  • A judge ruled that a Texas school did not violate the CROWN Act by suspending Darryl George for his hairstyle. Barbers Hill ISD removed the Black 18-year-old student from regular classes Aug. 31, stating he was not complying with the dress code. The Texas CROWN Act, which prohibits race-based hair discrimination, went into effect just one day later.

      The school district and white employers want the black students and black adults to wear their hair the same way the white students and white adults wear their hair. Black students and black adults cannot wear their hair like white people do without using heat or relaxers. Heat and relaxers severely damage our hair, causing it to break off unevenly and very badly. To repair our hair, we have to let the relaxer grow out. Once the relaxer has grown out our hair it is then badly damaged, and we then have to cut it really short for it to grow back evenly. Our hair is not made for heat nor relaxers. The only way for our hair to remain healthy we have to wear it in its natural state or wear it in a protective hair style, which include Braids, Twists, Locs, and Cornrows. The whole purpose of locs is for your hair to grow.

      There was a time when black women weren't allowed to wear braids in the workplace. A movie name "10" came out. In the movie the lead actress, a white woman name Bo Derek wore braids. When they saw how they looked on Bo Derek, they then allowed black women to wear braids in the workplace. What white people said to black people back then is that your own protective hairstyles have to look good on white people before you will be allowed to wear them in the workplaces and/or schools run by us white people.

      The problem is that the phrase "length when let down" was not in their school dress code before the CROWN Act was passed. The school and the school district read the new CROWN Act law after it was passed. When they saw that it did not say anything about "length when let down", they added that phrase in order to circumvent/get around the CROWN Act so that they can continue to discriminate against black students (black male students) in particular regarding their hair.

      You are right, but even if he wrestled, it wouldn't matter. Girls participate in many kinds of sports with long hair. There were many young men in my high school in the 70s that had long hair but managed to be on sports teams, too. It seems we have regressed as a society. Individual freedoms are no longer seen as important. Back then, my high school taught us about rights and freedoms and how to protect them. They were advocates for us. Matthew 6:25-34
    "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? [26] Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? [27] And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? [28] And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, [29] yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. [30] But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! [31] Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' [32] For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. [33] But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. [34] "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

    • @harryPair
      @harryPair Před 4 měsíci

      Well, there's a problem with no rules to length because I've seen long hair on all races not be properly cleaned and smell bad. It's much less of an issue to give a length restriction than to try and ensure people are caring for their long hair. The consequences of people having long hair that is un kept are that it can carry things that affect all the students indiscriminately. So, to ensure a safe and clean environment, a length restriction is in place. I'm not implying this students hair was not kept. But there are many rules in place that some people may not like but are best for most people. Also, I'm not saying the school implements the length policy because of cleanliness. That's just an example of how rules are in place that may not seem like they make sense until you think a little deeper.
