Nah, that's not a fair comparison, man. The government owns that place, but VT is private property. The university can kick out anyone they want, whenever they want. It's their call. These kids are basically protesting in their neighbor's yard, refusing to leave when told, getting arrested, and then acting all surprised like they got arrested just for protesting. That's not what happened here.

I am an alumnus of Virginia Tech and I am shocked at what the current students look like. When I was a student there 30 years ago the student body was made up mostly of clean-cut, solidly upper middle class all-American kids.
@@trevorn9381 That was the style back then. 30 years ago "preppy", big hair and pant suits were the style. People who went to college 70 years ago would have thought you were dressed inappropriately. Now the style is different. Not better, not worse, just different. And, you're not shocked, you're jealous. I started my career when suits were mandatory, now I wear my pajamas to work. I love progress and hate ties.

Any foreign student should have their student visas revoked and escorted out of the USA. In addition, they should be refused admittance to return to the USA to study. That said foreign students have 1st amendment rights in the USA.

After being asked by several "man on the street" type interviews, none could answer what "river" and what "sea" is being referred to in that chant. Most are brainless sheep looking for a cause. Protest should be peaceful - not harmful / offensive with bashing / clashing of other groups and definitely no destruction / defacing of property, disrespect to staff / faculty or other students, and not creating a sense of fear to everyone on campuses attending classes.
Keyword is peaceful - not chaotic, out of control and fearful.
I’ve seen protest for this cause in my neighborhood and city first hand - and they are quite chaotic and give a great sense of fear and unease.
“Give a sense of unease” is not violence. You personally feeling uncomfortable is not danger. These protests have remained peaceful. Loud chanting, angry protestors, are all covered under the first amendment. You can disagree with the protests all you like, but you can’t shut them down because they cause you discomfort.

What I would do is boot The Guardian, HuffPost, Al Jazeera, Salon, Slate, The New Republic, and The Nation from the Apple News app that exists on smartphones and from the MSN news page that opens by default whenever people open tabs on laptops. If these pages don’t allow far-right outlets like The Federalist, Breitbart, Newsmax, Gateway Pundit, or OAN, then they logically shouldn’t allow radical leftist (and tankie-adjacent) outlets either. That doesn’t even necessarily mean banning said news/opinion sites either (although Al Jazeera should be banned if RT is), but it does mean de-boosting them by not allowing them on MSN or Apple News.

Only one was interviewed. Many in other broadcasts have expressed the same sentiment. On many campus Jewish students have been harassed, assaulted and needed security guard escorts to stop protester violence against them.

I am a student at Virginia Tech. The protests were completely peaceful for three days. Families even borough their children and were blowing bubbles. It only got “intense” when the President ordered the mass arrests of his own students

I’m glad that people still have the passion and energy to try and have an impact even in the digital age. The protestors, as they were with Vietnam and Apartheid South Africa, are in the right. I hope they continue to show that, while they might not have institutional power, they still have power nevertheless.

Yes and no! Many places require a permit to ensure safety. Washington DC can have a dozen permitted groups in a single day. Government usually tries to stop and prevent violence, which is not included in the right to assemble.
