Beastcam has a few things that are pretty interesting that Filmic pro and Protake don’t. And straight from the beginning, Beastcam wins with price. But what about the rest? Let’s take a dive tutorial into Beastcam’s interface and functions then quickly compare it against the other apps.

I am an 83 year old UK viewer of this video, and you make it look so simple! By the time I had decided and fixed my settings, the object would have died or disappeared over the horizon! I appreciate that once done, presets can be used, but is there an in depth tutorial, showing how all the features are used in practice, for example, taking a subject and selecting the various settings to meet that requirement. This year I’ve started using Filmic Pro as a beginner. I don’t want to change as I don’t want to learn something new. But at the moment I’m happy to stay on the 6.19 version rather than paying vast amounts for the 7 version. We'll see. I have bought Beastcam just in case since its so cheap but haven't tried it yet.

Thank you for sharing another awesome video!! I have the iPhone 13 Pro Max and would like to use it shooting in manual as I do with my other equipment. After watching many of your comparisons, you have me leaning towards both Beastcam & Filmic Pro. As you pointed out, Beastcam has great manual controls along with some photo controls. As for Filmic Pro, I'm not sure if I want to spend around $30.00 in order to have manual control. Another problem I've seen with Filmic Pro is that rotation of the iPhone causes you to loose your manual settings. This would be a real pain when using a gimbal for example, while transitioning from an upright position to underslung. Have you come across this? With Beastcam, your locked in settings will remain. Both of these apps I.M.O., would be great to have to switch between due to one or the other having it's own advantages. On the flip side, I'd like to know what your thoughts and/or recommendations may be for a great photo app for the iPhone 13 Pro Max? Thanks again for your awesome videos...... Ah. Well, I have never encountered that problem with Filmic Pro or Beastcam. As for photo apps, Beastcam is a good option and Moment Pro Camera has some special features allowing for slow shutter speed. Additionally, I highly recommend the free photo editing app called Snapseed. Once you get familiar with it, there are a great many options to enhance the photos you've taken. Hope that helps. ^^

I can't see how to differ the playback FPS from the recorded FPS? Or perhaps I just need to do that on my editor? Thank you mon ami. Best wishes 😉👍
@@nigelcarren Sure thing. You want to record in 120 or 240 fps. You will need a maximum of FHD (1920x1080) to get those options. Your recording might only save to the Beastcam app by default and may not playback in slo-mo. But if you save it to your camera roll, it should work. Let me know if you have more questions about that one.

Yes. It seems Filmic Pro still leads the pack with most people, especially since 10bit log V3 is now an option with iPhone 12 and newer phones. But Beastcam is still a pretty solid app. And yes, I'm a fan of Protake, too. And in a few hours I'll release a video detailing some interesting points on Protake's Visual Analytics. You may like what they offer with False Color in particularly.
I just paid for the BeastCam app. I first bought filmic pro and it’s certainly a performer, I think it lends itself toward more cinematic shooters. I found Filmic Pro on my iPhone 12 Pro feeling real estate screen challenged, then having to open up the gear icon and then going into sub menus. I’m pretty sure I could just save a preset. I wear glasses so it’s hard to see the screen in broad daylight. My initial impression is BC is slightly more intuitive and I’m not needing to use a flat film profile to later grade the footage for a vlogging on CZcams. I’m sure BC is working on 10 bit profiles, so for a 1.x release they have a solid app! One other note; BeastCam has a horizon guide and a tilt guide which I think will prove useful. On my joby gorilla pod it’s hard to level the camera. I would prefer to lock the shot down in production, then “screw with it in post,”. That’s a technical term. Haha. Shooting in 4K will allow you to reframe the composition, but I prefer to not SWIIP!

Nice video, the photo camera mode have the same features that the video mode? Focus, ISO, etc?

Thank you once again for this awesome tutorial! I've been using the Beastcam app ever since I saw you tutorial for my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I Love it!! In fact, I was going to get Filmic Pro as well but, I haven't found a reason to. I'm now considering the Rode Wireless Go II mic system. Do you know if that system is recognized by Beastcam? I want to make sure beforehand. Also, If you have a better mic suggestion, by all means feel free to mention it. Thanks again! Love your channel!! 👍😊
Thanks again for your comments. I do not have the Rode wireless, but I wish I did. Nonetheless, I can't imagine why it would not work with Beastcam. I certainly expect that it would. As for this channel, although I enjoy making videos here, I will no longer have the time. I'm afraid there most likely will be no further videos. However, I will be happy to respond to comments and questions like these when they appear. If you get the Rode wireless, please let me know how it goes for you. I have only heard good things.

Thanks for the video. I want to use BC for photo, but there is no photo presets (even no default settings) and the app launches always in video mode :(
Yes, that is unfortunate. Perhaps if BC receives enough requests for presents in camera mode, they will make an update. If you do still use BC for camera mode, you may want to toggle the settings option to save photos to camera roll. Otherwise you will only be able to access them in the app itself. Hope BeastCam gets proRes support. Can’t get any answer from them directly. Don’t know if it’s even something they are planning or not
Same here. But to stay competitive, they'll probably need to make that update. So I expect they'll be working on it soon if not already.
I download protake app from play store i have vivo y81. But when i open it shows unexpected error and tell that we will reset camera. Sorry for inconvenience. Pls help me sir🙏🙏🙏
How do you bring up the histogram?
The histogram should automatically display. However, in order to remove it from your screen, I believe your only option may be to toggle the "Hide interface on touch" option in the settings then tap your screen's display.
For me, the only reason am looking at Filmic Pro is the remote app. I want to record my piano performances and it's very frustrating to do that without a remote control. But Filmic Pro is very expensive with the in-app purchases in my country 😒😔🤔
A possible solution is to set up your phone to record so that you are properly framed in the video, press record, film yourself playing piano, then edit out and parts you do not like. You can even use the free editing option that canva.com offers if you do not have editing software.
@@MobileCinematics A month ago I tried what you suggested: I prepared note cards for audio and video recording take numbers to show to the screen for each take. I recorded my piano audio directly to my DAW (Logic Pro) via the line out then combine the audio and the video in Davinci Resolve. But a was not happy with the video quality because of the grainy/noisy footage and auto exposure and white balance changing several times that look unprofessional with the native iPhone camera app and my regular room lights.
Now I improve my lighting with a mid-budget solution of buying three small studio LEDs for my room. But when I'm not sitting on my piano chair I can't sure how to expose and focus myself correctly. My room is not so big and my iPhone 6S camera angle is not so wide either. I have to put my phone in the corner of the room to record myself and my piano in the same frame properly. So It's hard to reach the phone to look at the screen and control the phone because of my room conditions. That's why I need a remote and monitoring app for my iPad.

Hi Wayne. Thanks for the sub! So, when I go into the "Menu" (...) button at the top, then down to "Guides" and click the + button, I have five options (and a grayed out 'crop video' option). One of those is the aspect ratio you are looking for: 2.76:1. Try these things. 1.) restart your phone, 2.) make sure you have the latest update to Beastcam, take a look at this link for navigation. (The link is older and display older option but should help) (beastgrip.com/pages/support-center#/collection/1376/article/5793). If you still have an issue, let me know what phone you are using and is its OS updated.

@@wayneread1534 That's a strange one as it certainly is available on my phone. I've tried alternating setting as well but it is always present. You may like to go to the app store and after searching for the Beastcam app, write a review and ask for help. They seem to respond quickly. Otherwise you may want to contact their app support. Wish I could have been of more help here. And if you figure out what the issue is, let me know.

Is there a feature for external mic?
Hi Donald. Yes there is. Once you connect an eternal mic, you will have the option to engage that mic by clicking the microphone icon on the lower left side of the display then selecting it under "input." However, once you have plugged in your external mic, I believe this option will automatically engage.

What were your settings? Resolution, Frame rate, Bitrate, and audio format (AAC, PCM, AIFF)?

Hi Wayne. Funny that you ask. I am in the middle of creating a new video on Beastcam. I t will cover all setting in one video. And unfortunately, it seems there is no way to pause a video once recording. Hope that helps.

I have BeastCam. I use it on IPhone 11 Pro Max except I cannot use it. No matter what I do the image on the screen is upside down and reversed. Filmic, moment, and several other apps work just fine. Any ideas.
Hi Elliot. Have your checked your hardware settings? It you open the app and click on the 3 dots, you will see several option to choose from. One of them called "Hardware" may be the issue. Make sure none of those are selected, especially DOF.
