@@mr.prince7681 well Tenma is too pure for this world. He's perfect protagonist for the series where Johan is the antagonist.
Whereas both Grimmer and Johan came from the same circumstances. Both are the monsters, Johan manipulates innocents but Grimmer kills the bad guy. Both smiles like angels, Johan smiles to manipulate people but Grimmer forces to smile to spread positivity. Both don't have emotions, Johan became psychopath but Grimmer chose to find emotions to be human. That's the beauty of Grimmer's character. Johan never had an identity. His mother raised them both as "Anna" to conceal the presence of the twins. Nina/Anna is just as a monster, but the monster in her died when she lost her memories and got raised as Nina Fortner. When she is put into hypnosis, her Monster comes out again, and she was not in Kinderheim 511. So having the memories of what happened in Pray is was made them monsters.

I just had my birthday happen and got a tattoo of Grimmer to celebrate. (I’m about to be the left side of that meme, by the way).
Grimmer is the most special character to me because I see myself in him. Despite us having different circumstances to lead to our trauma, I also lack a certain level of empathy due to autism as well, but I have always tried to be a nice person to others, just and patient. Usually characters without empathy are portrayed as assholes and creeps, and it’s always led to a sort of depression for me.
I only got into Monster this past November, but Grimmer has quite honestly changed my life. I’ve ebbed and flowed between depression and being content my whole life, mostly spending it depressed but throwing on a smile much like Grimmer. It’s hard for me to smile much of the time, but Grimmer is always smiling despite his adversity and I’ve tried adopting the same trait. “Fake it until you make it” is honestly so true in this case. I’ve become a kinder person since being introduced to him, because I look up to him even if he’s a cartoon character. He’s so important to me. I know this sounds unhinged but it’s true.
The tattoo I got is a panel from the manga and a caption: “Smile.” I can look down at my arm in the darkest of my times and remember how Grimmer would treat the situation.
Sorry if my words are sorta jumbled, I was watching the video the same as I typed so I might have gotten a little confused with what I was trying to say.
I just love Grimmer with my whole heart. I want to be Grimmer for others.
    PS: He’s nice. :)

While Johan is an emotionless monster who manipulates children into doing horrible things to try to satisfy his own ambitions, Grimmer tried to live a better life, tried to be a better person, tried to enjoy life, and was really kind towards children. It was really sad to see such a great character die. I would love to see a spinoff with him going over the things he went through in his life right until his death. U desperately try to escape from the loneliness, but u can be loved only if u expose yourself and learn to be more intimate with others. Even if the vast majority of them will not have interest, or will try to harm u, u can't let that get to u. Only by not taking that personally, u will find it more and more comfortable to live with yourself, despite what the others think. I just love how even though he’s been through so many horrible things- losing his whole identity and emotions- he still tries to treat people with kindness, especially children. That bridge scene got to me a lot. And his death scene where he says his emotions finally came back was so beautiful.
I also really liked Lunge as a character even though his whole thing was just being obsessed with Tenma lol. Idk having the detective character be sort-of an antagonist was fun, he reminds me of L from Death Note in that way.
I read a really great fic on AO3 that fleshes out both Grimmer and Lunge as characters, as well as the world they live in, it’s called So Much To Say. I’d recommend checking it out, it is slash but it’s not explicit or anything and I’d say the relationship aspect is very tastefully handled.

I really liked how Urasawa wrote Lunge too. Yes he's the best detective in Germany but at what cost? He neglected his family so much they ended up leaving him. He had a cold personality. Always striving to solve cases but was so broken and confused when Tenma wasn't the perpetrator. Watching Lunge slowly recognizing his mistakes and discovering the truth was satisfying to watch.

I think losing his feelings was a copping mechanism
Because they returned when he admitted for the first time that he was the one who killed the men and not steiner
+he kinda felt some extrem emotions for short times with means he had damage in the lymbic brain

Grimmer just exudes Bob Ross energy. You wouldnt really know that they had a rough past because even through that hell they still kept grew as people and have an optimistic outlook in life and a genuine drive to find what they strive. well thats my interpretation of it anyway lol.
