- This is the result of my old table saw being out of adjustment and launching an off cut through my old garage door. This is why when making cuts I dont stand behind the blade.

I had a kickback that shot across the workshop hit my bicycle square on and buckled the front wheel.
If only tablesaws came with built in kickback protection that pro DIYers neglect
I've been thinking the same thing.
Making cuts like this one the anti kickback jaw would have hindered more than helped. The gentleman understood the risk and prepared for it.
It is a good idea not stand behind it, but it's also a good idea to use a riving knife
I haven't considered that until just now. Thank you.
@@DIYBuilds Anytime buddy
The riving knife would not have stopped this in the least.
@@AntiSanity Facts supporting that?
@@davidgriffin7014 riving knife applies no holding pressure to any of the pieces. Seeing as how he was ripping a piece of plywood, which is engineered so there is no twist or warp which is what a riving knife combats, there was no need for a riving knife. In the same logic the off cut was to small for anti kick back teeth to engage and keep from finding egress. The gentleman made the cut and accounted for the danger. He did it as right as he could.
while I like the idea - I dont think it will catch on with the military
Why not make a zero clearance insert? It wouldn't take long and would practically eliminate the danger that was demonstrated. Of course, it's still smart to keep your body away from the line of the blade.
Happens when your using the wrong side of the table
It was a bevel cut that tips that way. Has to be done like that.
It hurts, I've done it before lol but it's barely a scratch. However, it would puncture thin brittle plywood much easier than soft supple skin.
