  • D'Angelo Russell has a Player Option on his contract and, should he leave in free agency, it's unlikely the Lakers will be able to replace him. Knowing that, DLo plans to use his leverage this summer, which puts LA in a tricky spot. How shold they handle the situation? Trevor Lane and Ron Gutterman discuss...

    I keep hearing DLO disappeared but nobody’s talking about Rui. Rui didn’t do anything in the the first 4 games. Reeves showed up in the last 2 games but there’s no talk. I so sick of all of these comments. It wasn’t his fault they lost. It wasn’t his fault the way the game plan was coached. This is for Trevor why are you bashing DLo every chance you get. Get rid of DLo trade him . People are you looking at the same games i was. Vando hurt, Cam hurt, Spencer never could get on the floor and let him cook. Now you’re talking about trade for Trae Young, come on man. He don’t pass he wants to be Steph so bad and that is just not happening. DLo is going to stay in LA so all of these fake fans and podcasters who say they’re laker fans are just going to have to deal with it.

    The problem for him tho is I find it very unlikely he will make more then what he's making now by hitting the open market and opting out. He'll probably get less and many teams probably won't even consider him. His no show playoff performance for 2 straight seasons essentially aside from 2-3 games killed any type of payday he was gonna get. If he played well the whole series this year and averaged 20ppg on 40% from etc he'd probably definitely get more than 18 mill a year but instead he flamed out again aside from 2 games and once again his best option at making the most will probably be to opt in for the year.

But I do know what it has been since he has been with the Lakers. And the truth is, he has performed well in the playoffs with the exception of the Nuggets. The two games we lost were because we could not freaking get a defensive rebound in the final stretch . We should keep DLO. Just get proper 3 and D guard playing alongside him. Reaves should be the sixth man - or trade for him for that 3D guy. Vanderbilt at PF coz Hachimura lacks hustle and rebounding. Get a Bruiser big - we needed Dwight Howard in this series. The GM is just terrible at making well balanced teams! There's always lopsidedness to the roster he comes up with. lol. HE freaking signed two skinny soft big men to play alongside AD - what we absolutely did not need. Just because a player would be useless for most teams, doesn't mean you don't sign em . You need a variety of players that allow you to match up with any team you might meet in the playoffs.

    I like Dlo and he is not the problem here. We finally got a 40% 3pt microwave shooter, why are we trading him? We got a 0pt performance from him and the series was only lost by 11 points. The problem is mainly coaching. Even AD wants the core to run it back. The problem is he was being played offball most of the time. The only win we got against Denver was when Dlo or AR became the primary ball handler. The offense was clicking and moving. Putting the ball to lebron and goes iso for 18s is not the answer. Maybe late in games when nothing is going on our offense we can have that hero ball. That also uses old lebron more. We brought in pgs to give lebron some rest so he can carry late. But watch all those 2nd half offense against denver, as soon as 3Q comes, our offense was: hey lebron here’s the ball carry us. No play calls, no organized offense. Compared that to game 4 win, the ball was in Dlos hands and AR and the ball was swung multiple times because we are running plays. Use your pieces properly!

    • @peteranders7106
      @peteranders7106 Před měsícem

      Until this team has a 2-way SG and a 2-way SF we won't be good. We are locked into small ball with Lebron at the 4 and AD at the 5. There will be no center available that fits what would work and even if there would be, we wouldn't spend to get them. So logically we need to get guys, who can be on the floor with Lebron and AD without needing the ball, who can defend like crazy and be really good spot up shooters. Caruso and OGA basically.
      Once we do get something like that, we'll terrorize the league. Gabe, Reaves, Prince and Vando are fantastic depth. That's the thing. They aren't starters. I my opinion D'Lo is. But D'Lo is not an off ball guy. He is a rhythm shooter and should run the offense. Rui and Wood are great roll players, too, but I think the Lakers will end the Rui project. The foot speed isn't there. He'll always be a floor spacing big with questionable rebounding. That's not what this team needs. Rui is an 18M dollar 13ppg guy, who can't defend on the perimeter or grab rebounds. That's too expensive for a PF insurance policy, even if he landed in the top 10 for his shooting. It's too much money for too little impact. Wood will sign elsewhere if given that opportunity.
      What will happen is some Trae Young nonsense. And we'll probably give them Vando, Reaves and D'Lo and then scramble to find all we need in guys that can do one thing great only. Then it'll all fall apart again. What should happen is the addition of Alex Caruso and a Rui trade + picks for a good young SF, who can defend and shoot. OGA was the absolute best choice on the market, but now? Who knows, maybe Caleb Martin or Isaac Okoro and we take something back they don't want?

AR on the other hand does improve his defense but hes not that far off from Dlo. He also gets lost and over helps most of the time. I remember complaining most of the games that AR is not being aggressive offensively. I’m looking at the FGs every half and each game he only has like 3 shots like dude be aggressive so we can open the driving lanes. He only became aggressive when elimination is inevitable.
