  • As the Public Accounts Committee publishes a highly critical report about HS2 saying it's very poor value for money, Manchester's mayor Andy Burnham (Labour) and West Midlands mayor Andy Street (Conservative) propose an alternative railway between Birmingham and Manchester, finally admitting that you don’t need the expense of the HS2 to increase capacity. Stop HS2's Joe Rukin says we're now getting half the railway for twice the cost.
