Love the positivity in all your videos, showing you can have a great hobby experience without selling a major organ or limb to finance. Plus the recent cosplays have been an extra bonus!
I havent painted in over a decade, bought this set for my birthday back in September, this video was extremely helpful, thank you so much
Working with what ye have is where a lot of us start and still are, so this is greatly appreciated both for the info and for the utter lack of condescension that many take.
I'm very impressed with the clarity and thoroughness of your instruction. You are a naturally skilled teacher. Thanks!
Absolutely loved the last colour scheme, but black and gold is always a good combination. ...And it matched the outfit 🤷♂
Great video for beginners. I liked the white one.
Breathtaking.❤
Naomi, this video gave me happy memories of when I was first starting out, a few years ago when Age of Sigmar was going from 2nd edition to 3rd edition. You were one of the first CZcamsrs I found, when I had no idea of who to look for, who really taught me the fundamentals of miniature painting, and I think newcomers are going to get a lot of great advice from this video, just as you gave back then.
As someone in these comments pointed out, I do like the mould-line remover that some of the "paints + tools" sets come with (12 paints, a brush, some clippers, and the mould-line remover, which for me personally makes me a lot less nervous than using a hobby knife does). But USD 35 is still pretty much what I paid for my first two boxes (Stormcast Eternals and Nighthaunts, each of which came with their own little sets of paint, and the Nighthaunts were ... for a learn-to-paint set, in my opinion inappropriately difficult to put together because of their unorthodox / "split down the middle" body construction), and I'm impressed that these sets still look like they're a pretty good value just for the six paints and the starter brush alone.
I'm still impressed that that starter brush is versatile enough to use as a drybrush without completely losing its ability to do layering afterward, though as you mentioned, I really wish that the texture paint and the overall box were more clear about not using a basic paintbrush to apply texture paint with if you want the brush to remain in good condition, and for six paints, the included Space Marines look really good. I was especially impressed with your white/black mini, particularly with the sky-blue color you blended for the winged crest. Thanks for the tip about thinning down the Abaddon Black so the edges look grey.
Thank you , Lady Naomi .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
Just bought this set. It will be my first experience with painting. Thank you for the video!
That's cool!
Awesome job!
This girl has much talent for to paint miniatures.
I love W40k and i love her black nails. 🤗👍
Love your content, you should narrate audio books, your voice is so relaxing :)
Kudos for sticking with that “less than ideal” brush 😀. Great to see how you still managed to create 2 additional color schemes from that simple pallet. I think the lighter of the three is my favorite. Thanks for sharing, and have a great day Naomi!
Those intros :D
The white-based scheme came out very nice, but the one you based as black came out looking surprisingly good, I think because of the way you used the brassy color to outline the trim.
Yeah they look fantastic ! I think I would have added drybrushed mix of black and white to create a lighter contrast for the black armor and a darker contrats the white one, but as a beginner tutorial it still looks amazing considering the limited number of paints ! 👌
Every time you release a video my will to paint comes back and one more squad goes under brush :D Just one squad of Kataphrons and papa himself waiting for their turn before getting fully painted adeptus mechanicus army. Keep up the good work and stay awesome!
I used this guide to help me paint my space marines. My first time painting and starting this hobby, your suggestions and information on the process was very much appreciated. I liked your box art space marine the most ha ha but also the white marine looked really neat too!
Thanks heaps for your help!
They all look great even though you had to use that nasty brush my favorite is the white color model great job as always please keep doing these videos you have the best attitude
Yey!❤
Cant wait the upcoming tyranid video and naomi using the one contrast paint to one gaunt and calling it done 😂
Informative and wow ya look stunning۔ Such razzle۔۔۔۔ such dazzle۔
Love the black and gold! Beautiful job!
Just picked up this box for my first step into WH. Loved this video! Instant subscriber
OMg Mind blown. linking 2 citadel paint sticks. :) brb
Great guide with lots of good tips! I really enjoyed the last color scheme!
Great job! Yes crappy brushes are painful to use. Heck, I love them all! ❤ 😅
ty as always
Loved this video, been looking at getting into 40k painting and this has given me the confidence to go a get this pack, if the end result is half as good as yours I will be very happy
The white & black Ultramarines are cool. The white marine I'm imagining as some sort of ice-world or winter campaign colour scheme. Whereas, the black marine I'm getting either Deathwatch or 30K Legion Destroyer squad vibes. Good work!
Great job... i think i prefer the white
Great video. I love your creativity. I actually really liked the white one. I like Corax White a lot. It's got good coverage and it's not a really overly stark bright white. I honestly dislike these kits though I appreciate what you did with what you had. They annoy me because you always end up with odd numbers of Marines 😂
It's cool that the paint is included abbadon boooooooo. Ultra Marines!
I love these.
3. has a simplified Deathwatch vibe
The last one looked best, to me.
the white one i love it
Another option to a hobby knife is if you have varying grades of sandpaper (and patience) you can also file the cast marks and sprue joins flush with the models, I did it and it took a long time but I wasn't in a rush, just a tip (Y)
Good video idea
The white one reminds me of the White Consuls.
How is your skin so flawless! Nice work.
Wow , what a Beauty , and she loves the Hobby . So w love her ;D .
She's roping us in reliably with these thumbnails every time fellow men of culture. We know what you're doing.... don't stop.
That's a cool idea for a video
A 14 year old (pre-videos on the internet) me could have done with watching it
The Gold paint named after Balthasar Gelt. 👍
Anyone can plz tell me what are the dimensions of the marine model? Are there starter sets with bigger models?
nice tattoo
Any new White Dwarf videos coming? Haven’t seen one in quite a while and they’re very enjoyable.
Hey! I recently picked up this set to get me started into painting and Warhammer in general. Are these models the same size as other standard models? If I got a combat patrol for example are they the same size as these?
Yes, they would be the same size :)
Do you used primer or you operate only set included ?
I'm in a bit of a struggle. I have two jars full of Balthasar gold and a huge load of unpainted space marines. I want to do the ultramarines, but do not have the retributior gold. I have three already painted with the Balthasar gold, although it looks more like brass/copper. I kind of like the design, but I'm worried about doing it wrong by committing to the Balthasar.
There is nothing wrong about using Balthasar instead :)
No one would fault your Ultramarines for that. The colour scheme is suggested, never inforced :)
Plus yours can be simply be a Subchapter of Ultramarines, which don't necessarily follow the main chapter's colour scheme at all and that would fit right into the lore :)
Cute voice. Im not sure what you think about that brush though, do you love it?
i like 33 space marine
I love you!
Did you make that necklace or the woman that makes jewelry in your shop?
In this video? That's a 3-D printed piece that will be attached to a 3-D printed bolt gun in due time ^_^
Black rose one?
Good to see you getting back to basics and showing what can be done with a (deep) pocket money kit.
How long does it take for the paint to dry, i am starting to make my warhammer miniatures but i do not know how much it will take
These dry more matte, so you can tell when it no longer looks wet, that they have dried enough for you to move on to the next step :) And if you are unsure, just give them another fifteen minutes, or half hour, and you`ll be good to go. Sometimes they are dry within minutes!
💚💚💚💚
Is it ok if i prime the model first or its ok to use the paint straight from the pot?
It's always better to use a primer first, but SOME of the paint can be used right out of the pot. If it beads on the plastic though, you'll have trouble getting it to stick! A trick then would be to apply your Shade all over the plastic, let dry (it doesn't matter what it looks like because you'll be covering it all up anyway) and THEN use the paint you originally wanted to use to base the model :)
@@swordnsteele712 interesting method of using a shade as a proxy. Since the shade is quite sticky after it dries it would act as an adhesive for the base paint. Thank you
Hey, do you have to prime the figures before painting? Will the paint still stick if i dont use a primer?
It's always best to use a primer first.
Some paints will still stick, but priming is the best and you should try to get comfy doing so :)
Just remember not to let the mini look wet when you're priming. Better to do a couple or three thin coats than to go overboard on the first coat and lose details!
@@swordnsteele712see, i just bought this same kit the other day to get started with the hobby and i didnt even know you'd need a primer. Ive built the marines but im scarwd to paint it without a primer, would it be okay to try painting without one? Would i be doing it wrong?
You can try without one :)
If it beads and doesn't stick to the plastic at all, just dunk the mini in your water pot till the fresh paint comes off, let it dry, and try with one of the other colours
Use the method I show in this video for applying a base colour all over the miniature as the method to prime the mini 👍
@@swordnsteele712 thank you so much you've been very helpful
Steele Knights! So...what are the better brushes?
For detail, my personal favourite is the Army Painter Kolinsky Masterclass. I also enjoy size 2 da Vinci Maestro or something similar for overall use, and for new painters like to suggest the trio brush pack The Army Painter offers called The Most Wanted set 🤔
@@swordnsteele712 thank you! I picked up the Most Wanted and will be trying them this weekend.
So can I paint my miniatures without primer? I painted my first space marines without primer and they look great but I have seen many videos on CZcams that recommend doing it, what should I do?
Generally, primer helps stick the paints to the plastic, but there are some paints that you can get away with without primer, as you witnessed. You don't have to worry about your first marines--they're done!--but you will discover in time that some paints will not stick to the plastic as easily, and that is what the primer is for. :)
@@swordnsteele712 Thank you very much for solving my doubt 😁😁
I hate it when brushes go kinky at the end, and yes I know how to store them. They just seem to go like that after a few weeks of use even if you are diligent about cleaning and storing them right.
Personally I think the back of the hobby knife does not work as good as a mould line remover... Mould line remover has a nice relatively thick piece of metal with zero flex to it... The back of the hobby knife is quite flexibly and will bend and you put pressure the model using it. For me, in my experience, it simply feels like I don't have as much control with the hobby knife... Also I find the hobby knife back to be a little sharper on the corner edge on the back of the knife than the corner edges or a mould line remover... I prefer the slighyly more blunted edges of the mould line remover.
That said the 25$ or 30$ pricetag of GW's mould line remover is absolute horse doo doo.
Sounds like you need better blades... try zona blades
Christ that'll do
Damn naomi u are so Beautiful as Goth
Could have just dipped the tip of the brush in boiled water to straighten it rather than cutting it. But each to their own
BE STILL MY HEART 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
🖤🖤🤍💙🖤🖤
;)
.... merry me! please?
Using ONLY... proceeds to use spary colour... duuuumbbbbb
Holding the primer spray like that is not what to do. Quick jets of primer moving left to right or w/e direction. Holding it like that is a sure way to over prime.
Not in the wind I was dealing with :)
