    Thank you for a very good instructional video David. Just what I've been looking for, a straight forward, step by step hook up of a midi controller to a sound module. I was fortunate enough to acquire a vintage 1998 LYNC LN4 and an 2000 E-Mu Extreme Lead (L1). Now I need to understand the sound module and how to set up the lead instruments to be controlled. Outstanding tutorial. All the best.

    This helped me get sounds, so many thanks. With nothing better do during these times I broke out my old roland jv1080 and my kurzweil keyboard and was able to connect thru my focusrite 2i2 interface and usb that into garage band. Still some noise but that could be old cables. Now that I've got that worked out, gonna hook up the dr-770 and start with a simple drum beat. then, probably take the bass for a walk, lol. thanks again for the quick fix getting out the sound from my module.

I can change from 1 instrument to another by pressing up/down on my controller. My question is: how can I change the instruments on the module itself? What setting(s) do I need to change in my controller or in my sound module? Thank you.

    Great stuff mate, but the hardest part of this clip nobody can be explained, in none of the tutorials video clips you will see midi settings of of this SL MK2 CONTROLLER, which is very complicated for everyone is owned it. Probable some of the external hardware is automatically recognized it, but some of them not. This is a live controller keyboard , if you can come in the future with a video clip that explained step by step the way to connect it with a external hardware synthesizer ,etc,( I mean the internal settings of the controller ) , probable you will be the only one doing this on CZcams. Thanks

    If you are using a USB midi interface you connect both a midi controllar keyboard and sound module via midi.
    If you sequence your sound module via midi you can then go back and change things, pick up where you left off
    or even later reassign your sound module tracks to another sound module or a VST.

    • @SaintJoJitsu

      @paulmattle6683 Před 3 lety

      Midi thru, will only send what you are doing on the midi keyboard. Pretty much the same thing as the midi out on your keyboard, but it's on the module. You can hook your studio monitors right to the audio outputs of the sound module, or do like he did, so you can record it. But don't hook the outputs to the Instrument input. The module is a line level source. So make sure you are hooking up to the Line inputs

    Is the sound module digital? If so then, does it convert the signal to analog, before sending the analog signal out through the audio out for it to be converted back to digital by the sound card, for processing on the PC then when processed sends the digital signal back to the sound card to be converted back to analog, and out to the amp and speakers? Is this the signal rout, if not could you explain simply the signal rout from source to speakers and where AD, DA conversions take place? The way I see it, it gets converted 3 times which I think is excessive, Something must be wrong with my view, could you help clarify. Many thanks.

    Great review I got a tough question that might be kind of hard to explain I'll do my best hopefully you can help me out...with all that said before you mix down your project and master it if you were to cut off the sound module off would those sounds still be recorded in logic because I have an MV 8800( my sequencer) and have a couple of different sound modules planet phatt and xv-5080 my setup is correct as far as triggering the sounds from my keyboard or the pads on the MV 8800 and you can see visually that sounds has been recorded and you can hear it but if I cut off the sound module while it's playing you can still see the music notes recorded but you wouldn't hear anything ... to permanently lock those sounds in i have to go mixdown mode mix it all down but even still if I was to go back those sounds would not be there in the mix I would have to remember or write down each track but I pulled out of the sound module enter it with all the correct parameters hopefully that made sense

      Then you are going to have two instances (two formats) of the same thing, and they are likely not going to be in sync due to delays. The midi signal that goes through your synth module and later transformed into digital audio signal, passes through more complicated process than the one that goes straight into your DAW via USB

    • @DisInfoWars

      I think you would have to sync your midi module clock to your daw clock and then when you trigger notes on your keyboard it should record both midi and audio. But you wouldn't be able to edit the audio like you can midi and you would need to have quantize in your module set to keep the notes synced with the computer midi clock. If you want perfectly synced sounds it's easier to use a vst imo. But the sound isn't the same as hardware
