I've always loved these guy's dedication to rocking while being voices of peace
I met them like 10 years ago back then they were smaller but the music was better I’d like to meet them again to see the difference
Switchfoot have long struck me as the anti-punk in that punk looks at the world's problems and points a finger outward, while Switchfoot looks at the same problems and calls on us to come together and solve them as one.
Incredible! I love everything you said. I was just having a conversation with my 13 year old daughter about this. It started out with us listening to relient K and then we go to talking about faith. I explained how to me, Jesus was always the epitome of punk rock in that He pushed back against the norm and looked for ways to fix what was wrong. I always also felt that U2 did the same. Jon and Switchfoot fit right into that mold. Glad to know someone feels the same!
By your definition of punk, Christian punk rock would essentially be the antithesis of secular punk in that it focuses on the same sort of introspection that makes Switchfoot's music great, instead of blaming the world for their problems. I still generally agree with your observations, but Christian pop-punk would be an exception.
I agree. It's also interesting that before they were Switchfoot they released a punk album under the band name Etcetera.

The musicians in this band are reaching the critical stage of having written and toured for multiple decades. There are only a few bands out there that have reached this stage and what comes out of their “ears” is not just special: it is transcendent.
There’s an aggressiveness that contrasts perfectly with the moody soundscape throughout this album so far. Also, this has to be my favorite Switchfoot music video ever!

@@_bondedlink_6647 I agree that “aggressive”doesn’t quite fit the style of music. I’m thinking more about the urgency and punch that Jon is singing with. His vocals have the same frenetic energy that makes Oh! Gravity one of my favorite albums.

You can tell they’re tired of playing the same chord structures and melodies that other bands play so they add in little things to spice it up and make it sound weird. I love it!

More than a piece of art, this is a profetic message to our times.
You guys have always been so great, but this... I didn't think anyone could make a song about the current situation of the world that really got to the heart of the problem, but damn you guys did it. Empathy. "What if I were you and you were me?" how would we feel about the other? This doesn't just apply to current times, its the fundamental problem with humanity and why we can't seem to live together in peace.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this. The first three songs were awful in my opinion. I mean I'm glad they just aren't doing the same thing over and over, but I just didn't get into them at all. This should have been the first single for sure.
