@Chris H You need a good lens, sure. But I wouldn't say you need the specific lens I used.
How’s this camera for night scenes?
UglyMcGregor what lens was this?
How do the default lens work? I'm wondering if black magic used any lens in their marketing page of pocket cam? Can you tell me?
@@UglyMcGregor so which lens are you using ? Thanks
Now this is a true 'film look', unlike the so-called cinematic videos out there. Muted colours but a dense look, good skin tones, well controlled highlights, good shadow detail without crushing the blacks.
do you know why it looks so 'dense'? It definitely has a fuller, softer quality to the film. Whereas, the Fuji Xt3, while I love the colorspace, remains too sharp, and seems more digital looking. This footage is really unrivaled from what I've seen for that film look, But from a usability perspective, I much prefer the Fuji. I'm wondering if there is any way to achieve this look in post with the Fuji?
@@ryansulak Not sure why, it might have something to do with the combination of sensor, bitrate and codec of the P4K. You've probably noticed that RED Epic files have a density that a lot of other cameras lack, too. This isn't a RED but there's a sense of 'thickness' to the image which I'm not seeing in cams like the XT3, like you say.
It's because it's RAW
I agree 😂
@@ryansulak i've seen some tests for XT3 where they turned down sharpness, highlights, etc all the way and opened the shadows. All while using the Eterna profile and it looks quite nice. but of course it comes down to lenses and there's just something about blackmagic that hasn't been matched for that film look I feel.
To me, this straight-up looks like a Hollywood movie. The mood, the music, the image quality; you nailed everything. IMPRESSIVE WORK. The hot highlights are the only thing that gives it away, and it's just the limitations of the sensor. God bless!
Yeah. Beautiful photography.
I think it looks better than any current movies or TV which use, ironically, more advanced and expensive cameras and formats.
Best looking shots of anything I’ve seen from this camera thus far. Beautiful work, awesome grade.
I agree
I totally agree. The bulk of stuff I've seen so far is banal.
I'm 20 seconds in and..... I'm speechless. What a stunning camera. I feel like I'm actually watching a movie! Great job!
Beautifully shot and graded my man, you've really demonstrated the full potential "cinematic look" this camera can achieve. Keep up the good work!
This also goes to show that great, framing, composition, music, and editing complete the package. So emotional. So brilliant. Excellent.
The dynamic range you are getting in these shots is insane! Seriously these are some incredible shots! Great work!
Best BMPC4K footage I've seen! The camera movements and color grading are on-point! Truly cinema quality.
Thanks!
Absolutely stunning footage! Right up there with RED and Arri!
"It's not the camera, It's the talent behind it"
it is just not talent, it's the actual camera too. Each camera has a specific look. Everything you have is an extension of your body. Would you throw away your arm. Don't think of a camera as thing you can just throw away. That's why DPs and directors chose certain cameras, lens, etc.
@@christophershivers6257 But... If you don't know how to use a camera you won't get the same results.
+ThaSkully i never said that you didn't need talent, of course you need to learn how to use a camera lol. However, when people think that all I need is talent then they think gear doesn't matter. I have heard youtubers say, oh dont worry about your lens that doesn't matter, or dont worry about the camera that doesn't matter. or dont worry about the lights that doesn't matter. Which all of them does matter, because each one gives you a different look
@@christophershivers6257 yea of course. Just know how to use them is all im saying.
I also think the word "talent" belittles the expertise behind it. It's not like people just wake up and know how to do it. They have gained so much knowledge and practice over the years ....it's skill.
Watching cinematic videos like this is so therapeutic and calming to the heart.
Glad you enjoy it!

For this type of footage, what media storage would you recommend? At your resolution and compression would a T5 Samsung 500-1TB SSD suffice? If so, how long can I expect it to last minute-wise? Thanks again for the great content!
The website is down since a couple weeks, when is it coming back?
website is down, wouldn't mind paying few dollars for a guide to this.
One of the most important questions haven't been answered :) What media storage did you use to achieve this quality of the recording? It seems to be a problem finding that perfect SD or CFast card to record in 4K DCI Lossless. Looking forward to your reply.
So many comments regarding price and image quality.
Really the images come from your perspective and overall workflow, you did a great job on this piece!
This footage is art! It produces so much emotion. Incredible work
Great example of the dynamic range--and echoing other comments in your talented work
I have watched hundreds of videos of BMPCC4k footage, And not only is this one of my favorite videos (If not my very favorite) It led to me buying the same lens. I don’t own a speed booster and even though the sigma 18-35 does look sharp, it always has this weird gold tan color over the top of everything that no one seems to talk about (no matter what video I see). This video looks way more true to life and feels more like I’m looking through a window then something computer-generated or heavily color graded. Love this look!
Stunning work! Man. Had me choked up. Well done!
These images are so beautiful! JUst watched it again!
You did amazing bro. This is truly beautiful!
5 years later, this video is still looking IMPRESSIVE. It looks gorgeous and shows what a revolutionary beast the Pocket 4K was and still is.
Only when shooting CDNG. This wasn't blackmagic raw.
Wow, I already own this camera and a similar Panasonic lens, but this test makes me want to go out and buy it all over again. Truly, beautiful work.
lol
That chair shot is stunning! excellent work!
Top piece of work, thoughtfully put together, very well done it certainly demonstrates the capabilities of the kit.
This proves that a true film look doesn't require shallow depth of field
LOL
It doesn't require low contrast, either. Both myths!
@johnny walker Bokeh is an artificial, overused gimmick that doesn't occur in human vision, even when focusing on an object 3 inches away. If you're using Bokeh in place of good storytelling, your filmmaking skills are brokeh. If this is just about directing audience attention, you can do that with selective (noir?) lighting, staging, and color.
there's nothing wrong about extreme DoF. It's nice and simple way to get a "true film look"
The whole shallow DOF craze is a scourge. You hardly EVER see true shallow DOF in many movies - and when its used, it's used to tell a story. You only tend to see a ton of shallow DOF in 'cinematic test videos' on CZcams. Thankfully, this video didn't fall into the trap... It used the shallow DOF sparingly, and that makes it stand out when its used - in a good way - like at 2:47 in the clip.
omg bro you are one of the few who made a cinema 4k, with all others I have left and right bars. in that case you have coded correctly
these shots are just beautiful!!
At any points I felt like I was in the cinema. Great work man. Keep it up.
Excellent footage. Both the camera and your skill are to be applauded.
Great video. I'm just a guy who always loved making videos with no schooling, just a 10 day film course, I'm actually saving for this camera and plan to buy it in January, this video has inspired me to travel and find exotic locations and capture them, among other content i hope to create, loved your video, again thanks for sharing.
Really nice man, love the colours. Such a cool camera to shoot with.
Very nice! Care to explain a bit about the grading besides the grey shots?
No he does not
You should do a video showing how you graded this. looks amazing

my man...I subscribed because of this video. Dope work!
this was amazing. oh my gosh that shot at 2:08 was beautiful!
Love the blend of hand held and Tripod, well done
Agreed!
I've just watched this again. Excellent work. Really.
Is this really a $1300 camera or $13,000?!!!........Excellent Work!
1300 for real
Actually 1300 dollars for the camera, BUT and there is a BUT: you need to buy all the material for working the picture after you had filmed, post-production, hard disk to contain RAW files, and finally it becomes very veryyyyy expansive...
@@bernardgiovani958 Not really.
@@bernardgiovani958 It's not thaaat much more expensive, really. A decent lens, maybe a cage and handle, an SSD, and you get DaVinci Resolve for free with the camera, so you can grade and edit there.
@@Avratin I learned a bit about this camera those past days and I have to admit that there are some things for and some things against. It seems quite interesting but anyway, no camera even the RED can make miracles. The only thing above the machine a cameraman needs is his ability. Why not, I don't know...
Best sample video of a camera I've ever seen, amazing editing, WOW!
Thanks!
I Love the quality of the video but there is definitely a story being told here. That's the sign of a good film maker....bravo.
Thanks
I still come back and watch this video months later, due to how impactful this is. I truly feel emotion through your imagery.. Through the lighting, composition, color grade and palette, and incredible scenery. Unbelievable work.
Unreal dude. Waiting for any kind of notification for this camera to ship is absolutely EXCRUCIATING. Great work, easily the best shots I've seen for this camera. definitely subscribed!
When did u order
I feel your pain
I have never been convinced by any advertisement and whatnot to buy a product of this price class. You have just managed to do that with this beautiful film. I got a MFT Photocamera (Olympus OM-d EM10) which takes beautiful pictures but the filming mode sucks. And now I can take my lenses from my Olympus and create this... damn.
Great work. I really love the last clip.
After seeing this, I really want one.
Your color grading is so good!
woow amazing selection of scenes, luv it !
beautiful grading also.
probably the best footage I've seen anywhere...that with some stabilizers, you will have a killer production set
Thanks Timmy!
absolutely stunning work and perfect music.
This looks incredible! Can you tell us more about how you graded the footage? A breakdown of everything you did in Resolve would be greatly appreciated!
Haha me tooooo
This Video has made my decision to upgrade to the BMPCC...
Great work 👍🏽
same :D

Beautiful! Definitely has the cinematic look and feel.
i cryed. the quality of this thing...... mind blowing, emotional
This is very creative in terms technical way of how much u actually pulled out of this pocket camera...
This camera captures breathless visuals and the person who has captured it has done an amazing job!
Thanks
Amazing work man! Would like to see some Color grading tutorials from you too.
Beautiful in all ways! Thanks for sharing!
This is one of a few videos here in CZcams that is a true cinematic. Thank you, your videos are healing.
Wow, very beautiful grading. And very nice composition!
So cool. So beautiful. Great works!
Just finding this. Wow. This footage is crazy clean looking & you seem to use it well. I'd watch your films.
Lovely work, thank you for posting.
Aww so beautiful that I can't find proper words! Mate, you nailed it) I'll watch one more time
Feels like you're killing it keep it up!
Beautiful location. Awesome images. Perfect grading.
This was amazing to watch. Also thank you for saving me money, this will be my next camera.
thank you for not uploading this footage in 720p. you are appreciated.
This is awesome footage. Thinking about getting the black magic pocket 4k.
Really love the footage! Did you use some kind of stabilizators?
Im guessing it looks this great because of ur editing abilities? The color grade is outstanding
Absolutely phenomenal!
very cool! i really think Blackmagic footage has its own look and I mean this across all their cameras. Really good look for music videos and commercials. Hope to buy one of these cameras in the next few months.
Beautiful.
Thank you! Cheers!
Cinematic with suitable bgm also very important! Great work sir
Great visuals. The music really helped sell it.
I totally can feel this film. This is so beautiful.
This my first time on your channel..Great inspiring work!..Thank you for this..New Sub.
Wow! Well done sir! With the just the lumix lens too!! Wow! :)
Amazing coloring job. just amazing.
Great stuff what lens did you use get this look so great and did you use any luts when editing?
Beautiful dude. Really keen to check out this cam.
This is awesome, now I want one!
good video. I was expecting to be blown away from the quality.
It might be just a test but man you got a very special eye, it's lovely.
Looks beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
Incredible work. Very inspiring. Do you have the camera in a shoulder rig or is that just handheld? Have you considered flying it on a gimbal?
Beautiful work. Beautiful quality. Beautiful camera
That grade is bananas bro
Very nice!!! I have this camera too and u did some outstanding work with it. Just wondering if the vingetting was added after or was it from the lens? It had a very nice vignette on the wide angle shots!!
that was amazing. Was there any color grading done?
Lovely colors. I don't care what anyone says. I like the color science of the BMPCC4K.
This. Incredible, poignant work. Beautifully shot and amazing work on soundtrack and sound design
Thank you!
Love it! Love the film grain too!
Love this alongside the music choice.
Awesome video!! I’m wondering; is there a lapel mic that can attach to this camera?
Great video, man! How was your experience manually focusing with the 12-35 on the BMPCC4K?
Bout to get my pocket in a few hours! Can't wait! Question tho, do you use a speedbooser, if so, which one, and can you control your aperture and focus through the cam?
Amazing footage!
