- 2007 Lexus LS 460 Air Suspension Conversion video on a 2007 LS 460 L. I chose to do a Strutmasters conversion kit for my air suspension delete, and I'm glad to say it maintains that quality Lexus ride without error codes. See my Lexus LS Playlist here: • 1994 Lexus LS400...The...
The installation came out great. There are no strange noises or error codes after doing the Strutmasters conversion kit install. I did install a few other parts on my 2007 Lexus LS 460 L such as; a new radiator, 2 control arms, and a full Powerstop brake kit. I had all of my work done at Hyperformance Garage run by Dave Garcia, info below.

2007 Lexus LS 460 True Repair Cost with 200k Miles
czcams.com/video/zPukuu-e4bA/video.html
This video will detail all the costs, including the costs of swapping these struts.
Oooooh, I have been looking forward to this....
What did u do about the air compressor? How did u disable it. I did the conversation today and have no light on the dash but the compressor kicks on
Can regular ls460 struts be mounted on to airbag suspension ls460s?
Man finding a good honest mechanic that actually knows what they are doing
It's a blessing for sure I'm very fortunate to have met Dave
I actually had this done based on information from this video. Parts $1100 & my mechanic charged me about $600 to complete the project. Thx
It feels so good to have a reliable mechanic. Even if he's on the expensive side, the peace of mind is such a good feeling
Dave is actually super reasonable in price considering he is a Master Tech for multiple German brands, he charges $100 an hour not bad at all and because he knows what he's doing, he gets jobs done so fast
Where is be located ?
This is so satisfying to watch General Garcia is fearless taking these bad boys out. He could switch that flashlight to a cigar.
Dave is a boss for sure so honored I got to meet him
Good content and shout out to Dave!! I'm in the garage working on my 96 LS 400 as we speak, new brakes, new fuel pump. Waiting on my struts to arrive while the back seats are out.
Dave is amazing! And that's awesome glad to see you are taking care of that gem and continue to maintain it. Enjoy that LS
How can we contact Dave? I am “suspensionfully” suffering with my 2008 LS air struts. Need to make an appointment with Dave and drive from S Carolina to be in good hands
Can we have Dave’s Mechanic shop number?
Kevin, your video is 1 yr old, and it is still "the best". Kudos to your mechanic!
Kevin u really understand your fans cuz we been waiting for this vid. Awesome rebuild.
Glad I could deliver my friend!
Thank you for putting this video together. This is the only video in the world that clearly covers the step-by-step process of the Lexus ls460 strutmaster conversion. I watched this twice and now my coil over conversion anxiety is gone . I am planning to get this major project done next year. No rush since my daily driver Camry covers most of my commutes . I drive my Lexus once or twice a week.
And thanks for providing links for the brakes, radiator and the control arms. I definitely need some rear brakes and a new radiator soon.
Glad you found it useful my friend!
Awesome video...I'm impressed no short cuts, professional job done! Only wish I could find a mechanic like Dave!
Really enjoyed this update, epic job that replacing that suspension. Congrats to your mechanic did a incredible job. I spent 25 years in Finance these guys got way more smarts than me. Well done Kevin love that series LS. Cheers Brenton 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Hey thank you so much sir, yea Dave really made this look easy even though It's really a tough process haha. He's very talented. Thanks for always supporting me
Thank you for sharing so much insightful details about ls460.
Awesome to see a video from in the neighborhood
The 460 is coming along nice. Can't wait to see the final product..
Thank you my friend! Wheels are coming soon
Thanks for putting Dave's contact info in the description!
Excellent video Kevin! This is brilliant seeing how much work goes on to replace the suspensions. Crazy to see what the engineer has to do the rear ones removing the car seats!!
Thank you! And yea def a lot of work involved just the suspension install was 9.5 hours
@@MeynMotorGroup Crazy to think this amount of time was needed. Well worth the job and your technician is very skilled! You were a great helper too.
I'm so glad I met Dave he made all these jobs look easy
@@MeynMotorGroup he is brilliant 👏👌😀
I loved when u took out the rear shock at 20:53 u were really helping Dave out bro 😎
Haha 😄 it's the least I could do. Dave is truly amazing
Thank you so much for this man. I wish this guy was in Atlanta GA.
Thanks Kevin I can only hope I can find a guy like this if I need to do this in the future.. hope you love the ride
Yea I am so lucky I met Dave, not just because he's an incredible tech but also because he's a great human being
@@MeynMotorGroup and good people are rare so good for you finding an honest good person
You're def right about that!
That’s another great video- nice one Kevin
Thanks 👍
thank you man for shaering this
Headlight restoration video is a mustttt !!!
For sure, and doing full paint correction myself and interior detail
Appreciate that a lot I’d problem with the speaker in the rear pillar and didn’t know how to remove the parts after watching your video I got to do it.
I did the same Kevin. Took the seats right out for the rears. It would have been a pain to work around them. The KYB's you got are exactly what came out of my non-air ride LS. Great Video Kevin. If I had this prior to getting into mine, I would have had an easier time for sure. This video will help people.
Yea Dave is def right taking everything out does make access easy and worry free thanks again for watching my friend!
Don't All the LS460's have air suspension?
@@craigmoir2569 in the UK yes in the States no.
@@craigmoir2569 I believe it’s just the AWD 460s
Always great vids man!
Thank you!
Excellent video!!!!! I really like how you broke everything down in segments. For us LS460 folks, this video is like the forums have come to life!

Glad you enjoyed the video my friend!
Really good video old chap. Liking the Korg M1 backing music too.
Haha thank you my friend I really appreciate it
True professional @ work great job. Great choice on going with kyb
Dave is def incredible I'm honored I got to meet him
I just completed the front half of this conversion. Prob took me 8 hours, primarily because I stripped one of the 2 upper control arm castle nuts. The old "heat up the nut" trick did not work, and I ended up removing the upper left control arm body mount to get enough clearance for the new strut fork. I'm not sure I'd recommend this workaround.
I would judge this process to be a difficult but useful learning experience. I wish I could skip the learning process of the first time and just go right to the 2nd time, where I could do the front end in 2 hrs. Heh.
I appreciate your video, as it inspired me to go ahead and give it a try myself. I considered driving the car from MN to NC to have Dave do it, but that would've taken a bit more than 8 hrs. My local mech quoted 10 hrs just for the front, which I took as a "I don't want to do this work" sort of statement. Meh.
I prob spent $250 on a corded impact wrench, better sockets, ratchets, and jack than I already had, and other various tools. Doing this work with a lift would be far more enjoyable.
I am going to leave the rear half of the car with the air susp for awhile. I am seeing no issues with running it half and half, and my acute issue was with the front, so I will likely wait until I see the saggy butt issue to proceed with that half.
Thanks again for your inspiration. My car is a 2007 LS460L (RWD), and I absolutely love it. I echo all the praise you give the LS460. I have 135k on mine, and I want another 100k at least out of it.
Nice one Kevin and what an absolute palava having to take the friggin rear seats out!
Thanks! And yea for someone like me or someone that's not experienced, taking out those rear seats would have taken eons. But since Dave is a Master Tech, he breezed right through that process and made it look easy lol. But I know it's def not easy and Dave put it back together real quick too, I have so much respect for him
@@MeynMotorGroup If you have the knowledge and experience you can make anything look easy, and what a lot of people don't understand is your not paying for the hour or three that it takes for the job it's the years and years of experience and training that the tech goes through to make it look easy for said job to be done!
Exactly
Great video, very informative. Just had my struts replaced on my 2011LS 460.
Thank you my friend!
With the strutmaster kit?
Wow!! Need to get my front and rear done on my 08 460 L
Definitely earned a like & subscribe💪🏾 keep going!
Thanks for making these vids I was about to buy the same car but now I changed my mind. Still going with a lexus just not this model.
Nice, I live in North Carolina plan on buying same car, now I know who to take it too. Don't mind paying top $$ for a master tech . Great video bro
An interesting clip with good and useful information. Keep it up
Glad it helped!
@@MeynMotorGroup 🌹🌹
Man thank you for this video I have an ls 460 and it needs air suspension replacement. I have to do the exact same job you just did to your car
Glad it helped!
Hey man ? How did he get the old actuator onto the new strut
@@dretech271 It just sits under that metal helmet. It doesn't connect to the new strutmasters strut in the way it connected to the old air strut. I don't know if it matters whether it sits relatively upright, or upside down or whatever. I left it plugged in, BTW. Haven't seen any issues. I am a bit worried what will happen if I try to hit the comfort/sport mode button, so I won't do that. ;-)
Good assist at 22:34 bro!! Looks good!!! I'd like to get my hands on one in the near future!!
Haha 😄 it's all I'm capable of Dave is a boss made this whole process look easy
i had to remove my backseats to fix a speaker last week and lost a gallon of sweat in the process , hug your trusty mechanic they diserve it
Yea man so annoying whenever seats have to come out for a job but it's crazy, Dave accomplished this job with the most ease but for him he's used to dismantling and reassembling vehicles like the S class so this was easy for him. I really respect Dave
@@MeynMotorGroup and you should respect him , a good mechanic has to have loads of pacience and really love what they do ,specially when dealing with cars as complex as the LS
This helps explains why it's so expensive to replace the air ride shocks, its very labor intensive.
Yea a lot of Labor, Dave just made it look easy because he's a master
Excellent video and absolute proof of 2 things. A great honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold, and he probably paid his bill by stuff that he did not break. Would like to know how many hours the mechanic had in the job and the parts total. Makes me want to go find an old 460. All should note, a master technician makes this look a lot easier than it would be for a novice, or even mechanically handy guy.
You're so right, Dave def made this look way easier but I know this was a tough job but to a master I suppose this is nothing 😅
Yea im really fortunate to have met Dave and he's also an amazing human being. The job took 9.5 hour to complete will make a cost break down vid soon
@@MeynMotorGroup Look forward to that cost break down video bro 👍🏾👍🏾
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
This video is helpful bro ima gonna do the same thing but on my es 350
Hi Kevin. You don't know how much I appreciate this video.
Alot of guys on the Lexus forums were saying you need to cut power to the compressor. I was wondering if that's an requirement. Because some other posts were saying it will throw codes of you do.
Yea I agree, I prefer that “boat” feeling the technician was saying would he gone after the new struts were installed
I watched the video all the way through and dang, I’m going a completely different route with my 2007 LS460L. I have spent probably $8,000 so far at the dealer service department. I’m involved on haggling and screening what they do and making sure I get the “online” parts price, so I think I’ve gotten a fair deal. So far I’ve paid out of pocket for a new dash, 4 door panels, a new trunk lid button, valve cover gaskets, new center console lid, one oxygen sensor, front pads and rotors. I just dropped it off today for a new radiator and upper and lower hoses, a transmission fluid and filter change as well as a rear differential fluid change. I am also going to have them replace the front air struts. 😅 this will probably cross the $4,000 mark. I also asked them to inspect the bushings front and rear as well as diagnose why the rear seat ventilation isn’t blowing. That could add a few more thousand. BUT hopefully this will be it for the repairs for a while $8,500 for the car, $8,000 in repairs so far, another $4,000 for sure, and maybe another $3,000. So about $23,500 for a 1 owner LS460L that’s fully sorted with now 127,000 miles. My 2017 LS460 cost me $83,000 so if I can get some good miles out of this 2007 I’ll be pretty happy, same experience as the 2017 just $60,000 cheaper 🤣
Actually $23k isn't that terrible for an L model with that many miles in this used car market. Yea it's still a little over but since you're having the Lexus dealer take care of it, you can at least be rest assured you have all OEM parts being put on your car. I think you should enjoy it man. From my calculations, with all my repairs I'm all in this LS for about $15k, will probably drop another $5k for mods and appearance but nothing else that's mechanical. For around $20k these cars are amazing
Still a great great video. Myself I would want a higher level for the rear of vehicle. Load car with vehicle sitting close to level is fine. Again, great great video.
All LS 460 owners need to do this upgrade. Trash the air ride. You will recoup your money in higher resale value…save your records.
greattttt superb job
Awesome!
Thanks!
@@MeynMotorGroup Sure, you're welcome, keep the awesome content coming!
Meyle are very well known at least in Europe. Top quality.
It is challenging to operate in the rear because I had to do this to replace the sub woofer. Is there an experienced mechanic in the DFW area he could recommend with such expertise, that would be awesome. Great job on the video. This influenced me to subscribe to your channel.
The front is like a piece of cake but the rear looks like a little bit harder since you have to remove all those seats and wiring to get access to the strut mount
Hey Kevin, that was Top-Notch vlog on that conversion kit. I was totally unaware of the ordeal necessary to gain access to those REAR air struts. Now it is clearly obvious why the repair BILL at a Lexus dealer for this project approaches FIVE grand. Even then there's a concern that the Lexus service tech applies the same level of care and attention to detail that Dave exhibited on your vehicle. 👌 BTW - In case you're going to RESTORE those clouded headlight units. WatchJRGo tested every one of those kits on a vlog and found the TurtleWax headlight restore product to be the best performer hand's down. I hope this helps Yo ! 💥👌💥
Thank you my friend and yea it is a pretty big process for the average person but for Dave it was a piece of cake since he is a master tech he makes this stiff look easy.
Actually the dealer wanted $15 grand lol all in with parts and labor with Dave was $3600 so Almost a fifth of the price of the dealer crazy.
I'm going to check out that vid! I bought paint compound and polish I heard you can use it on the headlights and I'll try it but I don't think the results will be as good as the turtle wax kit so I may still try that thanks!
@@MeynMotorGroup Yup bro that’s the stealership for u no surprise been their 😂🤣
I am extremely thankful for the video. Subbed you for making such an effort.
One question though, do all long-wheelbase models have air and short-wheelbase standard suspension? looking at your videos I am considering buying one. I have an option to buy an LS 600h.
This was an excellent video. I have an Ls460 I am completely restoring and this was helpful. Can you tell how much this cost for labor?
I just had Strutmasters kit installed on my 2007 LS460 L. The car rides excellent no problems at all. I don't have any lights on my dash either. I hear a clucking sound in the rear which was there before installing the coilovers kit. I don't know the source of the noise. Overall I'm happy with the conversion from air suspension to coilovers.
Yup exactly my experience the kit itself is great pretty much rides like my old stock 08 LS without air.
But I also have a clunking noise in the rear that is the next item I'm having diagnosed
Did you find out what that clunk was?
Me? Not yet about to find out tomorrow
My mechanic says its bushings in some rear crossover. Idk. Mine does it when shifting in gears. Gear shifts. It also does it at stops.
Very good video of instillation, what was the final cost? What is the milage on your car. Thanks
Great video 👍🏽 That’s a lot of work. Dealership would definitely charge you $15k to get it done.
Appreciate it my friend!
From one kevin to another thanks I'm looking at Purchasing A 07-09 Ls 460 I want to Long wheel base but I think the swb without air suspension would be Fine
First video I have seen from your channel, nice work! Congrats on the swap! Based on your ride quality, how does it compare to OEM? Any thoughts on the new coil overs for basic daily driving vs the OEM?
Hey thank you my friend. And I did a review talking about all the parts and how this suspension feels so I think that can help you out. But for the most part, this is similar but def stiffer and a little more jittery so I feel the small bumps more with this suspension. Does handle a little better I've noticed
@@MeynMotorGroup Good to know! Got my suspension, laid it out in front of the car, compressor kicked back on and the car auto-leveled. Jaguar's right? Planning on installing once the next suspension issue arises!
Did your mechanic mention why this coil over swap wont work with the long base models?
I just had aftermarket air installed on my 460 and am throwing all kinds of codes, the sensor is plugged in but ziptied near where it was, also i went with aftermarket air with a 3h managment
Excellent job Kevin. I am however confused with the name strutmaster and kyb. Are they kyb? Or strutmaster?
How much did everything cost man I'm tryna get this done on my ls and can't wait to see whats in store for this ls!
I just bought a 2008 LS460L ultra luxury. The guy I got it from put in some lowering coil overs. I don't like it low and rough, but I can't afford to put air ride back on. I've heard some say StrutMasters are rebranded FCS or are not good and/or too rough also..? Are these good and the only options? My car barely has a finger or 2 gap!!
Let’s gooo! Only issue if I get an LS 460 is I don’t like how dated the head n tail lights look 😭
Well I'm going to buff out headlights that should look better
@@MeynMotorGroup true. Btw, so yk what inch wheels comes on the IS 350? and can u get bigger ones for them? Thank u
Like 18s or 19s for the F sport
@@MeynMotorGroup oh that makes sense. I know u don’t know everything but I’m sure you know a lot more than me that’s why I ask you😂, but you think 20s or 21 would fit?
I wouldn't go past 20 tbh I really think 19 is perfect for that car
What did you do with the airline fitting that were plugging into the air strut? Did you just cap it off?
how did you order kyb conversion kit from strutmasters? I don't see any options that you can choose the manufacture, and are the kyb struts and coild springs made in japan?
and does the new suspension go up an down for higher speed ramps
For the life of me i can’t figure it out, to remove the air line if that clip doesnt work, do you just take some pliers and lightly press/ pinch the two holes where it clips into and pull the line?
How have the aftermarket control arms held up? There’s a fierce debate about the quality of OEM vs Aftermarket arms in the Lexus Community.
Is it not cheaper to replace air ride suspension?
You should review a used ILX like u did for the tlx and rlx😄
Already did an ILX but no one saw it
@@MeynMotorGroup where’s the video at🤣
Just search the channel I did over 400 videos on this channel

Hey, I know this vid was a couple of months ago but hopefully you see this or someone in the comments hopefully knows.
Do you have a link to those KYB struts? I ask because in the video you mentioned that those were made for that exact model and I also have a 07 LS46.
Thanks
Where did you order your conversion shocks
Hey guy I really enjoy your blog, can you tell me what it might cost to have the control arms job done at a dealership?
Back when I investigated the control arm job, I think it was $3000+. I bought my 2007 LS460L from a used car dealer who had it done before I'd buy the car (the control arms were definitely needing the fix), so I did not see the bill.
There's an update front lower arm for the 2017 that fits all 07-17
Costs a lot of money for OEM control arms tho
I have 2016 Lexus LS 600H L. Can you put the links where you bought the parts for a car and any suggestion for LS 600H L ? Thank you
Kevin is this a job I can accomplish off of floor jacks and stands? I don’t have a lift.
whole point of getting the lexy is for the smooth ride (air suspension).......
would you have the link to where i can buy the suspension kit by any chance?
How long did it take from start to finish
Man lookin at this now I’d wish I knew before I purchased arnotts air struts for my front Ls460L. I think I need to do my rear where is your guy shop located I am in Philly
Another great video man I may buy another LS 460 2013 this time with standard basic everything no air ride crap … how much was the total bill? Yeah I’m retired and on serious budget so I gotta ask ? Smile
I'm actually working on the cost vid right now! But total bill for me just labor was about $2k and I spent $1800 in parts so $3800 as of right now but we need to replace one little control arm in the rear which was an $84 part and labor might be an extra 1-2 hours.
Total might be like $4k and just air suspension delete was 9.5 hours so $950 in labor for that and the strut master kit was $1170 with tax and shipping so that whole ordeal was a little over $2k on it's own
Thanks for the reply look forward to cost price video
Why did u remove the air suspension??
I would replace the headlights, fix the body work and do a 3 step paint correction before even considering a set of wheels.
I gotta roll on a set of dubs if nothing else
@@MeynMotorGroup
Oh man you’re doing it all wrong brother. How you going to roll dubs with dull and scratched paint. A clean and sorted car is way more respected than a set of rims.
Each his own I guess…
Good job getting the suspension taken care of!
I was being sarcastic
Where you get your spring from ?
Hypothetically if you wanted to go a little sportier than stock you could put lowering springs on the strutmaster assembly right?
I dont know actually
I like to see the Equus vs the LS 460 in reliability with 200 thousand miles on both and repair cost total? I seen the Genesis 5.0 with over 180 thousand miles on it with only alternator going out? Also the driver was not driving like grandma he raced a little as well did test runs on the track
How much did that job cost total? Suspension wise with struts all 4
Its hard to find a LS 460 with the control arms replaced..With all the praise this awesome car receives THIS is the one expense/repair that has kept me from buying one. Was the control arm issue resolved with the 2012 model or with the 2013 and newer models?
Can you explain about the control arm issue? I just bought a 07 LS 460 with 75 k miles. 1 owner .
do you have a link to get those KYB struts, thanks
do you have any reference on repair shop in San Jose, CA where I can replace my 07' Lexus LS 40L air suspension?
How much does the labor run?
What did it cost?
