      It is strength AND technique. If you squeeze your fingers right as you hit the Shuttle, you can gain a lot of power.

      I think it is because CTC is good at not letting his opponent predict what the next shot is going to be. He can also pin the line with his smashes quite well

    Dude is RIPPED. He definitely had more energy than SYQ too, probably why he won. At many points I could tell that SYQ was the superior player in terms of experience and match IQ (especially first set), but lanier just pushed through with high shot speed and insane volume. Great win, he definitely worked really hard for it. Hope he keeps it up when people adapt more to his playstyle and are more rested!

    AL had advantage of being underestimated by opponents as he is still quite unknown. Now all coaches will break down his game and lo and behold, he lost in next tournament Korean Open.

      Its not really fare to compare WS and MS ..the competition is very different in bith disciplines..its not like MS doesnt have talented players but its like too many good players in top 20 which is not really like for WS making it more predictable and easy to dominate and the competition only revolves among top 5 in WS and its not the case in MS

    An issue in the first set was that Lanier was playing too much lifts and clears to Shi's backhand side. Shi scored 6 points in the first set with around the head smashes, but Lanier didnt give him nearly as many opportunities in the rest of the match. Also Shi Yu Qi didnt play bad by any means, but he was not stellar either, pretty sure CTC would have won against him

      No but in the past there were many youngsters who were doing upsets when they came into international circuit and had better technical skills than him and they still faced inconsistencies later on ..
      Obviously he should ideally be improving his skills later on but its completely on him
