  • Is trying to apply GTO poker principles at the small stakes pointless, or even harmful? See how to do a GTO study review of real life small stakes hands.
In this new video Dara O’Kearney reviews some real life hands played by his co-author Barry Carter. He shows Barry how to use GTO Wizard to review his hands, as well as gives advice on how and when to deviate from the solvers in low stakes games against weaker opposition.

What was your biggest tekaway from this video?

What Barry said at the end about his winrate in small-stakes tourneys appearing to go down after learning GTO was kind of reassuring. I might be experiencing the same thing.
I still feel very incompetent at exploitative play. Maybe you guys could do stuff on exploitation, e.g. how to use HUD stats, or what microstake population tendencies seem to be and how to exploit them. (Although the latter question has been coming up in your recent videos anyway, mostly with the conclusion "do less bluff-catching".)
Another takeaway was that I think I've been playing too close to chipEV, and that I should go over Endgame Poker Strategy again to "scare myself tight".

@@pokerchamp Thanks! I've read his later book, Exploitative Play in Live Poker. Myth of Poker Talent has been on my queue since then. I wish I had more time for poker :)
I have Holdem Manager 3, but have been wondering whether I should switch. I like that PokerTracker uses PostgreSQL so you should be able to run all the custom queries as SQL commands.

    Key points:
    1) Tourneys aren't CHIP EV, but always small ICM.
    2) GTO is a guideline (1st step) and should be used mainly vs opponents who are better than you, to not be exploited.
Thanks a lot, great insight on GTO.

I think for satisfaction's sake, you will be better off showing examples where the hands are shown on the river rather than these weak fold hands.
