I like the visual style, I think it works well. It reminds me of some bad dreams I have had where I just feel really (extra) limited while things beyond my control are happening.

Hey! I'm writer and Loremaster on Divine Frequency. It was a really cool video, and we're thrilled to know that our (lovingly crafted) experience managed to fill your pants a bit :D
I would also like to add that, as for your desire to have cosmic horror atmosphere and the like in a TTRPG, what you really need is players that will be on board with it. The flexibility of a TTRPG system means that players will always try to break it in order to get away with murder (sometimes literally), and that's where goofy stuff happens, particularly when the dice rolls don't turn out as expected. Still, what really counts is that your players are willing to immerse themselves on the setting, and be cognizant of the covenant they enter when you propose such a story. I've been narrating Call of Cthulhu for years now, and that has been the key for very scary, very bleak tales :D

"ASMR low key terrified Wanderbots" is one of my favorites. So soothing and great juxtaposition of calm on the outside and chill deliver...freaking out on the inside (I'm assuming)

If you're interested in psychological/psychodelic horror tabletop RPGs, I would really recommend reading Don't Rest Your Head (and its supplement Don't Lose Your Mind), even if you don't end up using them directly they definitely could serve as inspiration and are entertaining read overall.

@@firelightmlpoc yeah, but that one is pretty obvious and well known. DRYH/DLYM are much more niche, being very much in a "cult classic indie RPG" category.

If you enjoyed this one you might also like Countrycide - It's a very polished self-contained little preview chapter made in advance of a full Doom 2 total conversion that's been in development for a few years.

Really dig the aesthetic of this (definitely too scary for me though lmao). Speaking of spooky and TTRPGs, have you looked into the Old Gods of Appalachia setting much? Might be up your alley.

It is genuinely so interesting watching other videos of yours and then watching this one. Your tone changed so much, you're talking less and just taking in the atmosphere. This uncomfortable type of horror is awful (positively so) and I'm genuinely happy to see you as scared and unwell as I am watching this.

Speaking of cosmic horror in tabletop gaming, recently we finished my first ever Call of Cthulhu campaign, where one of the eldrtich underworld organizations was based on scooby doo of all things, and we still managed to chisel a sensible and serious experience out of it. You definitely could use CoC or PbtA to run a very serious cosmic horror experience, but everyone would have to be on board from the start.

This game feels like it's close to being solid, but falls off with the enemy AI/placements. This needed a designer consultant for some of the gameplay/design. The visuals and psychological aspects are really well done though.
There's really no reason for cheap hits from enemy placements or blatant cheap spawns from triggers, as I'm seeing throughout this video. In case the argument is "Dark Souls," since that's an abused and common argument, little does that argument know that Dark Souls handles it correctly and carefully, not carelessly and without warning.
I'm also taken aback by the enemies moving at the speed of light. The normal enemies move quickly and also zig-zag like an FPS player. That might be fine though. The Colony monster's speed, though, feels not only way off its visual design (just as fast as those mantis creatures?) but broken when combating, especially around vent entrances. In general, it's broken that every single enemy sprints around vent entrances, so the player's only options are shoot and miss, or crawl out of the vent and immediately take a crap ton of damage. I've also noticed a couple moments that didn't seem to have a reward or seemed out of place.
In case the studio is reading this: This game has a ton of potential, and it's certainly not too late to turn it into a modern classic of the genre. This has the potential that I'd like for them to see through, and I provide design feedback because I care and want to see it succeed.

I am just now discovering this game. Looks really awesome. Did this start out as a Mod for Doom and evolved into its own game? Reminds me of Gunmen Chronicles and how that started as a half life mod and evolved into its own game. That is if this started as a Doom Mod. I have found videos from a few years ago talking about this being a Doom Mod.

06:40 Yeah, I've wanted to do the same. Sadly, my group does not at all mesh with it, but I've looked at some options myself. KULT stood out to me as something that nails the atmosphere. Pulp Cthulhu is another one that might work. It incorporates the goofy, which does take away from the general atmosphere, but you can definitely still get spikes of terror.

Vampire might be a good TTRPG for exploring psychological horror.
I mean… any game with a non-adventurous design could be used but this is my recommendation. You can tell games like D&D weren’t designed with psych horror in mind… you obviously could figure out a way to do it if you really wanted but you get my point.
And ofc Call of Cthulhu for cosmic horror/investigation, it doesn’t have to be cosmic horror, it’s a good system for intimate (by “intimate” I mean very grounded and close to the characters ofc) investigation campaigns, you can also use it for other types of horror bc it’s just such a good system.
Best tips for ttrpgs come from writing, unfortunately (or fortunately) there’s not a lot you can learn from games that aren’t story-driven or sandbox RPGs apart from some small things like map design, but yea if you wanna improve your DM skills I personally haven’t found a lot outside of RPG-related, storytelling or story writing discussions. If a game does something really well (like older CoD Zombies’ storytelling techniques, or old-school Doom map resign) you can definitely learn something from that and use it in your campaigns but you’d be looking for exceptions and exceptionals.
The mindsets and ideas for the style of gamification and roleplaying of TTRPGs unfortunately has almost a realm of its own, I literally have never found many of the concepts outside of RPGs and it’d be a genuine challenge to try to fit them elsewhere… I guess the first hobby that comes to mind when we think of “simulation with unlimited creative potential” really is just that unique

It's hard to be immersed when the visuals hurt my eyes. That's the exact opposite of immersion.
Although there are commonly options to turn off those type of post-processing effects (not sure if that's the case in this game). It takes very little development time to give players the option to turn off something with no functional purpose nor dependency, to make the game more accessible to those with sensory issues, and you can still offer the intended experience by default.

Counterpoint to 'art and consumable product don't necessarily align'
Making your art physically difficult or even painful to interact with, purely for the sake of it being hard to interact with, doesn't make it good art.
