Mandy is tops in my opinion. Outstanding, articulate instructor. So knowledgeable and the most fun personality I have seen out of all your wonderful guests! Invite that girl back!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I had a lot of fun being on the show!
I am going to replay this and paint along. Mandy you explained beautifully. Thank you so much. Really insightful. Great sense of humor too!
Thanks for joining me for this demo!
Mandi is such a joyful teacher. I love her laugh too. She demonstrated the idea of poster painting beautifully. Thank you. 🇨🇦❤️Claire

Amazing Mandy. Loved the way to explained the white idea 🙏👏👏👏well done.
I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson!
Mandy did a great job! Loved the instruction!👍👍👍!
Thank you! There is another class on Art School Live that I was a guest for, I hope you look it up :)
Loved both and will pass along to my students.thank you!
Great idea to cut up old books. I have a ton of used art books that I bought for a dollar!
Yes there are great images that you can learn from tucked away in those books!
Very informative! Thanks
Thanks for coming!
Excellent info on poster study. Thank you Mandy.
You are very welcome!
Love her teaching! Thank you Mandy.
Thanks for coming today!
Mandy is fantabulous
Wonderful ❤Thank you Mandy you are an awesome teacher.
Thank you! My background as a licensed art teacher really helps :)
Mandy is very personable, a born teacher with knowledge to match!
I don't use mixers, but do make my own sun-bleached stand oil. I solve the spontaneous fire problem by using paper towels and throwing them directly into the wood burner in the room. Even if it is summer and there is no fire on, it will not matter if it combusts.
I think poster studies go back to the 1930s when the art deco movement became popular in railway posters etc.... it gave more "blocks" of simplified colours.
Thank you for the kind words. Please be careful burning paint towels, toxic fumes could be a problem depending on what pigments you are using. I’m not a scientist and safety is ultimately your responsibility as the painter, but please look into it to make sure you are being safe ❤
Loved watching the palette string mixing :)
Yes, having a system for your palette is key!
Wow love this, very informative. Thank you Eric
Great lesson and an even better job holding her own up to Eric's teasing!
Hahaha yes, it’s a delight to banter with Eric 😊
Thanks Mandy! ❤
Learned so much. Thank you
Thank you for coming 🎉
I’m in Many’s online Atelier program a few months now. I’ve been painting for a while but am learning so much! I’m so glad I started to study with her! She is knowledgeable, experienced, fun! and invested in my success.
Thank you for the kind words Margriet!
Where the info about the Atelier program?
System System… for those of us with ADD… this might be the ticket! Thanks
Great job mandy
Thank you very much for coming!
Well, I do the same, but I’ve always been a closet cutter due to being shamed for defacing a book. I absolutely love books, and lugged big heavy books around for years before getting up the nerve to start a binder of ‘cut out’ images of wonderful art. Thank you, Mandy for bringing me out of the closet!!😅
lol it took me a long time to fess up to it too… glad to find another in our community :)
According to the internet, about 320 MILLION books end up in the landfill each year, approx. 800,000 tons of books! I would guess a fair amount from library sales. You are saving those wonderful images from the landfill.
I was just thinking about this for a few month whether to copy someone's art to improve mine or not. Now I have got the answer. Thank you very much 🙏
Love this!
Thanks for joining us today!
Fantastic! Learned so much!
Thank you so much Mandy and Eric, I might take a leaf out of your book Mandy and take a page out of mine 😂❤
lol I love this for you. ❤
Great lesson! Thank you Mandy. Now I want to do some small studies in this manner, for value and form. Thanks Eric for your great Guest Teachers🤗…watching from Virginia!
I would love to see them!
Great job, love the painting.
Enjoyed and very informative .
Just awesome!
I rushed back to see day two with Mandy and Eric!! And cutting out of an art book…. Ok…. Just paste them back on and create a new story from the book!!
Thanks for coming back and sorry you had to learn something so terrible about me! I do love books I promise. I just like painting more… ❤
Enjoined it
🎉 nice demo on color theory
Thanks for joining us!
Wonderful.
I❤this what a happy and great teacher. Thanks😊.
Learned a lot today Mandy! Great work!
Thanks so much, glad you could join us!
Buying cheap good quality art magazines and art books is something I do for cutting up. Often I find duplicates so one copy can be added to my library if it is a book I love. Great idea!
That's a great idea! You can even cut up my magazines... which beats throwing them out :-)
I agree, a photo (in the book) of a painting shows a BIG IDEA, but unfortunately doesn´t depict actual color, true to the original painting. I often take a book, when visiting an exhibition at the museum, and I write down (around the printed images) with arrows pointing at the parts of print how the color compares to the original paintings. It never does. It is too warm or too cold, too red or too green... and so on. My notes in books and in catalogs help me remember how the original paintings really felt. Anyhow - thanks for an excellent lesson. Greetings from Stockholm, Sweden.
I was taught to get a natural.. add blue and red first then add yellow then white..to get mother colour grey
Yes, there are many methods to achieving a neutral. Chromatic neutrals are just one way.
Hi again today Mandy and Eric! Watchin' from Idaho!
Hello again to you too!
Mandy is fabulous!
Watching from South Africa..
That's a great idea
Learned a lot with using white….dont know if I comprehend are mixing of the different colors, since I cant see the reds and purples as she’s described. But thats on me - she’s amazing.
The class from yesterday goes into details about whites, you should check it out!
Hello from Arizona
That was great! Too bad she was rushed. Although it did come through as a white cup/saucer!!!❤👍🏻🎨
Thank you for the kind words. Next time I’ll ask Eric for two hours and still go over because I like to explain so much. :)
Hey Mandy… your previous video encouraged us to use Lead White .. but now you’re using Titanium White…. ?
Great question. Although I prefer using lead white in my personal paintings, I always use Titanium White when teaching and giving demos so that people can more easily follow along at home and to avoid the difficulties associated with using lead white in a teaching setting.
Is she mixing paint with a medium?
No, I try to never add mediums to my paint.
2 UFO
Mandy Mandy you didnt 😊
lol I did…
Im outraged! They really encourage this sort of sacrilidge on university art courses for the sake of collages.
At least you're making a pretty picture from it though.
Can I just say all printers are high quality enough to show these big ideas you're looking for!
P.s I'd forgive Mandy Theis for anything, isnt she lovely.
lol your comment made me smile, thanks for sharing and I understand how polarizing my suggestion might be 😂
Please just paint 😏
Eric, I have watched dozens of your you tube shows. I challenge you to listen to how you talk to three female artists and then listen to how you talk to three male artists. Notice anything?
Top lesson!
