    Dynaflex predated the 'oil crisis' of ~'74. The real issue was not with 'thin' vinyl but with records pressed using recycled vinyl (at tmes containing remnants of paper labels). I credit the wretched domestic pressings that started to appear with annoying regularity at that time (excessive surface noise, ticks and pops, warpage) with getting me into UK, German and Japanese pressings in the mid-70s. I never looked back.

    Great video Steve!! For Tom Waits; I argue the best entry point is “Nighthawks at the Diner”. Love the raconteur story telling? Go backwards. Love the weird time signatures and darker themes? Move forward.

      Thanks JD. Tom is def a "go slowly" into his work type of artist.

    The last record i bought before the "vinyl revival" was Lou Reed - Transformer, i bought it from a record store on the Gold Coast, Qld, Australia and its still got the $1 price tag on it.
    Its one of the best sounding records in my collection.

    Love Tom Waits and you’re right, start with his early catalog. His first album is flawless, and then he starts to evolve. It took me awhile to start getting into his 80’s and afterwards work. If you’ve never seen it, look up his performance of “The piano has been drinking” and interview on Martin Mull’s Fernwood 2 night, you will not be disappointed.

    Always enjoy your posts. Great picks all around. Especially love your Tom Waits choices. I remember buying that album after listening to Springsteen’s The Wild the Innocent and the East Street Shuffle.” 50 years later, they’re still amongst my favorite albums of all time. Keep ‘m coming! Thank you.

    Great picks ! People seem to think that Dynaflex is bad because it isn’t 180gram or at least 140. I’ve owned dozens of them and they are some of my best sounding records. 180 gram just means they cost more to me and a selling point to the companies.

    My Transformer is a Can pressing OG and it's survived in great shape and is pretty quiet. It's a dynaflex, sooo light weight compared to the 180gm reissues we get these days. Transformer sounds great and WOTWS sounds really good I use it as a demo track.
    See the Michael Fremer YT video where he plays it on the $375k TT.

    Hey Steve, I guess you heard that Rhino Hi Fidelity released 5,000 more Black Sabbath debut albums Friday. They aren't unnumbered of course. I really haven't seen anybody talking about it yet. I'm glad they did because I missed out on the first Chance To get one. Looks like everything's the same including the $40 price, at least here in the US, but they just aren't numbered copies.

      @stevewestman7774  Před měsícem +1

      Yes. It's my understanding that because of the demand for Sabbath Rhino pressed unnumbered copies. I'm very happy for the folks that missed out. What a great album.

      @@stevewestman7774 Yeah I'm very happy for those same people haha. I'm one of them. l was out of town and and closing our family house and moving while the record got released. I couldn't believe I missed this one but I'm really glad I'll be able to hear it real soon! I ordered my copy as soon as I saw it was available Friday morning. Thanks for the reply and I'll talk with you later...

    In what is probably my last 'thrift' find about two years ago, I picked up a Near Mint copy of Ian Gomm - Gomm With The Wind. As per WIKI, the "single from the album, "Hold On", reached No. 18 in the United States, and No. 44 in Canada in 1979. I was familiar with the song from radio, but upon spinning the record I recall paying attention to the bass playing on that track...thinking: "who is this?" because the playing was amazing. It turns out it was Herbie Flowers who (again according to WIKI), "by the end of the 1970s, Flowers had played bass on an estimated 500 hit recordings"; including Walk on the Wild Side, David Bowie (Space Oddity, Diamond Dogs), Elton John (Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across the Water), and so many other known albums.
