Hypothyroidism Diet Tips (FIX Your Thyroid With Food)

  • No matter how you look at it, your diet has the ability to negatively or positively impact thyroid function. Today I want to talk about what type of changes you can make to the foods that you eat to improve your thyroid if you have hypothyroidism. These tips and tricks will help your thyroid function more optimally so that you can not only produce enough thyroid hormone but also convert that thyroid hormone into its most active form.
These tips are primarily targeted at those with hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, low thyroid, and a sluggish thyroid.
Tip 1: Find a whole food-based diet and stick to it for at least 90 days.
It doesn't really matter which diet you use but here are some of my favorites and some that I have personally recommended to thyroid patients in the past: whole30, elimination diet, keto, carnivore, paleo, AIP, and gluten-free/dairy-free/soy-free.
Tip 2: Avoid calorie-restricted diets. It may be tempting to reduce your calories if you are trying to lose weight but it can be damaging to your thyroid if you do. Instead of using sustained and daily calorie restriction, focus more on intermittent and prolonged fasts.
Tip 3. Eat to reduce inflammation. Foods can either be pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory in nature and you should focus on foods that reduce inflammation rather than promote it.
Foods to eat include fruits, vegetables, non-processed healthy oils, fish, nuts, and seeds.
Foods to eliminate include dairy, gluten, processed foods, seed oils, foods that personally trigger you, coffee, soy, and excessive amounts of goitrogens.
Tip 4. Eat to increase certain nutrients. Thyroid patients have a higher demand for certain nutrients than the average population and you should focus on foods that are rich in the following:
    Zinc - oysters, beef
Magnesium - pumpkin seeds and chia seeds
Selenium - brazil nuts and tuna
Iron - red meat or nuts
Tyrosine - animal sources of protein
    Iodine - fish, yogurt
Tip 5. Finally, realize that you may need more than just dietary changes. Things like exercise, the use of supplements, getting enough sleep, and stress management are all important as well.

try pranayama and yoga, not just for energy but for healing your thyroid😊
i do this energizer every day , it works wonderfully for energy and mood /watch?v=pXgRqr1dsOM
and i do ujjayi breathing for healing the thyroid, which is basically ocean breathing , then holding the breath in with chin lock for at least 10 seconds(the longer the better) , then releasing the chin lock and closing the right nostril , exhale through the left
do it for at least 11 minutes a day and even the first day you might feel better already :)

I gave up coffee for 4 months but then found out it is a real super food. The real bean not freeze dried. I then bought a coffee after a grueling train journey. It was like nectar. It helped a lot. I think too much coffee whips the adrenal glands but I have one a day 4 hours away from thyroid meds because it decreases them by 30% if you drink coffee too close. I think it's about moderation in the end.

I was slowly gaining weight, feeling cold and listless, and this had been going on for a while with no diagnosis, when I began an intermittent fasting diet to try and lose weight. Almonds should not be eaten by people that are hypothyroid. They have goitrogens and everybody that is on keto low-carb is eating almond flour for all their baking. I didn't know I had a thyroid condition or thyroid nodules until I went on the carnivore diet and some of my symptoms got worse.
I experienced, fatigue, swollen neck glands, a hoarse voice, bloodshot eyes, infrequent bowel movements which were easy to pass but sometimes didn't come for 8 days, sore throat and pressure in my chest.
I went to the doctor for the swollen glands and it was only then that I had a scan of my thyroid.
I have had repetitive strain injury and fibromyalgia for 40 years
That was the first symptom and since then the others slowly crept in
I am grateful that the carnivore diet actually made me worse because it was only in getting worse that I finally got a diagnosis
I am so grateful to Dr Childs because there is an awful lot of information on the internet about how wonderful the carnivore diet but very little about how harmful it can be for some people
I have been on the carnivore diet for only 10 weeks and it is time now to slowly reintroduce vegetables
I don't understand the really gung-ho people who love getting on the internet and talking about how wonderful it is to eat meat only
    Eating meat only is boring

Dr Childs in your experience, does chronically low b12 affect your ability to convert T4 to T3? I have no terminal ileum & REALLY need b12 injections but in my country they won't give them for levels over 130, in spite of having multiple sx including many neuro sx & other markers such as high folate (which can mask blood count changes you see with b12 deficiency). I don't supplement folic acid, it's from food only. I understand the high folate is from lack of b12 to use it. My TSH & T4 are at excellent levels but my T3 is very low. I'm on no thyroid meds as only T4 meds are an option where I live. Many of my low T3 sx may well be due to low B12, but I think the periorbital oedema & missing ends of my eyebrows are thyroid.

Google videos and articles on "foods to avoid with salicylates sensitivity" as well as salicylates and thyroid function and you'll get a better picture of what i mean..

    • @consciousagent
      @consciousagent Před 5 měsíci

That's because yogurt contains live and active cultures (probiotics) that help you digest the lactose. Just make sure you get unsweetened plain organic yogurt. :) Avoid cheeses, especially aged ones. Aged or smoked meats (deli, smoked fish,.etc) also not good. Avoid foods high in oxalates, salicylates and histamines.

Just keep in mind that not all Hashimoto’s/Hypothyroid patients react or need to avoid the same/exact foods. You need to find the root cause of your disease. I’ve limited my dairy intake significantly but I still consume cheddar/parmesan cheese made with raw milk. I avoid eating other dairy though. I also use Ghee here and there. No issues. I believe it’s the overly processed foods that are problematic. Especially for me. I don’t eat out at restaurants either. I read one woman’s story about how she put her Hashimoto’s in remission and consumes all the dairy she wants. You have to do what is right and best for you. What Dr. Childs provides are just recommendations doesn’t mean you have to do what he says.
