      Hey just wanted suggest the song Bulimiarexia by Eths. I have a feeling that you'll like this one a lot. There's a female vocalist (imo the best female vocalist) who just goes balls to wall. Instrumentally their sound is almost like Nu-Metal mixed with MetalCore mixed with DeathMetal.

      No worries Mona. Get some rest. The song One is Metallica at their best and one of the greatest songs musically and lyrically. I identify with this song more now, especially the lyrics ever since I've become a widower.

      I think the disconnect most veterans feel from society is in this song. There’s the face value meaning of it but I think there’s also a second layer of no one understands or cares about the sacrifice, I’m just another piece of government property.

    That movie playing in the background is called "Johnny Got His Gun." It was written and directed by Dalton Trumbo. It's the best anti-war novel ever written. Look it up it has a power message.
    Joe Bonham, a young American soldier serving in World War I, awakens in a hospital bed after being caught in the blast of an exploding artillery shell. He gradually realizes that he has lost his arms, legs, and all of his face (including his eyes, ears, teeth, and tongue), but that his mind functions perfectly, leaving him a prisoner in his own body. Your emotion is spot on. This song always moves me and hits home. My father was a vietnam vet and while at war he became addicted to heroin trying to numb himself from all the horrible things he was seeing and had to do. He never got over the trauma of that war and never got over his addiction. He eventually withered away to the disease and died on the 4th of july 1989. It was also when Metallica released the "And justice for all" album and this song. I was 15 at the time. His death and this song and album changed my life. They came to my city on the tour that year and were amazing to see. In 89 Metallica were fierce as fuck!

I was at younger than you at this stage of life but I wish I could say I didnt know it was going to happen that morning as I left the house. He tried to hide his addiction and pain. I suppose the ones that love us most will always see our pain.

      Sorry for your troubles. As a recovered addict, addiction is not a disease .. it's a choice. You can choose NOT to use if you so choose. I am free of cigarettes, weed, alcohol and drugs ... I have never felt better nor more positive or motivated and I urge all addicts to join us back in the real world.

      @@Nautilus1972 This statement is assinine. You'll change your mind when you fall off the wagon. I almost married a guy whom found out had a crack addiction in the 90's. So many times I watched him go through withdrawal and fall back into the habit. Anyone who chooses to put themselves in that position is mentally unbalanced. Mental illness is a disease.

      @@Nautilus1972, you don't speak for all of us addicts. I'm a meth addict. I haven't used in 20 years but I'll be a meth addict until the day I die. The urge to use has lessened in frequency over the years but every once in a while, especially during intense emotional stress, it comes back just as strong as it ever was.
      It takes *work* to stay sober. It's more than a choice; it's a lifelong battle that I'll never be free from.

      Wow. My father was a Navy Vietnam Vet. A river rat in the Mekong Delta. Lost many brothers while serving 18 months there. He came back a shattered man. He didn't succumb to addiction. BUT, he was never the same. His mind broken. He was in and out of the Mental Hospital the rest of his adult life. He passed away at the age of 35. I was 9 years old. Most of what he did in the Navy I learned later in life. He never spoke about it when I was a kid. I remember him burning all his medals and uniforms in a large metal trash can. :(

    I think it's cool to see a young woman like yourself, appreciate music based on its actual raw talent and meaning. A lot of people your age, listen to music because of its popularity or feel they have to listen to music based on culture. Music is universal and good music will touch the heart of anyone, who really listens to what is expressed. I unfortunately feel, music today is nothing about expression and more about the mighty dollar, and find myself listening to older music from all genres.

      Oğuz Kaan BOĞA it's against the war and those who called the shots but supports those who fought and they don't want us to forget what so many men went through for us. Disposable heroes is similiar. Metallica is against the draft and hates those who created it but feels sorry and respects and loves the men who who went through that mess.

    • @oguzkaanboga
      @oguzkaanboga Před 6 lety +5

      Feeling sorry for those who dealt with the destruction of war and praising the men who went to the war, aren't exactly the same thing. Most metal bands, like Metallica, talk about people who are forced to be in that position. For instance, Angel of Death by Slayer, talks about the concentration camps in Aushcwitz. Those people had no choice but as far as I know (and I don't live in the US so I might be wrong), people in the US volunteer for war. So their struggles aren't exactly the same thing.

    • @MrStacy1974
      @MrStacy1974 Před 6 lety +2

      Oğuz Kaan BOĞA IN America you have the patriots that would volunteer for military service from a feeling of duty. Some join for the adventures their families talked about when they couldn't speak about what they REALLY did during war. Others join because recruiters promise them a better life and future than the one they're trying desperately to escape, be it poverty ,abuse , lack of opportunity, or all of the above.The forced military service ended in the mid 70's

Song can be construed as anti-war.....bottom line, it's about a book.

    No reason to apologize for crying. Not only is it an awesome song, but it tells the story of a man who has woken up to find he is trapped in an in surmountable darkness, knowing the world he knew is just on the other side but he cannot reach it. It is a song of pain, despair, and a alternating between a desperate yearning and the darkest depths of despair in the soul. "Johnny Got His Gun" is the inspiration. True depth in this song

      y the way Pink, if you haven't already you should really check out Deftones. Awesome, awesome band that's been around for a long time and they have an extensive catalog. Songs I would recommend are My Own Summer, Be Quiet and Drive, Minerva, Digital Bath, Knife Party, Passenger, Hole in the Earth, Minerva, Rosemary, Swerve City, Diamond Eyes. Cool videos for all of those songs too.

      Music videos can be a really powerful art form, but its golden age passed a long time ago. Seeing this video again reminded my how much impact a really great video can make. A lot of people are buzzing now about the new Childish Gambino video for "This Is America," saying it could signal the rebirth of music video as art. I never heard Childish Gambino before, it's not the kind of music I normally listen to, but I saw the video and it blew me away. Powerful stuff.

      Wow man i was watching that video too! It's the first time that i'm impressed with a modern song to a point that i can consider it "Art"
      Sadly, a lot of people will not understand the meaning behind it and will just twerk to it saying "I like it because it has a good beat and i can move my ass to it"
      Like...if you want to do it it's your problem but at least watch the damn video and try to understand what is going on around you in the world that you live

      At the time this video came out you really didnt see much visuals of Metallica. They were very illusive and untouchable. When this came out I knew they were different. I was into rock at the time but not so much Heavy Metal. There was no "Behind the music" or videos of bands behind the scenes at the time so going to concerts was the only way you really saw these bands. It was different.

The only thing he could hear was his thoughts. The only way he could communicate was by tapping morse code with his head.

    This is still one of my favorite videos of all time. For me its a transition from the old Metallica to the new Metallica, which is ok. This video used to get to me because I am retired military so I am familiar with war. But now it has a different meaning. About 11 years ago, my wife got pregnant and had a long pregnancy. She had to have a C section, so the doctors had to give her certain medications for that and her pre eclampsia. I watched as her vitals started to fail, and the doctors had to rush in as she was beginning to flat line. All I heard was snoring from her. When the doctors finished, she recovered and by a couple hours later, she was fine. She asked why I didn't answer her calls for help. She said she was screaming at me... all I heard was snoring, nothing else. She was calling for me, and I wasn't there for her. So yeah, this video has a much different meaning for me now and gets me every time. 11 years later, we are still happily married and our son just turned 11 is doing great as well. Great reaction on the video and I am a new subscriber as well!!!

    the music follows the lyric narrative & emotional realization. Starts soft & dreamlike as "Johnny" is just waking up. Gets a bit more intense as he fully realizes his condition. Builds into a full-on rage as he realizes there is no escape. It really was a stroke of genius.

    Very deep and well thought out review! Metallica early on showed they could do more then fast riffs and whiplash headbanging. They introduced more emotional melodic songs in almost all their albums. Interestingly enough their absolute best work are their 5 first albums when they were drinking heavily. You probably already know that many of the best artworks (music, paintings) were made under the influence of alcohol/drugs. ;-) You are however right, they needed to grow up and felt they had shown they could produce fast tracks so they wanted to try different things.
