As scathing report on HS2 is published, metro mayors admit HS2 isn't needed to increase capacity

As the Public Accounts Committee publishes a highly critical report about HS2 saying it's very poor value for money, Manchester's mayor Andy Burnham (Labour) and West Midlands mayor Andy Street (Conservative) propose an alternative railway between Birmingham and Manchester, finally admitting that you don’t need the expense of the HS2 to increase capacity.
