A show like Queer Eye but for Larpers featuring cheyenne reminding us to take care of our skin and also our mental health
this is literally my dream
What did you learn at school today?
The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, AND, oil is the leading cause of death for makeup.
At least one of those is useful
Am I the only one who replayed this and Momo's videos multiple times?
Me through the video:
Start of video: AAAAHHHH YOU LOOK SO CUTE
End of video: AAAAHHHH SUCH A GOOD VIDEO THANK YOU
Thank you for saying out loud 'please don't ask if you can easily Google that answer'! People that don't Google or read previous comments frustrate me so much.
Film makeup artist here and I'm here to help! (This video is fantastic btw) (also this comment is VERY long I'm sorry)
- you can buy prosaide cream from the same places you would buy regular prosaide and it costs about the same
-alcohol activated paints are God's gift to makeup and everyone should own the Skin Illustrator FX Palette (the example picture she used at time stamp 16:13) it has every color you could ever need if you are just starting with alcohol paints HOWEVER the full sized palettes can get pricey so I recommend getting the "on set" size! It's the same colors but in a smaller size palette and it's about 30-40 US dollars cheaper. FUN FACT: an instructor of mine knows the man who created Skin Illustrator and according to him, the on-set palettes have the same amount of paint for each color as the full size ones so I'd get the smaller size
-prosaide is a fantastic adhesive and I use it quite frequently, BUT an even better adhesive is silicone adhesive. It comes in 2 parts (the glue and a thinner) and it's really easy to use! You dip your brush in one and then the other (it doesn't matter if you dip into glue or thinner first, I personally go thinner first) and then put it on the skin and the back of the prosthetic. Apply pressure for like 20 seconds (you could probably get away with even less time tbh) and it's done! It's great for if you want to apply something very quickly (like when you're on set and your 1st AD doesn't have any concept of how long makeup applications actually take and is sitting there breathing down your neck to hurry up and you really can't because if you want to to look good your artist needs the time to get it there *sips tea*) It's also VERY durable and the same re-glue trick Cheyenne showed also works on silicone glue. DOWN SIDE: it can get pricey but I personally think it's a great investment
-spirit gum and grease paint are the devil and if you own either of these products, throw it in the garbage right now
-Kryolan makes a fantastic setting spray (I use it on the actors at the haunted house i work at) and it comes in a aerosol spray can which is amazing and all setting sprays should be sold like this I'm just saying
-another awesome character paint option is airbrush! Airbrush units (the compressor, the airbrush, and all the air hoses and stuff) are not that expensive if you know where to look. I got mine for a fraction of the retail price on eBay! It's also really easy once you get the hang of it. I use 100% airbrush at my haunted house because it's really fast and it lasts a really long time. You can use a liquid makeup paint like Mehron or Ben Nye and mix it with Ben Nye Final Seal or the Mehron Mixing Liquid and it works great, that's what I use at work. Skin illustrator also sells alcohol paints in bottles for airbrushing and you could go swimming in it when you're done (FUN FACT you can also use them to refill your alcohol palettes! Just fill them about halfway and let the excess moisture evaporate until you have a solid mass of color again) I also really like ProAiir (with 2 i's) they make amazing airbrush paints and they really last on the skin. They are one of the companies and provides the zombie paints for Fear The Walking Dead and if they can last 12 hours on set then they can last in a larp
If you made it this far, you're a champ and I'm so sorry for what I just put you through
This is an INCREDIBLY valuable comment, thank you so much!
I love this video. I've got a LARP event coming up (One week from now) and thank you so much for talking about actually caring for your skin. I play a character with scales so there's lots of makeup on my face and I never take care of my skin. On my pre-event shop for all the things I will buy a face mask - I do not want to be the driest flakiest bean for two weeks, again.
The ending credits slayed me.
Oh gosh, spirit gum and I are mortal enemies since it stole one of my eyebrows once. I am with you there. Thank you though, for talking about Pros-Aide, I kept seeing it referenced in prosthetic instructions but I had no idea how to use it. I think so many people just assume people already know how! I am definitely going to get some now!
When I'm on set I get my face covered in alcohol activated makeup pretty regularly. They use it for making our faces look dirty (they stipple it onto our faces with alcohol based cleaning wipes). It was also what my friend Leanne used for making me Blue for Beast.
(they also get really annoyed with me when I say I don't have a skin care routine they always think I'm lying)
Yea. There are DEFINITELY ways to use alcohol makeup as body paint BuuUUT it's not exactly a "beginner" task, so I'll probably cover it in a separate "Bodypaint for Larp" video. Alcohol makeup is used aaaalll the time for film, and by cosplayers who know better than to use PAX paint 😅
Larp House love your choice of words hahahahahahaha
I'm definitely going to use the tip about exfoliation for my cosplay bodypaint. :)
There I was thinking I knew how to work with prosthetics. This one here got schooled.
When Cheyenne basically saves your life in the makeup world, and helps you turn into the magical being you were meant to be. Bless
11:47 That sass was one of the best things I've heard in a long time.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on make-up. It is a field I know next to zero about and so cool to learn!
next level amazing makeup tutorial. FOR real. Bless @11:47 and bless Wayne Goss.
I've been terrified of spirit gum since childhood. My dad used it to apply fur to his skin for a Halloween costume and he was so vocal about the two day struggle to remove this fur that the horrors of spirit gum would never be forgotten in my family's household.
Tbh I just love putting on larp makeup and normal clothes and just going out and doing normal things. It feels awesome
11:48 Larp House getting real in the middle of a makeup video. I love it!
Love this video! Super informative and fun!! :)
It kinda reminded me of a teacher that always repeat the same thing (in this case oil kills makeup) and you're just there thinking god he always repeat the same thing! But at the end of the year you remember that quote and it help you to do great at your exams! ANYWAYS! You're a great teacher! :D
I’m sharing this with my home LARP!
Tysm for taking the time to put a supply list in your description! Very helpful 💗
Well done, I cannot think of anyone better to explain this. You're the bomb!
*watching this video on couch, chucks spirit gum across the house into the trash can*
YAS
This was so incredible helpful ♡ Thank you!
Thank you so much! This video is so helpful.
Yo, I've watched your videos for a long time and always enjoyed your content. Just want to say, I think this is the most chill and comfortable in your skin I've ever seen you. I hope you're feeling that way, too. Looking forward to more pearls of wisdom!
I can’t stress about how much I love this - it’s fun to watch you apply makeup but you have so much hands-on experience for makeup applications that it’s frankly staggering. All of your tips and tricks are things I’ve never actually heard before(probably because I come from a cosplay background) but this video makes professional level application accessible for people who don’t know how to learn. Thank you so so so much! Definitely subbed now
Also want to add that I totally thought pros aide cream was a completely different product and have been confused over it for like a year, to the point of considering ordering the cream. You saved my life!
This is amazing, thank you for this video!
I’m so glad you uploaded this for my larp elf character I needed advice!
Aaa thank you, my crops have been healed and my face has been watered (followed by exfoliating and moisturizing). :D
Thank you for all your hard work! This was a great video! Super helpful :)
Oh my gosh yyaass I love that you watch Lex yall are both my favorites ❤❤❤ love you
Thank you so much for putting this together! Honestly, I've struggled to find approachable information about putting on daily-life make-up, and this was incredibly helpful.
Great video! Also I love your hairstyle
beautiful sailor moon hair! You always have great info
This is a fantastic video. I'll be using these techniques for my future cosplays! Thank you for making this!
You are absolutely adorable and your humor has me cracking up! Love the tutorials you are giving. Can't wait to try some of this out when I move to Japan.
Thank you for the tips! I'm going to renfaire this weekend as a half-orc and my heart was set on making myself green. I'm going to use these tips!
oh my gosh the henna thing saved me thank you
One thing ive learnt myself though (this isn't coming from a larper, this is coming from a nonprofessional makeup artist): if you're using pressed pigments, don't set your eyeshadow primer! The pigment may not properly stick to your eyelids if you set it. This is only with pressed pigments tho! (excuse some spelling mistakes, my laptops autocorrect is set to Dutch and not English)
I spirit gummed a mask to my face... was not a fun removal process even with the remover. Though I still use it for applying my elf ears because its all I can currently get easily from my weekly lap.
I saw ur tweet of tshirt slogans from this video, I vote for “that may be what you’re going for but let’s not make it an accident” lol
hey there, I am pretty new to your channel and have been binge watching your stuff for the past few days and am hooked on them. And as a German girl i highly appreciate that you found an alternative for us who live here :) because it is often not possible to get a hold of the stuff you can get in the USA or Canada (as you found out)
I used a bunch of alcohol activated makeup this past weekend and one thing that I tried and it worked was using petroleum jelly to get it off. Now it might not work if you need to get it off right after applying it but I didn't want to take if off until a day later and since I covered a large portion of my chest with the makeup I didn't want to spray alcohol on it. So, I smeared petroleum jelly all over waited a few minutes and it all came off fairly easy. I did a second layer just to be sure then jumped into the shower to soap off any greasy residue and I was ready for work the next day lol.
I really enjoy your larp videos, I’ve learned so dang much! I’m not sure if you’ve posted a video like this yet since I haven’t been through all of them yet, but could you do a video on your after larp care and makeup removal? I feel like I always end up with residue when I clean up so I’d love to learn your tips and tricks to cleanup and aftercare. ^_^
so many good quotes in this video
Thank you for the logic about spirit gum! I despise using it when I put my elf ears on, so this information helps me a lot!!!💗💗💗💗👏😍🎊🎉
Edit: Also! I really love this video so much!!!
"using similar materials makes a better bond." Oh my gosh-diddaly! That is the same rule for alchemy!
Great video and great advice! I don't do many fantasy larps but it is all very useful, I'm a bit of a newbie and I needed to understand how to make my make up last for so many hours during events :)
I see that Sephora Italy does have Aqua Seal, if you can make a trip maybe that could be a swift way to get it. (And just sayin', we have quite a few cool international larps during the year, now ;))
and now i finally know how to actually do makeup XD Thank you !! youve saved my arse again, i may actually look good at Cow next time lol
well now i need a how to properly skincare before/after larp video
I was and still am very impressed how spectacularly and professionally you've reached peak personal feminine appearance
and then was like
Nah
r3sp3ct
I always have used spirit gum for my elf ears as I found it to be a stronger hold than liquid latex which just doesn’t work for me... but I found that I’m allergic to this evil stuff and I get a horrible scabby rash on my ears that lasts a whole week. People keep telling me to use prosaide so I think I’ll probably go get some of that instead.
Debbie Larps use whatever works best to keep you healthy! But if allergies are a concern I’d definitely do a small patch test of pros-aide, you’re likely to have the best luck with it 💖
You can also use eyelash glue for a quick fix, or if you forget something else.
I don't do larp yet but I love the concept but your makeup and wig tips are wonderful as I have bad skin and do a lot of cosplay
I don't even larp and I love these videos
I would be interested to see how you would contor a paint on orc brow or other creatures of alternate face shapes
Body paint tutorial is next on my makeup list!
Your hair is adorable and distracted me this whole video
Only good part of spirit gum is the remover. And thats only for the rigid colodian. Bit nicer than ripping it off your skin like ive had friends do.
This was so helpful!!!
One other question, what sort of coloured contact lenses do you suggest? And do you have any advice for someone who is using them?
I have tried MANY different kinds of contact lenses and I'm always happiest with ordering from Uniqso. Make sure your contacts are good and wet before you put then in your eye- having a lot of solution on them can make them a LOT easier to put in.
how do you do the little hearts and stars often seen on your cheek in videos? it is absolutely adorable and looks so neat
They're eyeliner stamps from the drug store!!!
Oh hey! My lipstick makes an appearance, lol.
Just wondering, would you be taking off this makeup at the end of the day or do you keep most of it on if it's a multi-day event? I'm guessing the prosthetics and anything glued down with pro-aide could just be left on for a couple of days since you could probably clean up around it, but how about the alcohol based paint and stuff?
How would you go about doing a quick old age look?
Have you ever done colored eyelashes/eyebrows for a larp? I've seen tutorials for regular costumes or fx makeups but they all seem prone to meltage and flaking for larping.
I use the alcohol activated makeup on my brows all the time- it comes in every color you can think of so I never have a problem! As for eyelashes, I usually put on an eyelash primer (Urban Decay's is great) then put some of those Makeup Forever Aquaseal drops in an eyeshadow or a liquid eyeliner and apply that with a clean mascara brush :)
Curious, would you apply a face prosthetic before or after your base layer? I have a chin tusk piece for an orc I'm making and I'm not sure what to add it. Also playing as an albino orc with small green shading. Send help! Lol
Your hair... it's so...
BLONDE...
Noob question, here... can you store the thickened Pros Aide like you would the regular stuff, just in a separate sealed container? Because I like to have what I need on hand when I need it... but I suck at making lists of all of the various and sundry things which that might be, and at waiting around for things to thicken on their own. lol
Thank you!! Do you have any strong feelings on when sunscreen should happen as part of the make up process? Or does it vary based on the type of sunscreen?
ladymcquillion there are primers that contain sunscreen! Some of them are even long-wear or waterproof. You can mix it with a little of the sealing spray and use those.
I was wondering what you would say is the best larp to start of with for your very first time
Spirit gum SUCKS. Takes forever to get off, indeed. Tried to stick miniature gears to my face with it, but it wouldn’t stick right. Then it gets in my hair and sticks to EVERYTHING. Then I used lash glue to put on the gears-big mistake. My skin literally blistered!! How!!!
I have to attach elf ears for ren fest in a few months, and spirit gum is all I own...time to do some shopping for Pros-aide.
So for someone that doesn't do the full face of makeup, and would say just want to put on a face of war paint, would just setting a basic foundation and then putting on the war paint help keep it? My main concern as being a guy with a good amount of facial hair, this being problematic. My character in the LARP I play, his house he works with has Norse backgrounds and warpaint could be a neat addition to the character. Also note, we LARP in Florida and well... sweat happens a lot. Thanks for the video, I am just getting started with the idea of using prosthetic and makeup.
We actually have a whole video on just war paint! "Warpaint 101" :)
feels like the right place to ask, does anybody know a good dirty green long lasting bodypaint? (Preferably something that's easily acquirable in Europe)
Very beginner question: are sealing spray and setting spray different?
Nope! They refer to the same type of product :)
Also though... what are on your eyelashes at the beginning of the video? Are they falsies and mascara? What kinds? Thank you!
The're dollar store falsies that I cut in half to be whispy! Haha
My biggest problem with eye stuff, is that I can't see at ALL without my glasses, so seeing what I'm doing is impossible. My roommate told me, the first time she saw me with eye shadow, was that I looked like an 80s hooker. I haven't worn makeup since...
I want to go to larp events SOOOOOOOO BAD, but not only am i a minor, i have type 1 diabetes, so its difficult
OK, I think this is a question that I haven't seen answered - if oil is the enemy of makeup, how do you handle my main LARP necessity - SUNSCREEN. I have to reapply every couple of hours (my avatar is not me, my avatar is a doll and my skin is very pale and turns into a lobster with about half an hour of sun exposure without sunscreen).
In the past I have simply stuck to elf ears and small horns in my hair because I could then still reapply my "magic sun potion" every two hours. How do you handle makeup given that sunburn is a real and serious thing? Thanks!
There are many makeups and primers with sunscreen in them, but if you are going to be out in the sun an awful lot- myself and many other larpers get in-character sun umbrellas or hats!
That is awesome advice! I am having a "why didn't I think of that" moment. I am planning to head back to a local LARP after several years away, and I'll figure out where my character picked up a parasol (she's got antlers, so a hat would be harder). Thanks for taking the time to reply, I do appreciate it.
i know way more about alchemy then makeup strangely.
Hey
I don't know if someone already gave you the tip but you can get aqua seal here in Germany.
Maske Berlin has lots of Make up for ever stuff and other stuff that we use for Larp. Hope you can find everything you need.
www.maskeberlin.de/make-up-for-ever-aqua-seal-waterproof-liquid-converter-12ml
They also have a store in Berlin.
Cheers
Rissa
omg I will check this place out asap!
Larp House if you go there I wouldn’t complain if you take hostages again 😉 Since I live in cologne I only order online. Driving to Berlin just for make up would be a bit expensive. 😅
@@nolirislunacy3426 Okay I accidentally lied I totally have been here before, it's where I got the eyebrow pallet!
Where do you manly larp
Oh my god you are so good. That hair. That nazi punching joke. This video. ughhhhhhhh
i love your content and say what you like there's freedom of speech, but dude, punching someone when it's not out of self-defence, no matter how big of a shit hole they may be, is never okay.
