The Mighty Westsail - there is something about a cutter rig

Jason was kind enough to have me back on board his Westsail 32, Morning Sun. It is always a pleasure sail on Morning Sun and learn from a pro. There is just something about a cutter rig under sail. Especially one that has actual belaying pins!

Thanks for watching and the kind comments! The westsail was a friend's boat. He has since sold it. But it was a great boat. And they are true ocean crossers when properly maintained and equipped. But they have a lot of wood and require a fair amount of maintenance. I think they are more work to sail and they are not as comfortable as my boat. But I always enjoyed sailing it and I am partial to a cutter rig. Figure out what kind of sailing you are going to do. And by the boat you both like the looks of and that does the job. Do you need an f150 with some creature comforts or an f350 work truck.

I’ve dreamed of owning a Westsail 32 every since reading Ferenc Mate’s From a Bare Hull some forty-plus years ago. Guess I’d better hurry before another forty years slips away. A true sailboat.

the westsail 32 to is truly a robust boat and although Morning Sun is not my boat, I thought she sailed very well. And any time you are sailing a cutter rigged boat with belaying pins, you are really sailing! 😊

Also read Ferenc's book in the mid 70's and dreamt of getting a WS. Met Ferenc and Candace at their vineyard in Tuscany in 2019 and last year bought our WS - hull 77, Arctic Loon. Absolutely love the boat!!
