  • The CX-5 is Mazda's top selling vehicle! Under the hood is a 2.5L turbocharged inline4 that is producing 250HP & mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Grand Touring Reserve has unique exterior styling but it's the interior where it really shines. Upgraded materials and a high level of fit and finish separate this compact SUV from the rest of the competition! Is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve the perfect compact SUV?

    My pal drives one of these and he drove me around while I sat in the passengers seat. This car not only had top tier interior&exterior quality, but its acceleration was so smooth it didn`t slow down even going up a steep hill. It really made me want to get a Mazda vehicle.

    Speaking of the Bangles, Suzanna Hoffs was a babe. Getting back to the review, the CX-5 is a very nice vehicle. The interior of the car is probably the best for all the SUVs in its class. The exterior doesn’t look like an SUV. It looks like a swollen hatchback. $36,000 is not too shabby for this vehicle. However when I go the Mazda website I get closer to a $40,000 MSRP for their top trim with all the bells and whistles. Excellent review young man!!!

      All Mazdas can run on regular octane fuel, even turbo engines. For the turbo engines, the torque remains the same regardless of premium or regular fuel used but the HP is about 25 HP more if using premium fuel. As far as I know, just regular tires come on new Mazdas. No run-flats.

    Joe, I’ve always liked the Soul Red with the Sand interior.
    A Zonk for me is when they moved the infotainment up and out of the dash. The Kia Sportage has the perfect layout.
    On the front grille, the very top protrudes out beyond where a bumper would be. You accidentally rear end someone, that front is a goner. No semblance of a front bumper at all. Totally sacrificial. Insurance rates?

      I can tell you how much it costs if somebody hits your rear end. A few years ago, somebody backed into my 17 Mazda6 rear bumper @ 0 mph. $5,000 to fix. The BSM sensors are $600/EA and Mazda needs a special calibration tool to properly align said sensors. That same BSM is in my CX-5. I was told a shopping cart blowing in the wind could theoretically cause the same damage to the bumper as a person hitting it with their vehicle. It's very fragile. I'm very careful around obstacles and I park in the back row....

  • @Digitalfiendscom
    @Digitalfiendscom Před 4 lety +1

    We just picked up a '20 CX-5 Signature for my wife to replace our '11 Forester. We're die hard Subaru owners but their switch to CVTs just doesn't work for us (all of our cars have been manuals up to this point). We were *super* impressed by the CX-5. Mazda wouldn't have been on our radar if it wasn't for CZcams vids like these.
    My criteria was that the replacement for the Forester had to have more power, leather seats, AWD, and a nicer interior. The CX-5 was competing on our short-list with the Outback XT, which got scratched off the list due to the CVT, the RDX, and the Audi Q3 and BMW X2. While the Audi and BMW are nice, the options quickly add up, and the CX-5 Signature had everything at a much better price point: nice Nappa leather seats, a lot of soft-touch surfaces and upscale looking interior, nice steering feel, really good around town acceleration/passing power, and great looks too. My wife *loves* the audio system, the backup+360 cameras, the interior, and how it drives overall.
    My only minor complaints about the CX-5 would be that the cameras could use an HD upgrade as they are pretty blurry, the infotainment system is a bit sluggish on startup, and there is a bit of torque-steer when hammering it - we're spoiled by Subaru's symmetrical AWD/no torque steer (even in my modded STI). Other than that, it's a great CUV; I keep hearing about the reliability of Mazdas, which I hope is true as the brand is completely new to us. :)

    • @tntmyth
      @tntmyth Před 4 lety

      Why did you not go with the RDX over the Cx-5? You didn't say in your comment.

    • @Digitalfiendscom
      @Digitalfiendscom Před 4 lety

      @@tntmyth The RDX is a nice vehicle. The cargo area in the RDX seemed nicer than the CX-5, especially the undertray storage (great idea). The interior is nice but a bit "busy" compared to the CX-5 and I didn't like the button-style shifter or touch pad. But the real issue is that there are features that come standard on the CX-5 that the RDX doesn't give you until you step up to A-Spec or higher. For example: rear heated seats and steering wheel, blind-spot monitoring, etc. So it was really comparing a $41K CAD car to a $51-56K CAD; plus Mazda had a manufacturer rebate and 0.99% financing. We had an Acura RSX many years ago and liked Honda/Acura as a brand, but Mazda was just offering better value this time around.

    It’s a very nice car. A couple of odd things to add to the zonk list. With all the fancy safety features, the GTR does not have parking sensors as standard. It is a $475 adder. At just over $35k that is one thing that should be standard. Another zonk is that the GTR does not include the navigation. Yes I know it has CarPlay and Android auto. And you can just use your phone. What if you forget your phone at home or leave it somewhere. The navigation is another $400 adder. And finally, why won’t Mazda give you a way to turn off the radio? Sorry if this sounds like I’m dissing the CX-5 but I really do like it. I was just pointing out some glaring omissions.

      Ya the parking sensors should be standard on ALL trims IMO! I got lucky with my 18. They threw in the nav for me. Really the only workaround I think there is to simulate 'no radio' is turn down the volume and change infotainment display to show as black in Settings. Not great I know...

      Those can be upgraded. I bought some different exhaust tips for the 17 6 I used to have and had my mechanic weld them on. Instantly better looking and barely cost anything. It's funny because now the new 6 comes from the factory with the same size tips I had put on my 17.

    Mazda has a really nice unit here.and it does sell well.but it needs to be a touch bigger.its the smallest in its class. and the cx9 is huge.so mazda lovers are kind of on the fence what to do.So I believe in Europe theres a cx8 that's between needs to come to usa.and Canada.

    cracking review, loved my CX-5 in Machine Grey, but least you get better petrol engines choices (turbo & AWD). You always get more for your money with Mazda like the Bose audio, head-up display, adaptive LED, powered tailgate etc. Beautiful interior, especially with Stone Leather, knee pads & stitch work is impressive. Hopefully the Skyactiv-X engine will be added soon.
