you can always offer a discount to some of the people who have shown interest. Discounts can be very enticing especially when offered personally. Good luck!.

    I can't imagine being able to sell many and charge enough for the time involved in making these.

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Před 7 měsíci +8

      Hi Amy. I think you just summed up the life of a potter, haha. ...Unless you had a manufacturing production workshop Am I right. We never get paid enough in comparison to the time we put into making our pieces. I can tell you that these little pieces actually took a lot less time to make then the pieces I usually make in my own work. They were a pleasure to make...plus I can tell you from my own personal experience as a buyer, Jim and I always pick up an ornament or two at shows as our tradition is to add a couple of ornaments each year to our tree to represent that year. Give it a try and see. 🙂

      You could always give them away as a “gift from your heart”. That way you wouldn’t have to worry about charging a higher price. You could make them guilt free! 😉
