    Thanks for doing this vid. I know I myself was prodding you during the FDH live chats for this info and enjoyed seeing how you shot your season.

      No problem, I enjoyed making it. I know a lot of people are always curious about how other people are doing things (myself included) so I don't mind sharing.

    A good option is the gopro wireless remote. Its waterproof and works up to 100m away. I use mine with an external battery and it works quite well. It definitely drains the battery a lot faster so having those extra was wasabis is very handy.

    Excellent video. Keep it up!

    Nice video, Just found your channel. I am new to filming/making videos. I have been using the loop feature on my GoPro 3 & 3+. You can set it to save the last few minutes of video. I set it for 5 minutes and when something happens hit the record button to stop recording. The GoPro saves the last 5 minutes in one minute clips. I find it makes editing much easier.

    Watching in 2020. Solo hunt elk run and gun in late rifle season, so a lot of gear glassing (weight). Impossible to carry too much camera gear like the pro hunting shows with dedicated cameraman, so your set up is inspiring in what I haven't been doing. This video would've been much better if you could incorporate some B rolls when you talk about your angle set up, in the back, in front, limited space, etc.

    Good tips! I have a couple Go Pro knock offs that do a pretty decent job. I am going to be recording most of my hunts this year (duck, deer and turkey) as well as lots of fishing videos. Due to time of year, fishing videos are coming first of course and I should have my first full fishin video up this week! Glad to get some tips on set up for duck hunting!

      I use some knock offs as well. Good luck! Sounds like your channel will be similar style too mine.

      Waterfowl and Fly Fish what brand of knock offs did you get? i went the Apeman route.

      AKASO EK7000 is my latest favorite. Is probably about as good as the hero 4 in my opinion.

      Waterfowl and Fly Fish that is one I looked at too. I don't know a ton about cameras but have no complaints thus far with Apeman.

      I may have to look into some of those cheaper cameras just to add some more angles.

    Nice job, Drake. Do you notice the windscreen cover on wide angle when you shoot video? Or did you have to make any mods to keep it out of view? My most recent video is a fishing video. I have a couple duck hunting videos on my channel, and some deer scouting stuff. I know you've seen some of it.

    • @DrakeValleyOutdoors
      @DrakeValleyOutdoors  Před 7 lety +1

      On wide angle, yes the wind screen will be in the camera's view. I never run it on anything more than medium FOV unless I'm using a chest/head cam. When I'm using those, I have a different mic.
      On a windy day, sometimes the windscreen will get knocked into view. All around the base of the mic, there are notches for the cable to clip into. If you pull the cable tight and clip it in, it will hold it out of view.

    @DuckGunChronicles Před 7 lety

    Good stuff man! I might have too try some of those options for my setup. I use the extra battery phone charger as well.. but you don't need an extra cord.. you can just use the cord that you would use to plug your gopro into your pc. Keep up the good work!

    • @DrakeValleyOutdoors
      @DrakeValleyOutdoors  Před 7 lety

      The problem with using the charging cable, is that you lose the ability to use the microphone. I forgot to mention that being the reason I was looking at the other cable.
      If I add more cameras to my lineup for some other angles, I would probably just use that option, but for the main camera on the tripod I want to be able to capture good audio.

    • @DuckGunChronicles
      @DuckGunChronicles Před 7 lety

      ah ya. I don't use a mic so I didn't think of that. I do believe that you can use the hdmi mini port to charge while using the other for the mic.. but I'm not 100 percent on that.. more testing is required haha

  • @SomewhereInWisconsin
    @SomewhereInWisconsin Před 6 lety

    Drake. Can't wait for your bigger duck vids. Quick note for you. You mentioned that sound from the RODE video micro isin't good from behind the mic. I've been using that mic for awhile now, but came across another microphone that I tried out this weekend on our opener. It's fairly inexpensive and catches audio from all directions. I thought it worked well. Thought you could use your rode video micro on your new camera and give this one a try. I could send you a sample clip if you are interested as well. I used it all weekend and thought it worked well.

    • @DrakeValleyOutdoors
      @DrakeValleyOutdoors  Před 6 lety

      Yeah, sure send me a clip. I'd be interested in hearing it. The issue I have right now is that the usb port on my GoPro is messed up, so the mic disconnects very easily and will not record any audio at all.

      Drake Valley Outdoors okay. I'll send it to your Instagram account. A little easier.

    What do you think about the new Gopro fusion for videoing duck hunts

    • @DrakeValleyOutdoors
      @DrakeValleyOutdoors  Před 6 lety

      I really don’t know much about that camera. First I heard of it was from your comment. I looked it up and it seems like something you could use, it just depends on what you are wanting to do. I think it could work pretty cool for setting out in the decoys and getting 360 degree view, and then use that overcapture thing to track the ducks as they come in and get more angles than a traditional GoPro would allow.

      @DrakeValleyOutdoors  Před 7 lety

      Yeah, I have a couple things that I'd like to review. I also need to revisit the gloves I talked about last year. I also plan on getting a few items that they just released this year, but those won't be available to purchase till July-ish. Anything in particular you are looking for?

    You should give these tips to freelance duck hunting because their filming really sucks they don't deserve their subscribers. You do a much much better job keep the good film coming

    • @DrakeValleyOutdoors
      @DrakeValleyOutdoors  Před 7 lety +3

      +Peat Bear I appreciate the encouragement and kind words. However, I do disagree with your comments on Freelance's videos. Elliott makes great videos and definitely deserves his subscribers. He does a great job at capturing the interactions between all the hunters in his group, and I very much envy that part of his videos and in my opinion that is a much bigger part of hunting than the kill shots. We've both talked with each other about different ways we can both improve on our videos for the next season. I will definitely keep making the videos and still have a lot of room to improve myself! Thank you again.
