Hey guys! It's been over 2 YEARS?! That I've been living up here at the abandoned mining town of Cerro Gordo. What a journey it's been! This past month or so has been all sorts of progress! From new restoration projects, mine explorations, baby animals, and so much more!
Thank you all so so much for supporting the town over these years!

Let’s go can’t believe it has already been 2.5 years I started watching b4 my son was born he’s 19 months now he watches all of your videos with me I can’t wait to be able to take my family down there much love from Rhode Island 🤘🏻❤️
Save pennies (and nickels, dimes, quarters) that normally get spent. I remember a family effort that we combined all of our change in a Liberty Bell 20 liter glass jug. We turned the bottom up, and rolled the change to produce $1500 to pay for our first big trip out west. It would take 10 times that now, for the same trip, but it can be done. My wife and I are planning on coming out and seeing the place for a few days, probably next year after she's recovered from surgery. It's a part of America history.
Same! I’ve got an 18month old we watch these videos together :D
My dad grew up in Lone Pine, Ca which is super close to Cero Gordo and visited often as a kid. That’s why I enjoy this channel so much, and anticipate new videos, makes me feel just a bit closer to my dad ❤️
That is awesome! I really hope you all make it out here sometime. I appreciate the note and support!
Me too bro!! I’ve been watching before my done was born too lol he’s 18 months old
Film contests, 7-mile race, tours, search and rescue hub, etc. You’re becoming a marketing pro! Exactly what’s needed to pump life into Cerro Gordo. From silver ore to red-headed entrepreneur. Cerro Gordo lives again!
Hello there, if you saw the reply to your comment that was NOT Brent, it was someone pretending to be him. Please don't interact with them, thanks!
He was an adventure holiday entrepreneur before SG. This took it to a next step

Brent, well into my 8th decade, dealing with the physical limitations that accompany longevity, your videos keep a spirit of adventure alive
in me. Many thanks.
It's comments like these when I see the true utility of CZcams.
Keep that spirit of adventure alive my dear friend, don't let the physical limitations lead to psychological limitations, although easier said than done.
I'm sure you've lived an amazing life if you're still watching videos like these!
I found my adventuresome life at the age of 66 (four years ago). I'm living it differently than I would have had I found this place sooner, but I couldn't enjoy it more! (And I, too, get vicarious adventures through Brent!!)
Hey Brent! I'm not sure if you know/noticed, but at 23:14 you can see the Greek letter Omega imprinted on the walls. You are 100% on the right track towards the Omega tunnel, if not already in it so keep going. This is very exciting!
Hah, just commented the same thing
That was ATO carved into the rock, which is a fraternity. Given the fact it was founded in 1865, it would be interesting to know who and when carved that. Doesn’t seem like a frat boy in the 1800s would be in that tunnel though....
Fraternities were very important back then, it's when they were created and established here in the United States.
@@calamityk8729 Interesting. It makes sense now that I look it up. I saw three Greek letters and assumed it meant names of tunnels, either leading to or branching off to. I stand corrected!
I was thinking the exact same thing. It looks short for "Access Tunnel Omega".
Hey Brent! Thank you for having us all up to Metal Detect the town last weekend! I had a lot of fun! It was great to see you and the rest of the Cerro Gordo team up there!
spoilers :P
how did it go? What did everyone find? Any important finds? Were there more people there at the 2nd one than the 1st metal detecting event he had? As you can tell I am very curious about that event. Is he making a specific video about all of that?
Thanks Larry! It's always great to see you. Can't wait to share that video for everyone here soon!
Well, nice knowin' ya Larry...
Jealousy running wild from Western Australia.
Would be a great weekend escape
Congrats Brent, I remember when you first started your venture I remember your lows when you broke down and cried. After watching your videos from the beginning to now, you have inspired me to look forward, I’m a veteran (US Army) dealing with PTSD, I now started my own trucking business and not to focus in the past but look forward towards my future challenges and accepts that there’s always lights at the end of the tunnel.
Keep doing what you’re doing sir. Thank you
Thank you for your service. Your upbeat attitude is inspiring to those of us grieving but for different reasons.
Damn, I remember the day you posted your first video. So insane how far you've came and the random CZcams share I seen 2.5 years ago when you had under 1000 subscribers
I bought 40 acres four years ago at 4,000' on the U.S./CA border in north central WA, near the town of Molson (Molson Beer). Molson was a gold mining and timber town. Hiking around the property, I came across a gold mine shaft. I contacted the previous owners about it, and they had no idea it was there. It is completely hidden in the forest, and I walked by it a half dozen times and never saw it. At the entrance to the mine is the skeletal remains of a deer carcass, and there are bear prints around the entrance as well. I'm a little nervous about going in and being between a bear who wants to get out and the way out.
Seems very reasonable to think a bear lives within. He may not be guarding honey, but its the color honey.
@@thecocktailian2091 I don't think bears care about amber too much. /s
You should set up a wildlife camera at the entrance for a couple of days.
Send a drone in if it’s big enough
Clear the entrance leaving noodles tracks then go back in two or three days if there are tracks go I to the mine then take a gun when you go in
I discovered Brent when he had a couple hundred subs - amazing job getting 1.5 million - you are very entertaining - you might have found your true calling! Keep it up
Thanks Chris! I appreciate you sticking with it!
Being a previous farm owner of alpacas I suggest you put fans on the alpaca if your temperature is 105 degrees. Even though they’re sheared they still get hot. If that’s not possible, hose their chest, legs and under bellies down with water to cool them off being careful not to get coat wet. They are sweet animals.
Brent I thought it would be a compassionate idea to have different colored lights at the 200 foot level in the mineshaft
to honor the 8 to 35 Chinese immigrant miners who died there. All the best to your great spirit of ghost town living, Kelly.
Yes, as well as probably consult a Chinese Taoist on the rites of burning offerings on Hungry Ghost Month (which was just in August!) to pay respects. It should be done with extra precautions for fire safety as well as it involves incense and burning offerings. I believe your viewers will be pleased to see the cultural respect you are giving to the immigrants who sacrificed their lives there.
Young man you are a breath of fresh air and an inspiration for the youth of this country that dreams can become reality. What an example for them to follow. I have followed you now for about two years and I am delighted each time I pick up your site to see how much you have advanced. I am 84 but if I were younger I would want to come and help out. What an adventure for all of your volunteers. Bless you🥰
Thank you Pat. That means a lot to me. It's been quite the adventure for sure!
I want to join the adventure! Where do I sign up?!
The string of lights going down the shaft was a great idea. It's probably a little less spooky when riding down now.
Thank you once again for sharing Cerro Gordo with us.
Definitely less spooky!
This looks like so much fun, I wish that I was still in my early 20's. I use to love exploring abandoned caves but that is all in the past sense I am in my 50's with a degrading body and no hope for recovery. Keep on with your positive attitude and don't ever give up!
Thank you so much! I’ll keep at it
Why do you say there is no hope on your body recovery?
@@vivobenfika1063 it could be his body is physically beaten up to the point of no recovery from work or his health, maybe a health condition that never improves
Just a couple of quick ideas. 1 - you should prepare a History of Cerro Gordo film that can be shown to visitors once the town is open for tourists 2 - use the alpaca wool to make blankets for the bunk house and guest rooms; later you can use it to make souvenir beanie caps for sale.
Brent - I really needed to watch this episode- for therapeutic reasons. I’m in the midst of a horrible period of burnout. Following your adventures and absorbing your energy and minimalist lifestyle bring a sense of calm to me. Thank you for sharing your life with us!
Many in the world at this time are done, in almost total burnout. You are so right about watching the Cerro Gordo videos; they bring me calm also. I also love watching videos on regreening the deserts.
You are amazing Dan
Seconding that my Friend. Times are tough, but we shall prevail!
I'm in Australia feeling burnout too. I feel your frustrations. Sending you good thoughts
same. i cant even force myself to do the most basic tasks at work anymore. i went to school for 8 yrs to be an engineer and i fucking hate it. only 33 yrs old and all i do is fantasize about retiring one day and turning my property into a rescue shelter for pitbulls.
I love how it's slowly coming together well done Brent for saving a part of our history
Thanks! Slowly but surely we will get there!
@@GhostTownLiving ...Hi Brent, I love your channel and I'm an early subscriber.
I'm unable to travel, so your videos help me to explore places like Cerro Gordo vicariously.
I really like all of the animals you have in your town, but there are no dogs!
Would you consider getting a dog or two? There are so many wonderful dogs waiting to be rescued from shelters. Cerro Gordo would be Heaven for dogs.
Anyhow, I look forward to what's to come for you and Cerro Gordo.
Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
All the best!
@@GhostTownLiving i have a question.so heavy d sparks helps you? I'm getting confused as he helps alan in building a hotel..I thought u were both same.but I just noticed look different but red hair
When I worked in a gold mine I was shown , first thing, how to walk out (in case the hoist stopped working or cave in). I was told all mines are required to have a way to walk out. I would fill the skiff and ride it, Indiana Jones style, to the main shaft and dump it. It would then be hoisted to the crusher. Loved turning off my lamp and just standing in the dark listening to the water drip
That sounds pretty cool.
You are inspiring. You’ve created something really special, not only your love for cerro Gordo and preserving the history, but the whole community involved.. the world needs more people like Brent.
🙏🙏 thank you. That means a lot to le
It's amazing what you've accomplished in 2.5 years.
Brent, at exactly 23:14 in this episode, on the wall is written AT and the Omega symbol.
I wonder if that was short hand for Access To Omega? It would be interesting to document the writing in the mines to figure out their exact meanings, you might unlock more hidden areas and treasure?!
I love hearing your happy, positive "HELLO THERE!" please never stop! I hope someday I get to visit and explore this beautiful treasure of a town.
HELLO THERE!
😊
@@GhostTownLiving I raise alpacas in Riverside and was a vet tech if you have any questions. Great tax write off too! Hope you're ok in the Death Valley flooding!
I can't believe it's been that long already. You're doing an amazing job. You're bringing the town back to life. It is definitely not an easy job to take on. With your vision and drive it will be a place to enjoy nature as well as learn about the history of the mines as well as the surrounding areas. 👍👍
iv thought about leaving everything behind many times while i watch these videos to come out there and build something, feel good about myself, feel accomplished and unbound by my current hassled life. I hope things keep going well for you because every step of this journey you’ve been on and showed with us has been AMAZING.
Same here!
@Dave Jacques Come to Florida
Thank you! It's been quite the adventure but sometimes the difficulty makes it that much more rewarding. I appreciate the support and the note.
@@GhostTownLiving don’t let anything stop you, if you’re in need of help plenty of us here, and the family you currently have developed there will come to the rescue
@Dave Jacques you will love AZ compared to Chicago. I know both well. Enjoy!
I love this channel. A little less than 2.5 years ago I had just moved into a new house and lockdown happened (also here in Denmark). I didn't have my family with me yet, and I was alone and there was snow outside, and I found this channel and was thrilled immediately, not just because of the 'adventure' but also because of the 'philosophy' in your videos.
Now I've moved into a new and smaller house recently. And now I'm watching this - and think about the time that has gone by. And how Cerro Gordo has been with me all that time - so to speak.
:)
Wow! Thank you for the note. I remember those early days of lockdown and being up here. The channel helped me deal with that better.
❤️
My boys said dad Brent on and you didn't disappoint my friend .every week were drawn deeper and deeper into cero gordo history
The film festival idea is epic! Especially if you expand to night screenings outside, and even more epic screenings in mines or entrances to mines. I hope I can visit some time.
Brent, you and Cerro Gordo will forever be apart of my wife and I’s memories. You gave us something to look forward to and what became a tradition over the last 2.5 years. Can’t wait to come and visit some day! Keep telling your story!
2.5yrs?!? Time flew by so fast since finding your channel back in our first lock downs. Cerro Gordo alpaca yarn?? Oh my I'll bring my crochet needles sit at the bar & make a beanie when i finally get to visit 😊, so much to see & do up there. Thankyou for sharing
I can't wait to see the American Hotel rise again! It's so incredible that you have the plans and can rebuild it. Can't wait to visit. It's so wild, I was just watching (finally) the Ghost Adventures episode about the 200 level and the miners lost there. And in this video you get more into it, to see what's up.
Never in their wildest dreams would the old miners have thought all this would be happening in their mines AND the fact that the mine they worked in and the town would be getting seen world wide. I just love your town.
If they'd known, they might have hidden a few pairs of Levis down there for Brent! :D
Wow! Seeing Mr. Nadeau's final resting place was unbelievable. To think back to the time when he lived in Cerro Gordo, and was running his business, chasing his hope and dreams. He is part of the history there, and you continue his legacy at Cerro Gordo. The adventure continues. Well done Brent! You are doing amazing work! ❤
Oh my goodness, I only need to see your face and hear your voice to know that I’m in for a treat and you didn’t disappoint. I love everything about what you are doing at Cerro Gordo and the reasons and belief that you have. It’s so good that you get all the help and support to enable you to do what you do. Long may it continue. Take care, be safe. ❤️ Dorset, UK
Thanks Susan! I really appreciate that. It means a lot
@@GhostTownLiving Brent you should know that someone is using your name to con people. Read some of the responses and report them bc they are an imposter. If you're not inviting people to text you on telegram, beware. They joined a week ago under your name and photo and have no subscribers. God bless and keep you safe.
Historic preservation is one of my interests; therefore, I truly enjoy seeing your bringing these old buildings back and giving them new life. I can hardly wait to see the American Hotel finished and up-and-running. Also, I would like to applaud all the volunteers who are contributing their time and talents to making your Ghost Town Dream a reality.
You should look into getting a metal detector or pinpointer for exploring the mines. It would make it easier to find smaller metal artifacts that maybe hidden in the rocks.
Found you at the start during the first episode up the mountain getting stuck in ur truck and what not, back then I had just gotten sober I can't believe it's been so long thank you for courage in starting my channel it's what keeps me sober every day getting comments is the best,
Man keep up the amazing work one day imma visit you!! Love this videos!!
I think your an inspirational and just genuine person Brent. Don’t ever change 🤙
If there were CZcams AWARDS, your videos should get the best one.
You seem so enthusiastic and joyful that you get me smiling too. You're a good person to know.
Your seemingly never ending Energy and enthusiasm for each day is absolutely amazing. I used to be like you when I was a kid into my 20s and for whatever reason when I hit 30 I kind of stuck in a rut. Where I was doing less exploring and less life living. I truly would love to come up there in the fall and help you with whatever I can help you with. Just to see if I can get that kid back. Everything you’re doing is everything I loved to do as a kid. Exploring, building, finding new avenues for my insatiable appetite for adventure. Something I would love to do again, Even if it takes me to the end of my life I will have ended it the way that I started it. So thank you for all you do to teach people to climb the mountain every day, see new things and enjoy life to its fullest before it’s too late.
This journey of yours is going to bring visitors from afar, and my wife and I will be two of those.
Always, ALWAYS great videos. Thank you.
With all the digital data you are collecting from cerro gordo you can build an online museum with a virtual tour, library and all that jazz. Would be cool for folk like me who cant travel such long distances
I just wanted to add this, I can see you are in better health, better spirits, more accepting of the life changes and seasoning quite well now. Great job!!! Looking Good.
We all Love You and yours. ❤️ Peace
If you ever end up running power down into the mine, consider running 4 wire 220. It will give you a lot of flexibility in terms of using equipment, and operating 220 electronics and also 110 electronics.
You mean 3 phase AC? That is common in households in Sweden, but we get 230 and 400 volts.
@@savagesarethebest7251 yes he means 3 phase. In the u.s it’s either 208v or 480v.
Brent you should do multiple commercials per video or as many as you can to make all the money possible for the sake of cg. I fully support you making as much money as possible and will do all I can to help and buy shirts
Brent, you’re awesome. Keep the dream alive because I know for someone with as much compassion as you have, you’ll never fail the dream. Love the videos and I hope to show you more and more support throughout your journey. Can’t wait till the day I can come help you get some work done! Best wishes!
I can’t wait to come see your town. Show my children some history, maybe your town could fill my children with love for all things old, like I have in my heart. The love you show for that town is refreshing, I wish all would respect our ghost towns and earth.
Thank you so much! I do love the town and hope that it leads others to love history and everything old too. It's an important history out here and I do my best to keep it alive!
I can't believe it's been 2 and a half years Brent! This channel definitely is my pandemic ride.
Thank you for your videos, I appreciate your wanting to preserve history. I enjoy history all of the time. You asked if we could tell you our favorite Jimmy Buffet’s song. That would be “Margaritaville”.
Man when worlds collide! It’s awesome the guy at 2:27 is wearing a Freedom Factory hat! Keep it up Brent, love the updates!
Great show, Brent. Your energy and devotion to Cerro Gordo is saving the town. It’s remarkable what you are doing there. Whatever you do, don’t burn out, because without your efforts to make it’s revitalization self sustaining, it will go back to dust. I like your ideas in having a film festival and the crazy bike race to the town. I know our little Kansas town hosts the Dirty Kanza bike race through the Flint Hills and it’s very successful today and it started out as a dream… Keep dreaming.
Imagine how hard it was back in the day doing the original build tells how the old timers had determination and grit they had
economic desperation causes both crime and people to do very hard, risky things to make ends meat. Respect the people that had to do it, but never respect the conditions that forced it.
you all need some greenery out there plants and trees i think that might help during harsh hot weather just set up a massive rain barrel system to catch water for the plants and animals
Congratulations on 2 1/2 years it's hard to believe. I remember binge watching your videos the days after Heavy D and his crew shot his first video there scouting out the for the first concrete poor.
It's amazing the number of volunteers and the amount of work that has been done since then. Looking forward to future videos. One day I hope to make it up there for a visit maybe after this next spinal surgery maybe 7 will be my lucky number.
What a great update! I love the episodes because its not like anything else I watch! Really fascinating content.
The parts of you all squeezing through the tiny gaps in the mines had my anxiety going through the roof, great footage! Can't wait for the next installment 👍
Was wondering where you were and then there you are!!😂 perfect timing!! This video was wonderful!! You touched and updated on everything!!! Thanks Brent !! Your doing fantastic!!!👍👍👍👍

Silly question: Would pumping smoke in the mine reveal entrances above ground that haven't yet been found? Might save a lot of unnecessary and dangerous underground exploring. There must be chemical smoke generators that could be used.
It could also render certain passages impassable without oxygen masks for months if there isnt a draft.. could be dangerous
@@narojdebeste if there is no draft there is probably already no oxygen. Also if there is no draft the smoke wont go there.
Good idea
@@memberHD I tought this was mostly for coal mines, since coal can absorb oxygen. Not ventilated places can have dangerous low levels of oxygen, I dont know how it is for this mine. I hope its well ventilated and he has some gas detectors with him when exploring the mine
@@OldCarsAreFunGenerally speaking, anything decomposing or oxidising will use up oxygen
