I realize the adrenaline is squirting out fighters ears but has there ever been one of these events where dude or dudette is obviously knocked out or at least can no longer defend themselves and the winning fighter just stops hitting the person on the ground? As cop, medic, contractor and an intense period of martial arts training years ago I do know that in any kind of fight the worse damage can be done when the head can not move or rebound and takes the absolute full force of the punch.
Have seen several fights where the ref let many punches continue after one fighter down and out. Some deaths or permanent injuries resulted. Not dissin anyone just expect any true warrior to know, if object is not to kill, when opponent is out and fight is over. As LE we were are required by law to stop the punch. The lack of this discipline is big reason we have many problems in our country at this time. I have suffered some backlash by pushing for, it's not de-escalation but the teaching and control to stop that punch a half inch from contacting opponent if necessary.
Anyone can punch someone else, especially if other person helpless. How many can NOT punch.
I apologize for long boring comment. 67yr old fighter on many fields after many traumas, cancers, etc. Today I have 32nd surgery in over 40yrs of this, a "simple" eye surgery. Tonight I am blind in that eye. Temporarily, hopefully.
Like gettin hit while I'm down, don't want to go out like this. Was hoping, and in shape despite, or because of years of fighting back after starting over physically, that had a few years of usefulness left.
I will never ask for sympathy but I would ask, if anyone ever reads this, to consider the unnecessary punch, perhaps even bullet, if you have already won. To count coup is worth more honor back in the village.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". Edmund Burke
