I love watching your channel! It has provided me with so much knowledge and TONS of ideas for reef tanks! I’m not new to keeping fish (I have a 90 gallon freshwater Amazon tank with discus), but saltwater is something I’ve avoided my whole life because I was afraid of the complexity of it all. But researching and watching CZcamsrs like you has my confidence building. So, I bit the bullet and found an amazing start up system for $125 off Facebook! A 65 gallon (36x24x18) display tank and a 30 gallon sump with all the bells and whistles! Can’t wait to get started and eventually work my way up to the 220 gallon tank that’s been sitting in storage for years 😭
That’s the tank that got me into the hobby. Saying that I fully understand. To be honest I am considering restarting a tank. I lost several fish to velvet and though I saved the majority I had to copper the tank as all the rock is silicones to the glass and I couldn’t get the fish out. I’ve just really lost passion since. Much like Ryan and his water box I suppose.

For new tank try out a snowflake eel! Despite being escape artist they make great pets, they’re beautiful and really derpy. What’s not to love?

I think it is beautiful, though I totally understand if you looking to move away from acropora. Speaking of which, yours look great! Honestly most of the reef stores around here took terrible care of their acropora until about year ago. Before then, they were all a sea of brown. I have never kept any myself, but seeing that made me think they must be tougher to keep healthy

My tank has lots of everything, I never get tired of seeing random creatures in there or finding things I didn’t expect to see. Latest finds are a small clam in the middle of a colony of zoas I’ve already had six months and a pineapple sponge.
Just ordered new 120 gallon myself for same reasons. Can't wait to start fresh and not repeat the mistakes I've made over the past 4 years. Can't wait to see what you do!
LPS , gorgonia and zoa look way more beautiful than sps imo.
It’s so funny to be finding this video now. I’ve got a 4ft tank that’s been up for 4 years, acro heavy. I’m currently experiencing. RTN on one of my bigger colonies. This happens once or twice a year and I just don’t get it. I test all my parameters weekly, ICP quarterly, everything else in the tank is absolutely thriving. It just feels like occasionally Poseidon smites one of my colonies for no reason. It’s starting to get really disheartening because I don’t know why and I never know which one is going to go up in smoke. YEARS of TLC down the drain. 😭
Funnily it’s got me thinking about doing the same as you with a move to LPS. However if you’re answering questions next week I’d like to hear your thoughts on acro death.
Nice.. Not many new tank builds on yt are that exiting, but watching Alex's tanks (esp the main) evolve have been a bit more attracting for some reason. I was genuinely exited to hear of an upgrade, cant wait.

Great points; loved the video! This video was a good reminder for me to just enjoy my tank and not stress over chasing perfect acro colors. Your points totally resonate and this type of mentality can increase burnout or make the hobby less enjoyable/more stressful. Change is always good too though; looking forward to your new build! My guess is... you won't be able to stay away from acros for too long 😉
Always a good watch. I fully get the need to change up myself. In 3 years of reef keeping I’ve gone from 30-60-90 gallons. Part of the problem-too many things I want to put in the tank. All mine have been LPS dominant mixed though I love montis, stylos etc. Good luck with the upgrade and will enjoy watching it here
Looking forward to the new journey, and the final video of this tank. It will be most helpful as I am taking my first steps in my reefing journey after a lifetime of keeping cichlids.
Wow! Good on the upgrade. I'm an acroman, and have recently started taking a liking to LPS as well. Not sure I could live w/o acros tho!
I’m currently getting the same feeling with my current tank as I only see the problems. Not the amazing coral I do have… I also have chronic problems with my nitrate levels even though the tank is under stocked. So I do understand it and I can’t wait to follow you on your next steps 😊

This is why I simply stick to acans, lps, mushrooms and zoas. (Hopefully gonias and scolys one day). Feel like the flow and colours are so beautiful and that’s what I like

My interest at the moment is around flow - I have a largely LPS dominated tank with a few SPS and a few softies - and it's something I struggle with - either my trachys and mushroom are being windy swept or my monti and cabbage corals are collecting detritus. I'd like to hear about how you managed to balance flow in your peninsula tank and what changes you think you'll need to make in your upgrade.
Also what equipment do you like so much you plan to carry it over and what equipment won't make the cut in the upgrade either because it's under-powered or you just don't love it. Thanks! :-)

Youve gone 2ft bigger from Ur old tank I've gone 2 ft smaller and have to agree with you sps issue there's always some that don't quite agree with the water like the others.
Oddly enough since downsizing my purple tang hlle has cleared up and his colour has come back which I was not expecting.
I’m more than happy to house the 4 ft tank for you lol
You should be proud of your work.. a lot of dedication and passion went into the tank and it shows. Can i ask why you're only going for a 6 foot? You are obviously very skilled so why not go for a much bigger masterpiece?

Hi, when you say document the new tank I would love to see how you move the new tank from the street to its place of rest. I would love a big tank but moving it has always put me off.

I have 4x Nero 5s running low on my LPS tank but that's only because it's shallow so I can have flow running over the top of the scape - if it was taller I'd have one powerhead on either side

Hello.I have a beginner question,maybe someone can help me.I have two nano 15 gal tanks and i want to upgrade to a 60 gal tank.In one nano i have a pair of ocellaris and in the other i have a pair of saddlebacks.Can i move the pairs to the 60 gal or will they fight?Thank you.
Hey Alex I had a question, so why don’t you run a skimmer on your water box or your evo 13.5 in the past and if I get the evo should I add a skimmer
I don't think it's necessary on such a small tank - they're just noisy and create extra maintenance. Regular water changes are much better for a little tank IMO.
